Simply because the Hindus or New Age believers do something does not mean they have the rights to it. Muslims pray, does my praying to God make me a Muslim? Buddhists chant, are Christian chants Buddhist? No, they are not.

Attempting to quiet the mind is a basic meditation technique, it can be found in Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, and other traditions. The difference is the why on the attempt to quiet the mind.

And what happens when we get there. I think of it as deep listening without our usual distracting inner chatter.

Contemplation is Christian as well as Hindu.

Meditating on the Word of God is Christian not Hinu. Emptying your mind as Hindu and other pagans which the New Age and certain so called Christians do is not.

Read a little St.John of the Cross. In fact read the Catechism on contemplation.

Are you familiar with Lectio Divina. It holds the whole process that includes the Word of God but also takes us deeper into it in Contemplation, resting in it with God in silence. It is not exactly emptiness but a silent fullness.

I don't need any of that, I have the bible.

In other words it adds to the Word of God. None of that you will find in the scriptures.

"O that you would be completely silent, And that it would become your wisdom!"

Job 13:5

Of course, in context that is Job talking to his friend who thinks he knows something. But still, wise words for all of us.

Of couse is is not in context, nothing to do with meditation. We are told to meditate on God's word, not to empty our mimds, that is not meditation.

It is also not possible without becoming unconscious.

Do you meditate? If so how do you meditate? How does it help you? I like to meditate on peace. Inside i have battles raging and i find that closing my eyes and meditating on peace is helpful. I find refuge in this. This is a huge part of my faith lately.

Can you say more about how you do it? Exploring the different meanings of "peace"? Praying for "peace"? Dwelling on the though of "peace"?

About meditating on peace. Sometimes it just comes to me when im happy, i'll meditate on Gods peace and love. Other times it comes to me when i need peace, i cl;ose my eyes and begin to feel peace and meditate on it. And other times it comes much later, after i endure a little suffering. Is it from God? I believe so.

I believe so also. But what do you mean by "meditate"?
How would you instruct someone?
Mediating means to think about something, ponder it. Thats my definition anyway. Its not something i learned exactly, its just something i do. I dont think i could instruct anyone how to do this.

I was overcome by a bit of anxiety and distress, but then i meditated quite randomly on a cool breeze. I didnt try to think of a breeze, it just popped into my head. Anxiety and distress are like leaves in the wind blowing away. My mind is clear and i can rest in Gods peace. Is there anything wrong with this type of meditation?

Wrong? It sounds excellent to me.

The breeze is a nice image, quiet and peaceful.
