Will near death experience accounts cause Christianity to find common ground with other religions?

I don't believe so. I had a lot to write about this. But I will keep it short: no, especially since greater proofs and clear evidence doesn't unite humans, nor do people leave their ways due to convincing evidence. This is proven in the Sunni-Shia issue for example where the proofs are plenty one way and all conjecture the other way, yet conjecture wins.

In the movie version of the book "Heaven is for Real" Pastor Todd Burpo was approached by a Palestinian woman while he was on a plane. She asked if he was Pastor Todd Burpo because she had read his book? He said that he was and she said that while she was home she and her family had a really good conversation about the book "Heaven is For Real.' She told him that she and her family were Muslim..... so at least in some cases these accounts can bring some people closer and give evidence for heaven........ and another place that is certainly not heaven.

The simplicity of what was shown to near death experiencer Bob Jones surprises many of us.

I noticed another group of people on my left side and they had like a conveyor belt underneath them. And they were wrapped up in all different kinds of things. So I looked at that line. It was so horrible and everyone when they came there, they recognized Him. Their eyes got big, and everyone that is going to hell has had a witness in one way or another that there is a God. And everyone of them willingly denied Him. For each 2 in the line that I was in, there was 98 in the other line.


I watched the Lord speak to people that were coming there. And He asked them only one question: “Did you learn to love?” He’s not going to ask you what you did. If you learn to love you are going to do that which is right. Did you learn to love? (3) He would ask them that question and they would say, Yes Lord and He would kiss them right on the lips and embrace them and the double doors of His heart would open and they would go right on in.

OK... good point....... but I want to give my kids evidence that there is a future for this earth and this is one of the clearest explanations that I have read in modern English.

Instilling a sense of hope in the next generation is certainly a good thing but telling them a real reward doesn't come until after death is probably less than effective.

"Then we build desalination plants along the coast near these water sheds and pipe water to the tops or ridges of the water sheds…"

"We need to start working on this as soon as possible because, if the planet reaches a point to where it is warming faster than our technology can possibly stop or reverse this warming trend, then our planet is lost and all life will cease to exist on this planet within a relatively short period of time. We will need to start with the largest and hottest deserts because cooling them will have the greatest benefit in the least time (Global Warming II by biologist Carl Cantrell)."

This solution fits amazingly well with Isaiah 35

The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing; the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon: they shall see the glory of Jehovah, the excellency of our God.

Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing; for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

3. The future is not fixed and can change

During Karen Schaeffer's NDE, she was shown her children's future as it would exist if she decided to remain in the light. Because she decided to return, the future she was shown did not happen. This suggests that the future is always changing from moment to moment based upon our current actions and decisions. This principle supports quantum mechanic principles.

One of Margot Grey's NDE research subjects stated:


"During my experience ... I was also shown events that are likely to happen in the near future, but was made to understand that nothing is absolutely fixed and that everything depends on how we choose to use our own free will, that even those events that are already predestined can be changed or modified by a change in our own way of relating to them." (Grey, 1985, p. 123)

NDE experiencer Howard Storm was given information on how the future is not fixed:


"We have free will. If we change the way we are, then we can change the future which they showed me. They showed me a view of the future, at the time of my experience, based upon how we in the United States were behaving at that time. It was a future in which a massive worldwide depression would occur. If we were to change our behavior, however, then the future would be different." (Howard Storm)

Howard Storm was also told how a single person can change the world:


"All it takes to make a change was one person. One person, trying, and then because of that, another person changing for the better. They said that the only way to change the world was to begin with one person. One will become two, which will become three, and so on. That's the only way to affect a major change" (Howard Storm)

During Ricky Randolph's NDE, he was told virtually the same thing:


"You must return and help others to change by changing your life!" (Ricky Randolph)

Dannion Brinkley was told how the future is conditional upon human beings:


"If you follow what you have been taught and keep living the same way you have lived the last thirty years, all of this will surely be upon you. If you change, you can avoid the coming war. If you follow this dogma, the world by the year 2004 will not be the same one you now know. But it can still be changed and you can help change it." (Dannion Brinkley)


Brinkley was also told that the future is not cast in stone:


"The flow of human events can be changed, but first people have to know what they are." (Dannion Brinkley)


Brinkley also gives the following advice on how people can change the world:


"The quickest way to change the world is to be of service to others. Show that your love can make a difference in the lives of people and thereby someone else's love can make a difference in your life. By each of us doing that and working together we change the world one inner person at a time." (Dannion Brinkley)

Turning deserts green on a large scale is now certainly possible and every cubic meter of ocean water that is desalinated and added to the water table of Israel, Jordan, Australia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, California or Texas is good news for the residents of New Orleans, Miami, New York, Bangladesh and any other place vulnerable to rising ocean levels.

