We were all created for a purpose. Except for me it seems. I have virtually zero talents except I'm really good with computers. But I haven't really worked on a computer for three years now. To put it lightly, I'm depressed. Yet at the same time I'm happy. If that makes any sense? I mean... I have schizo-affective disorder (which is a mental illness that basically means I'm both schizophrenic and bipolar at the same time) so its natural for me to be depressed. That's why its a mixture of bipolar depression and schizophrenia. I mean... I know God loves me. I know that I'm saved (I'm sick of questioning my salvation and the salvation of others) but... I just want to know why God put me on this Earth so that I can go out and do it you know? I mean my life is almost over and I'm sick of just playing video games all day because I don't know what else to do with my life. I have no flipping clue what the hell God wants from me. I just know that I am special to him. So... How can I figure out my purpose? Unless my purpose IS playing video games and working on computers. If it is what a lame purpose I have! Lol. But basically those who are older than me. How did you discover Gods purpose for you? Don't be shy to share. I don't bite.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

For me, I ask the Holy Spirit to search me out to find any part of me that I may submit all I am to Him that I may serve the Lord with all I have and all I am to G_d's will and not my own! I know I am yet still flesh and I must still submit my will to G_d's will for my flesh is weak. My life has been saved so many times by miracles from G_d I feel so ashamed I have not done more for G_d with my life! I often ask on my knees; why me Lord? I have yet to receive an answer to that question; and yet He keeps saving me. I can't count any more how many times He has saved me and I am not worth of what He has done for me. I only pray I can in some way repay His Grace before I die! I have seen and experienced so many things outside what average mankind and most Christians have hopefully before I die something I have within me will help others as much is so outside average experience.

I much appreciate your humility and good attitude ---even in the face of your mental diagnosis. I hope you are working with a sound M.D. to get helpful medication to maintain self (I know about this as having worked with such conditions over the years in mental health). You don't seem to be much off track in your posting. Such condition is physiological in origin, and so don't fall into a reasoning like some people who think it is some strange other-worldly mental possession. God cares about those who acknowledge Him, and all of us need help in various illnesses at times (and we may not be completely cured, but can find some peace and adjustments).

To truly find the blessings of God, peace, and assurance, one needs to possess God's gift of His "...beloved Son", the Lord Jesus (note John 1; John 3; and John 14 as starters). When I came to receive God over 60 years ago, I moved from just believing in God to receiving His "only begotten Son" as He bids us to do. Believing ABOUT God is not sufficient, I hope you know, but it speaks of a very personal relationship through Jesus, the Christ of God who we MUST know.

When one receives the Lord Jesus as lord of their life (and best Friend), God-the Father will seal one as a "child of God" by His Holy Spirit presence , as Bible scripture clearly teaches us. Let me advise you to read your Bible ---beginning in the four Gospels daily to learn about the goodness and care of our creator-God. I will pray much for you , friend.

Neo, I will be 69 this month, so I assume I am older than you. I believed in Jesus around the age of seven, so that's a pretty long time. But, I did have a period of time when I stepped out from under his umbrella of protection over my life, and when I did some pretty horrible things, but by his grace, he brought me back, and 7 years later, I disobeyed him again, but he brought me back again, and two years later he gave me this present ministry.

The calling he put on my life, which was really his calling on my life even before I was born, even before he created the world, is to write down what he teaches me on my computer and to place it on the internet so that the internet can "runwithit," which is the name of the ministry he has given me (based off Habakkuk 2:2-3).

So, for the past 14 years I have been doing just that. Every day I wake up with a song in my head, which is either a song someone else has written, or is a song the Lord has given me to write, and the song then goes along with wherever I am reading in scripture for that day, which the past year has been basically in sync with the daily readings on Bible Gateway, but a larger swath of scripture than what they share.

I read the passage of scripture (the whole chapter) and then I look at the lyrics to the song, and I see how the two are related, and then I just ask the Lord to teach me from his word, and then I just write what he teaches me and I post it here and on several blogs the Lord has given me. 7 years ago, half-way through the 14 years, he also gave me the gift of writing spiritual (biblically-based) songs. And, he gives me poems to write, too. And, I post all of those on the internet, as well.

But, at the foundation of all of this is that I must daily walk with my Lord in fellowship with him, in obedience to his commands, in surrender of my will to his will, and I must walk in his holiness and righteousness and no longer according to the ways of my sinful flesh. I know that if I am to do the will of God for my life, my heart and life must be sold out to him, holding nothing back. I must be willing to do and to say whatever it is he gives me to do and to say, even if I get hated, rejected, mistreated, misquoted, slandered, and falsely accused in return (see call of Jeremiah chapter 1).

So, if you want to know God's will for your life, stop the video games and get on your knees and pray and repent of all sins in your life and surrender your all to him completely, holding nothing back. Then follow him wherever he leads you and do whatever it is he commands you to do, and then leave the results in his hands. But he will not ask you to do anything contrary to the teachings of his word or against his moral character or against his divine will for our lives.

