Hello Family of God,

I'm still quite new here; so I do apologize if this topic is in the wrong area.

As I was gathering information regarding False Prophets, False Teachers, and False Apostles . . . I came across an UNPRECEDENTED amount of False Prophets. Such as never occured in this manner. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of false prophets today across the globe. Is it possible for a "false prophet" to accurately "predict" upcoming events in the future? Yes! Demons are disembodied spirits that can travel at lightning speed, and are able to collect enough data from the minds of unbelievers, and even in their homes. These evil spirits at times can give somewhat accurate details of what is to come ahead. Keep in mind that although these are "FALSE" prophets; their message is still considered FALSE even if they were to accurately foretell a future event. There was a damsel (or "a slave girl") in the book of Acts who had been given this ability. Being poor and indigent, she turned to the power of "sorcery" by "selling out" to Satan in exchange for her to be granted the power of divination so she can make a profit for her masters and for herself. You would be surprised at how many people in "Hellywood" have done just that in exchange for fortune and fame.

"And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination (Lit., Grk. "pneuma python"; i.e., "a python spirit") met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants (Grk. "doulos"; lit., "slaves") of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and [said to the spirit], I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. (Acts 16:16-18)"

Paul did not *rebuke* the damsel; he had rebuked *the spirit* (i.e., "said TO the spirit") which took possession of that slave (i.e., "a slave to Satan") girl. Also notice how this slave girl KNEW who the *Apostles* were, and even KNEW the *Message of the Gospel*. This is why there are MANY "false teachers" in the pulpit who preach and teach false doctrines; but they are NOT Christians at all . . . rather, they are demon-possessed men and women who know how to "twist and distort" Scripture in their attempt to deceive simple minded Christians (cf. 2 Cor. 11:13-15). These demon-possessed preachers and teachers BELONG to the Satan (e.g., v. 15 -- "his ministers"; *POSSESSIVE* pronoun). Some of these false prophets can be more deceiving than others based on how much they were willing to sacrifice to "the god of this world". As cited below: false prophets can at times "rightly" foretell an upcoming event so as to deceive others that they are indeed "true" prophets. However, these false prophets will sway MANY into following "other gods" -- especially if one is not *grounded* in the knowledge of Scripture. Many professing "Christians" are often deceived by such agents of deception because they have not taken the time to *study* it out, and to *test* the spirits to SEE if their "message" is TRULY from God (1 Jn. 4:1-6).

"If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or wonder, And the sign or the wonder [come to pass], whereof he spake unto thee, saying, [Let us go after other gods], which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 13:1-3)"

This false prophet in the video clip is an OBVIOUS false prophet. His motive is to deceive *simple minded* "Christians" into handing over their money to him. This man is fleecing the flock for personal financial gain and filthy lucre. This is just one example out of hundreds or thousands of them.

"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. (Matthew 24:24-25)"

What was the FIRST thing Jesus had said when His disciples asked what signs should they take notice of prior to His return?

It is written:

"And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, TAKE HEED THAT NO MAN DECEIVE YOU. (Matthew 24:3-4)"

"And MANY false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive MANY. (Matthew 24:11)"

In Closing:

As I mentioned elsewhere in other threads regarding this topic; there has been an *unprecedented surge* of "false prophets" in "Christiandumb" today. This is unlike any other time in History; beginning with the Old Testament; the Intertestamental Period, and to the end of the New Testament. Anyone who can *adeptly* DISCERN the *signs of the times* would be *aware* that in Today's Church Age, this is a *unique* SIGN than any other time in History.

"Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 24:42-51)"

God Bless!

The Bible says beware of false prophets and the whole world was deceived when John wrote Revelation, and the deception continues on. Overcoming is required and few it is who find the narrow road that leads to life. Being deceived in it self may not be a sin, but if the deception separated one from God that is a sin. What God requires from us is required whether we are deceived or not.

Hi Sparow, for clarity's sake, please elaborate a bit on this if you wouldn't mind (because I think I know what you mean, but what you wrote here can be taken in two very different ways ;)). Thanks!

Also, it seems there may have been at least a few who remained faithful, yes .. e.g. Revelation 3:7-13?
Overcoming is required...
Is this required overcoming that you speak of something that we do on our own/apart from God's grace, or are we only capable of persevering to the end because of His grace?

Thanks!