Two facts that argue against your idea.
1. Jesus said that he was the life, the Truth and the Way. it doesn't matter what people belief, if they want to worship and serve God they have to do it through Jesus.

2. dne do not cause those who have them or read about them to seek Jesus. It is very much as jesus said in the story of the rich man and the beggar. If people won't believe the bible they won't believe if people come back from the dead.

From a Buddhist perspective, the problem with testimonies from OOBE's is that there are said to be various planes of existence (26 heavenly planes), many of which are populated with various god-like devas, each with individual personalities/wants/desires, among which the most powerful within a plane - not seeing higher planes - believe themselves to be almighty and preach thus.

As your quote itself points out, the "man in Christ" was caught up to a specific plane - "the third heaven".

Is this true? I don't know. However, the possibility of conflicting OOBE messages, and different planes of existence, complicates things, and presents a problem for "common ground-ing".

Earth is in the process of domesticating itself. It is never again going to be as wild a place as it once was. There will be great wild places, reserves where nature thrives. Gardening and reserves will be the thing in the future. Population increase is getting very close to the optimal range of energy to cause a shift in consciousness. That shift in consciousness will change politics, money, energy.

After dying, going through my near-death experience and coming back, I really respect life and death. In our DNA experiments we may have opened the door to a great secret. Soon we will be able to live as long as we want to live in this body. After living 150 years or so, there will be an intuitive soul sense that you will want to change channels. Living forever in one body is not as creative as reincarnation, as transferring energy in this fantastic vortex of energy that we are in. We are actually going to see the wisdom of life and death, and enjoy it.

Bosonic String Theory postulates TWENTY SIX dimensions of space - time to unify all four forces into one fundamental force / energy!

My impression so far is that ultimately..... .there is really no contradiction at all between all of these OOBE and NDE accounts..... .it is just that the plans of the Creator for all of us cannot be put within the little tiny boxes that each of us were taught to use to make sense of this world and our place in it.

But.... .is Messiah Yeshua - Jesus free to appear to another people other than the original disciples?

Secondly..... could it be that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus wants people to love each other and could it be that the churches..... tend to teach competition and doctrines somewhat like a sales pitch .... rather than basic and genuine love?

Indeed, it appears that all that happens is for a purpose, and that purpose is already known to our eternal self.

In time the questions ceased, because I suddenly was filled with all the Being's wisdom. I was given more than just the answers to my questions; all knowledge unfolded to me, like the instant blossoming of an infinite number of flowers all at once. I was filled with God's knowledge, and in that precious aspect of his Beingness, I was one with him. But my journey of discovery was just beginning.

Now I was treated to an extraordinary voyage through the universe. Instantly we traveled to the center of stars being born, supernovas exploding, and many other glorious celestial events for which I have no name. The impression I have now of this trip is that it felt like the universe is all one grand object woven from the same fabric. Space and time are illusions that hold us to our physical realm; out there all is present simultaneously. I was a passenger on a divine spaceship in which the Creator showed me the fullness and beauty of all of his Creation.

What seems to surprise and even offend many Christians..... is the idea of G-d.........
saving people from a different group who have not yet done what they have been taught that must be done...... in order to be saved!

The guards were screaming and beating the people into submission. The people were Jewish men, women, and children. This was the sacrifice of an innocent people to whom God had given the law to be an example, a light, to the rest of the world. This Holocaust was breaking God's heart. The anguish that Jesus was suffering at the slaughter of his people was too much for me to bear and I begged that we leave this place. I will never forget this: his anguish at this horror and what it represents. This was one of the low points in human history."

I asked, Why does God let things like this happen? They told me that God was very unhappy with the course of human history and was going to intervene to change the world. God had watched us sink to depths of depravity and cruelty at the very time that he was giving us the instruments to make the world a godlier world. On the surface..... if we take an overly simplistic approach to what was shown to former Atheist Howard Storm Ph. d...... it could seem to contradict:

Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

I personally believe that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus - Issa is much, much, much greater and more powerful since his resurrection and to him has been given all judgment........ .and just like the thief on the cross..... he can take anybody into paradise that he chooses to take into paradise...... for whatever criteria he chooses....... not necessarily what our human logic may understand...........

I began to study near death experience accounts in 1990 and I was shown
error after error after error after error in my own ideas and world view.

I met an Israeli in 2010 or 2011 or so through the internet who is involved in getting the remains of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov moved from the Ukraine to somewhere in Israel.

If I had not already had twenty years studying NDE accounts..... i would have had no clue about the astonishing depth of wisdom in the teachings of Rabbi Nachman but.......
because i had some background.... i was able to recognize Rabbi Nachman as one of the most astonishing intellects to walk this earth in 2000 years!