You obviously know how to write and how to use a computer, so use it for the glory of God. Also, follow the will of God that you do know, that is already written down for us in God's Word. Bathe your mind now on the Word of God instead of on the junk of this world and let His Word speak to you. And, then obey what he shows you. And, you will know his will, because you will be doing his will, and so you will hear his voice clearly.

Mrs. Sue Love, mother of 4 (+4) and grandmother of 14, ages 7 mos. to 20 years.

So, you understand, maybe, how something impersonal like games and computers is not what God really wants with you. I would say this is right; because Jesus wants us to be busy with submitting to God, prayer, caring for and sharing with various people . . . loving any and all people.

So, then, we do not want to get with only some one special someone and that's it, but keep growing to discover how God has us with Him and sharing with other Jesus people. And with this do what we can to help others and ourselves.

It could work out that as you share with some Christian people in a church you might get responsibility helping with computer operations or whatever you are good at and learn. But this can work best, I think, with first having love sharing as family with God's people.

Here is another of the writings I told you about. This one is the newest song the Lord gave me to write. It has to do with using whatever gifts God has given us, no matter how insignificant they may seem in the eyes of humans. And it had to do with dealing with life and its ups and downs, so you may find it encouraging.

You can use your skills to help others create blogs who aren't computer savvy or volunteer to help older people with computer issues . Or just by being a example to others that even though you don't have mental freedom you can still live a productive life helping others. Once you start the ball rolling Jesus will point you in the right direction.

God's will is that every day you become more and more transformed into the image of God in the Lord Jesus Christ his son. That plays out in everyone's lives differently. Whatever talents you are given you are biblically commanded to use for the purpose of furthering the Kingdom of God. I would just start with wherever you are and whatever talents you have like others have suggested and then see where God takes you once you have taken the first step.

I don´t think that God has plans for us necessarily. Even if there is a plan, does not mean we follow, since there is free will. Maybe it´s you who put these high standards on yourself. You can´t enjoy this great gift you have received called life, if you are not living in the moment, but wish to be other places. If you don´t think you have acheived anything, is because you look in the big perspective, instead of the small. I believe we learn everyday, everyday we wake up, we get a new chance to make it better than yesterday. That´s beautiful. Maybe you did not acheive something big in life, but that does not mean your life is worthless. We must find joy in the small things. only you know what´s in your heart, that is what is the most important. Live your life in gratitute, Thank God for each day you get to wake up, that´s all it takes really. All the small things you do is what counts, that´s enough. If you help an old lady over the road, give money to a homeless, etc, anything where you put yourself last is the essence of love, and what we believe in as Christians. If you do this, you have acheived it all, you do not need to acheive big things, what you have done is enough. All we have to do is love.

You are older than me. I'm 32 years old I should have put that in my OP. Thanks for the reply. Its funny you should mention my video game playing because if it weren't for video games I never would have come to Christ in the first place and I never would have gotten married to my wife. So they weren't all that bad. God used video games and message boards to turn me from an atheist of over 20 years to Christ.

Lately I've been feeling God pushing me to do a website for mentally ill people so I've been working on articles for that. I have a friend from on here helping me code the site while he's on vacation from school.

So you're right that God leads us everywhere we want to go. And you're right that I shouldn't play video games as much. I don't think I'll give them up entirely because they're a part of my life and a part of me but I will definitely play them a lot less than I do now. That's for sure. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

I do realize that a little bit. But they're like the only talents that God has given me. So I guess what God wants from me is to bring people to Christ on video games and to finally make that website that I've been trying to make for the last 3 years or so. He probably wants me to start focusing on my weight too. Which I've been doing lately.

Much of what I would share has been mentioned by some of the previous posters already, and I do agree wholeheartedly with those who said God has given you gifts and talents to be used for him, along with being transformed to the image of Jesus.

But let's say you wake up today and wonder, what shall I do to live the life God intended for me?

For starters, just the fact he created you tells you he wants to have a deep personal relationship with you every second of the day. So, as in any other relationship when you love someone, you are overcome with a desire to spend as much time as possible with that person. The longer you share your lives together, the closer you become, and after a while, you feel the other person has become so much a part of you.

The Bible is full of answers to your question; it's not always a matter of what we do with our life, but more a matter of who we become. Love your neighbor as yourself, seek ye first the kingdom, trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, acknowledge him in all things, give thanks in all things, be strong and courageous, repent, rejoice, let your light shine, keep your word, do not grow weary in doing good, and the list could continue until you had so many answers you almost don't know where to start.

Think of the fruit of the spirit and pick just one you'd like to cultivate. Let that be a short term goal for now and see where it takes you. Please feel free to write back if you'd like to talk more.

So you're right that God leads us everywhere we want to go.

I didn't say that, or if I did, it was a typo. God doesn't lead us everywhere we want to go. He leads us to go where he wants us to go. Just needed to clarify that. Thanks for responding. Sue

Luk 1:74-75 That he would grant unto us, that we..might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

But for us to accomplish this privilege we must first deny our own will, which is God's purpose for us all.
