I want your opinion on my tattoo ideas

I have two tattoo ideas that I want to get done but my friend has some objections to them. I've always loved reading mythology and love the old Greek epics. I wanted to get a tattoo of Hercules fighting the Hydra. I've also been a fan of Lovecraft's work and wanted to get Cthulhu doing a sort of meditation pose (sort of like a Buddha statue)

My friend and I both enjoy mythological fiction and we see it only as fictional entertainment. But he says that since both of these tattoos have religious connotation with them that I should maybe not get them, despite him saying he enjoys Greek myth and H.P. Lovecraftian horror.

I don't have any qualms about it but thought it wouldn't hurt to get more advice.

Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Do you really want to have pagan tattoos on it?

I don’t know how old you are but believe me, your interests will change, dramatically, as you age and mature.

I went to a rough high school. In fact, just surviving there was a badge of honor. My friends and I were going to get flaming “V” tattoos to show where we came from. Only one guy did it. He couldn’t wait to proudly show it off on the other side of town. It was super cool ..... for about a month. He greatly regretted it a short time later. A 20, 30, 40 etc year old man with a high school tattoo looks pretty silly.

I am very glad I don’t have the flaming “V”, or “AC/DC”, or “Ozzy Rules” or any other tattoo idea I had.

You might have a future partner who really finds it weird? People can have strong feelings about this kind of thing. It's subjective, but you shouldn't underestimate how strongly people can react if they feel something like this is just wrong.

Do they give glory to God? (That's not facetious, it's your life, your story) if not then then you know the answer.

Not everything needs to give explicit glory to God but make sure it doesn't give glory to something else ahead of God.

Geek mythologies can easily be spirutalized and represent battles of good and evil which we can be used to reflect our own internal struggles (then ideally point to God in the end). That's just an example, don't just make something up to justify yourself but sincerely ask what are the values behind these images and do they honour God? They might... but it's your values so you need to figure it out yourself.

Exactly my thought. Why would you want the gods of the nations etched into your skin permanently?

Leviticus 19:28 does not relate to tattoos in general, it speaks of a specific use of them.

If you decide to get them, consider the point made about future spouse and if they will keep you from being hired somewhere.

You could use them for witnessing by comparing Jesus to them.
