Is it possible for one to "fall away" or lose salvation once saved, and what does "falling away"?

I have read your post and I am glad that you are walking in the Spirit.

Well, I am trying, sometimes by learning not to try so hard at it...

But I am not sure it is good for a person to think that he himself is saved "no matter what", at least it is not in my mind. You can receive assurance from the Spirit that you are truly born again and will be saved if you continue to walk in faith. But maybe one day we lose our faith to walk in the Spirit. Who knows? Only God knows.

Well, I feel like I am "on way somewhere" right now, with like where God is taking me, ect, and the only reason I say I am sure is because I am being called, and feel the calling right now, and I'v been trying to follow it and walk in it and it's ways and "answer" it lately, and I feel like I am being changed or am one way to or toward somewhere, a certain goal or aim or something...

But, I suppose I could fall away somehow, IDK...? It's just that I can't ever see myself consciously choosing that or being that way now is all, or doing what I think it would take for me to lose that ever now, so as far as eternity is concerned, well...?

I believe that is and has already been settled, and I believe that by faith...

God Bless!

It is talking about believers who received the gift of the Spirit has turned away from the grace that God gave us, and there is no more salvation for these people.

How does that happen...?

God Bless!

I suggest you closely read John 17:6-12. Judas was elected by the Father, as Judas along with his cohorts were given to Jesus by the Father. I suppose you know what election entails? It never refers to unbelievers - only the elect. Judas was of the elect but by choosing to betray Christ, he fell away.
Not really. The scripture doesn't mean that Judas was elected and no where is it mentioned. Jesus simply stated that those His Father gave to Him, He kept and lost none.
The Word 'gave' is didomi in Greek which means to give one to someone to follow him as a leader/or simply permit. This doesn't mean Judas was elected as you put it.

In John 13, we see two parallels; Peter vs Judas. When our Lord decides to wash His disciples feet, Peter desires that to have his hands, head washed too. Jesus responds "you are clean through the Word I have already spoken" implying that Peter was clean at heart(salvation) and only needed to have his feet washed. Feet denote walking in this salvation.

However, in vs 10;
Jesus said to him(Peter), “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”
‭‭John‬ ‭13:10-11‬ ‭
Judas was not clean(Katharos in Greek which means pure, innocent, guiltless, blameless). He was unclean at heart.
Judas was not chosen of the LORD for good (vs 18) yet scripture in Ephesians 2:8-10 shows that those are saved by grace through faith are His workmanship in ordained for good works chosen beforehand that they should walk in them.
So if Judas wasn't chosen for good works, was he among the elect?NO

I think you are being overly optimistic. It happens. The devil never stop trying to make us stumble. And people do stumble, never to stand and walk in the Lord again.

Now I think about it, I find it absurd that the devil will ever tempt us when people will never fall away from grace.

It is a rare thing happens to me that when I say something different on the Internet, people actually consider my views, not just rejecting my views by repeating the same arguments that I have said differently. I myself find it not an easy thing to listen and think than to speak. May God rewards you for your love of truth.

I have never study Hebrews in great depth, so I am afraid I could not explain it to you in more details. But one thing that I am pretty sure. It is talking about believers who received the gift of the Spirit has turned away from the grace that God gave us, and there is no more salvation for these people.
I have known that to learn, one must be Humble. In my Christian Walk, I continuously unlearn some things and learn others.
Thank you for sharing and am personally continually studying these difficult passages. All I know is scripture never contradicts scripture.

i'm sure they'd have a reason as to why they stopped following Christ..
Care to define how you have come to define a few of those things maybe...?

Cause I don't know if your "following me", so to speak...? Is it possible for one to be deceived into thinking they have not fallen away, when they have really, or really have fallen away, or not...? And what does, or what would that mean either way...?

God Bless!

I'm just trying to stay on topic... Falling away, falling from Grace, ect...

I'm only here to learn, and so others can learn, ect... And we can all each teach and be taught together, hopefully... Maybe arrive at some truth perhaps...?

God Bless!

apparently not.

I simply answered the question of what it means to "fall away". your follow up questions reveal that you have some ulterior motive to your inquiry. if this is more of you attempting to debate Calvinism, i'm not interested.

have a good day..

I have no intention to prevent anyone from learning in an objective mind. But the more I think about your replies, the more I am concerned about you yourself, not the question.

I do not wish to make assumptions about a person. So please, kindly tell us in truth that why do you ask this question? Is there anything in your heart that makes you concern this question, or is it merely a random thought?

You may choose to reply or not.

The more I think, the more I regret I have ever argue on this issue. It is turning into a debate that most people promote their own idea using the Bible, instead of promoting the Bible together, with the same purpose of seeking the truth and looking for renewal of our minds.

I will never make that mistake again.

The verse is indeed directed to the "saints." It admonishes them to persevere by keeping the commands of God and their faith in Jesus by not worshiping the beast and accepting the mark. Do you deny that you are 100% certain that you will never deny Jesus? If so, you are better than Peter who declared the same thing.
The saved in Christ cannot worship the Beast.
That verse is to those who are already saved and to encourage them to be steadfast in the faith , not to obtain .

I lean toward some ends of the spectrum on some things, and this would probably be one of them, but I wanted to hear what others had to say also, and I'm always looking for some conversation starters or good discussion threads and topics that will generate some (and hopefully genuine or leading to genuine) (and fruitful), discussion, and discussions, and outcomes, ect...?

Oh, and I'm fine BTW, but thanks for the concern... :)

God Bless!

Great! Challenging what we believed in is a must to seek the truth. If you too read the Bible in this way, allowing the word of God to challenge your belief and not just merely fit what you already know to His word, you will surely find the truth.

From what I personally see, many Christians, including me, have made such mistake when reading the Bible.

Hebrews 6:4-6 answers this very question. In the KJV it says that it is impossible for a person who is born again to fall away and IF it were possible than there is no way for that person to get their salvation back because they would have to crucify Jesus again.

So why do tons of Christians fall away then? 1 John 2:19 answers this question as well. They simply were never Christians to begin with because had they been Christian they would have remained in the faith. They think they're born again because they had come to church a few times and maybe have given to the church but they didn't have a relationship with Jesus. Jesus further comments on this point in Luke 8:13.

I’ve read through these posts and can’t help but feel a lot people put limits on Jesus Christ. He allowed himself to be put on a cross and crucified for all sins. Past, present and future sins with no limits. Your “work” is to believe in him, once you belong to him, he promised he will not ever lose you. You my have little faith, you may feel you have no faith. You will make mistakes, you will sin. It’s doesn’t matter, it’s now Christ’s faith and perfection that covers you. The mercy and grace via Jesus Christ is bigger and better than anything you or anyone could possibly ever do or think to do. Not one of us deserve these blessings, but the are freely given to us by way of Jesus Christ. If you read this as a license to go blantently sin and do wrong your missing the message.