I have made a close study of the Scriptures about false prophets and I have discovered that in the Old Testament the false prophets were ones who taught that worshiping idols was okay and that judgment will not come on the nation because of it. The prophets of Baal in Elijah's were those who were advocating the worship of Baal, the Canaanite god of nature and fertility. They were not prophesying faithfulness to the Living God. We need to be clear about that.

The false prophets who advised Ahab were prophets of Baal whom Jezebel supported. They prophesied that Ahab was going to win a great victory, when the truth that came through the true prophet was that Ahab was going to lose his life.

We cannot use those OT references to accuse any Christian teacher, no matter who they are, of being a false prophet similar to any false prophet that was described in the OT. Those who use the OT references may be reflecting the basic principles of false prophecy, but if they are trying to apply them to big-name Christian teachers, they are being false teachers themselves, misquoting and misusing God's Word!

I looked at the New Testament references and discovered that these false prophets were directing their prophecies and teaching to unconverted people, inducing them to turn away and rebel against Christ, and promote all kinds of ungodliness among non-Christians. So, to apply those Scriptures to godly Christian teachers, just because they might have one or two controversial doctrines or who promote signs and wonders as part of their Gospel preaching, is the misuse of the New Testament references and the motivation is usually from a prejudicial spirit, or a spirit of jealously and envy that these big-name preachers have bigger and better ministries and attract more people to their meetings than they do.

A New Testament example of a false prophet is that of Elymas who tried to interfere with Paul's teaching of a Roman Proconsul and tried to turn him away from turning to Christ. Paul dealt with him accordingly.

But a preacher who preaches the Gospel and wins people to Christ cannot be a false prophet in terms of OT or NT Scripture. A person who sets up a website discrediting and accusing a godly preacher just because that person has doctrines that differ from his own, is just as a false prophet as any false prophet in the Old or New Testaments.

The scripture I thought I was referring to I cannot find.

Luke 21:8 (NKJV)
8 And He said: "Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The time has drawn near.' Therefore do not go after them.

I assume that Jesus is saying that the deceivers will call themselves Christian.

Luke 21:12 (NKJV)
12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name's sake.

I believe this refers to the Inquisitions; remembering history and prophesy repeats.

I find the scripture abstract and I work at the level of abstraction that I find. A lot of my thinking comes from the messages to the seven churches; two of the seven receive no condemnation; the other five are told what they need to overcome sometimes in order to be saved, some even need a new name. But the two who receive no condemnation, yet if these of whom nothing more is required, overcome they receive greater rewards; but it is not stated what these should overcome in order to receive greater rewards.

While God is very graceful I believe all the doctrines (of men) involving grace are false.

I view the New Covenant or testament a mirror image of the OT/covenant; the old being carnal and the new changing toward spiritual; and I believe we can learn all we need to know about modern false prophets from the OT.

Hi again Sparow, actually, I believe the "deceivers" the Lord is referring to here (and in Matthew 24) are those who claim to be Jesus Himself, returned to Earth.

Luke 21:8 (NKJV)
8 And He said: "Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying,
'I am He,' and, 'The time has drawn near.' Therefore do not go after them.

Matthew 24
4 Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you.
5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.

23 Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe him.
24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
25 Behold, I have told you in advance.
26 So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them.
27 For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Yours and His,
David

While God is very graceful I believe all the doctrines (of men) involving grace are false.
I have something of yours from earlier in your last post I'd like to ask you about, but I'd like to jump to your final statement first.

What are some of the "doctrines of men" that you count as false because they involve "grace"?

Thanks!

AMEN! Good post.

False Prophet and Flim-Flam man Jim Bakker is confronted on the set of his new TV show.

.
I don't see the spirit of Christ in the way the guy interrupted the speaker. Also, he positioned his phone so he could record the response and post it for people to view. Also, the interrupter is dealing with Scriptures out of their normal context. All the video shows is the interrupter asking loud, rude questions, and not giving Bakker a chance to answer. And Bakker is too far away to hear his reply. I hope security came and removed that rude interrupting hypocrite from the TV studio!

I have something of yours from earlier in your last post I'd like to ask you about, but I'd like to jump to your final statement first.

What are some of the "doctrines of men" that you count as false because they involve "grace"?

Thanks!

--David

The thing about scripture, even though we swear on the Bible, the contents of the Bible could never be used as an argument in court because this is no exclusively correct meaning for any of it and lawyers would have a field day.

