There is something the reverse of this in one of the major OT prophets, but I don't know exactly where.

The sayings in the little book are prophecy. They are both good and bad prophecy events. such as - the full vials - bad -
New Jerusalem -sweet - good
These sayings make up chapters 16-22.
These were so John could prophesy again. The mystery of God part ends with the 7th trumpet, but later John wrote out the details of the visions that came from the little book that he ate.

The gospel is sweet to believers, but in the end there's also the bitterness of eternal condemnation at hand for those who never came to faith, which may include family and loved ones.

Sometimes the truth isn't what we want to hear... so where it might taste sweet at the outset, the inner reality can be hard. What if... and please, this is just an example and not meant to create debate... but what if you were raised to look toward a rapture Christians are not here at the time of trouble. But then, you read the Word of God and it is sweet, but at some point your lens changes enough that you can see the fullness of what you read and you find out you will be here during the time of trouble. That would be a bitter reality, right?

Yes i looked at a few cross references and that verse was one of them. In the Psalms the author says that Gods word is sweeter than honey (Psalms 119:103, Psalms 19:10)

Well obviously the Revelation has predictions of terrible persecution and devastating judgments, that's the bitter part. There is also this:

Thank you, This is probably wrong, but i keep thinking that this bitter sweet revelation might refer to what goes on inside ourselves. The word is alive and sharper than a double edged sword. I know this is wild speculation but i cant shake the thought.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

It means it was easy (sweet) to taste/read but hard (bitter) to digest/understand.

Well that's a facet of the same basic principle, it tastes good but digesting it is tough

My thoughts are not relevant. Scripture defines scripture (Genesis 40:8; 2 Peter 1:20; Isaiah 28:10-13, etc).

The "little book" then "open" (Revelation 10:2) is the specific 'portion' of the Greatest time prophecy 2,300 day/years; ending AD 1844) in the Bible (Daniel 8:13-14,26; 12:9) which had been "sealed" until a specific "time" (Revelation 10:6).

The "angel" (messenger) is Jesus Christ Himself. See Revelation 10:1 and the symbols therein used, "clothed with a cloud" (as in the OT, Exodus), "rainbow was upon his head" (OT, Ezekiel, Daniel, etc); "face as it were the sun" (OT, Malachi); and "feet as pillars of fire" (OT, Exodus)

It is the same Personage as in Daniel 8:13 ("certain saint"), 10:4-9, 12:1,7. See also Ezekiel 1 & 10.

Then read of similar events in Ezekiel:

The "eat" involves taking into the mind/heart the word of God and 'digesting it'. The 'sweet' is the Gospel, and the 2nd Coming of Christ Jesus.

Exo_15:25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

Psa_104:34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.

Psa_119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Psa_141:6 When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

Pro_16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

The "sweet" was the understannding of the latter half (portion) of the specific 2,300 day/year prophecy of Daniel and the times foretold.

The "bitter" came after the preaching in the experience, just as the apostles expected a "sweet" experience with Christ Jesus and His triumphal entry in to Jerusalem, but it soon turned bitter, and they were disappointed, and so likewise in our times, similar events took place at the end of the "time", which was a test to God's own people.

Thus "in thy mouth" the preachment was sweet, but it did not bring the results expected (humanly speaking).

Jer_6:26 O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

The people expected Christ to come, but they did not have full understanding of the prophecies, and this was foretold in the 7 thunders (connected with the voice of God, and events), of which God told John not to reveal (though he understoood), for the people that were to receive this message, were to be tested and winnowed, as it was in the days of Jesus on earth. The chaff were to be blown away and a great shaking take place.

Yet, they were to prophesy again, just as the Apostles then did in Acts.

Rev 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

This is fulfilled in the following preaching:

Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 14:13, being directly connected to Daniel 12:2,11-13. "Blessed" (and the special resurrection to come).