I do not know what Grace means to you as a Calvinist but to a dispensationalist it is something that may be distributed using a tip truck. Grace is a characteristic of God and is favour found in God's eyes.

All the teachings about grace are intrinsically linked to abrogating the Law. Abraham gave cattle and goats in order to find favour in God's eyes, today people believe favour is found in God's eye when the Law is abrogated.

I view the New Covenant or testament a mirror image of the OT/covenant; the old being carnal and the new changing toward spiritual; and I believe we can learn all we need to know about modern false prophets from the OT.
The New Testament Scriptures that speak of false prophets show that these false prophets deceive the unconverted away from Christ. They preach and teach that people don't need Christ to live meaningful and peaceful lives, and the false signs and wonders are there to show that the false prophet is more supernaturally powerful than the powerless Christian churches that teaching that the supernatural power of God ceased and is no longer available. The purpose of these false prophets is to discredit Christ and the Christian church and to show that godless living is okay.

This is true; the whole world is deceived by Satan. In the secular world deception is rampant, the UN, climate change, global warming, sexuality and the list goes on.

The warning given by Christ is given to His followers, in particular the apostles; the warning would still be useful any who heard it.

Consider the secular situation, most countries have two political groups; the socialist and the conservatives and the try to appear to be enemies, yet they both follow the same road to the same destination; all roads lead to Rome; the conservative drag their feet and move slower and some may not approve of the destination but they are trapped and a world dictatorship is looming.

I don't see the Spirit of Christ in those who make predictions based on the words of men, and who defraud believers of their money, like Jim Bakker continues to do.

It is not like he has never done this before.

Wake up Church!

I can't comment on Jim Bakker's ministry because I have never viewed any of his messages. I will take the time to view one and then I can make a more informed opinion about him.

My home is less than an hour away from Charlotte, NC, where Bakker's PTL Club was located many years ago.

He started out claiming to heal people on radio and then moved to television.
He was convicted and sent to prison for his fraud soon after his extramarital affair with Jessica Hahn was revealed to the public.

The man gives Christians a bad name...

Hi Sparow, the Bible is largely a foreign language to most (even though it is most often read in the native tongue of the reader) because it needs to be understood from God's spiritual POV (which is not possible for non-Christians .. 1 Corinthians 1:18, 2:14).

That said, God very much expects those of us who are His to "rightly divide" His word .. 2 Timothy 2:15, and I believe the evidence is there that we have done just that (for the most part anyway ;)).

For instance, as a Calvinist, I stand within the pale of Christian orthodoxy at a polar opposite position from my brothers and sisters in the RCC concerning about 10% of the Christian faith (hopefully that will not always be the case :)). One the other hand however, we walk in perfect harmony with one another concerning the other 90% of the faith (which is why I not only use but am able to recommend the Catechism of the Catholic Church as an excellent, well-written, concise theology that does a great job of defining most of the foundational truths of the faith).
I do not know what Grace means to you as a Calvinist but to a dispensationalist it is something that may be distributed using a tip truck. Grace is a characteristic of God and is favour found in God's eyes.
Where justification/salvation is concerned, I believe that:

Mercy = God choosing to withhold from us the punishment that we rightly deserve.

Grace = God choosing to give us that which we did not earn and do not deserve, eternal life.
Grace is the UN-merited favor of God (well, unmerited by ~us~ anyway!). In reality, God's grace is hardly "unmerited", rather, His grace is "merited" for us by the actions of Another.

To be able to stand before God without the Savior we would need to be what we cannot be, and to do what we cannot do, 1) be perfectly innocent 2) be perfectly righteous, and 3) pay the price for our own sins. Therefore, outside of Christ and what 'He' did for us (His righteous life, His death on the Cross, and His resurrection), we have no hope of salvation/eternal life (as He is our only innocence, our only righteousness, and the only atonement for our sins).

2 Corinthians 5
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Yours and His,
David
p.s. - just FYI, Abraham was counted as righteous before God because of his faith, not because he sacrificed bulls and goats .. Genesis 15:6; Hebrews 9:22, 10:4.

Romans 4
20 With respect to the promise of God, he [Abraham] did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,
21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

I remember that scandal! He was the one who was in tears before the cameras after he got caught! Pity he didn't go to God in tears before he got caught!
