I have no basic problem with the Doctor becoming female. That possibility had certainly been implied by the transformations of the Master, by one of the other Time Lords whose name I can't recall, and to some extent by River Song.

I will, however, be annoyed if the plots flog social politics instead of pursuing good plot--which some of the story lines have unfortunately done in recent seasons.

Doctor Who has had female companions who were fantastic and capable women in their own rights. We'll see if they have male companions who are as equally fantastic and capable, or if they go down the predictable radical feminist trail of male characters who are only either feckless or villainous.

(As an example, in every single Oprah Winfrey production, there are never any honorable males--every male is either feckless or villainous).

I'm not comforted by the announcement that this season would not revisit any characters from past seasons. I think that's a "The Last Jedi-ism" that rather a mistake. That's cherished Doctor Who fan service that should not be ignored when they've made this distinctive a change in the character.

This Doctor should certainly meet John Barrowman, some version of River Song, and Madame Vastra again, and the sooner the better.

Wit and wisdom of the 11th Doctor

On kissing for the first time

"Act all nervous and scared, your basically going to feel that way anyway so you may as well make it part of the plan."

On working out what is going on

"Lets see what tries to kill us and work back from there"

On companions

"I'm being all clever and no ones here to notice what's the point of even having you?"

On being threatened with a gun

"I managed to get in here with a big blue box past you without being seen, do you really think I'm going to be that easy to kill?"

Clara "Really?"
"Of course not, it's a time machine, not a miracle worker"

So what do you think of the 13th Doctor and the episodes so far?

I think the writing could be better on some of them. The last one was okay, the first one was okay but the rest have been below par in my view.

"Question, why do you talk to yourself when you know you are alone? Conjecture, perhaps it's because you know you are not."

"The question is, who really wrote beethovens fifth?"

"You have a horror movie called Alien, no wonder they are always trying to invade you."

"She did blow us up with a big bazooka, this is us blown up with a big bazooka."

The master on tea..."It will prepare you for the horror to come".
"The horror?"
"Mostly the tea"

Missy on taunting a Dalek
"Your in the wrong neighbourhood honey and they want to steal your ride!"
I'm Doctor Who and these are my disposables

On famous last words...
"Say something nice"

On herself
"Hey Missy you so fine, you so fine you blow my mind, hey missy!"

Meh. Better than Capaldi's first dozenish episodes, but still meh. I don't think they took the bad guys far enough in any of the episodes I've seen. I felt they were never quite the threat they were supposed to come across as. The bad guy from the first episode was boring, even the teeth didn't make him scary, just a weirdo. The episode with the 'ribbon' monsters was almost there, but again, they didn't take it far enough. I'm not worried about the random strips of curtain I have laying around. The episode with the mud monsters were great until they
turned into human zombies/possessed human with terrible makeup
, which for me took away the scariness of what they had been hinting at. The latest one with the moths was almost there as well, the moths weren't the main bad things, but they could've been! #Makefabricmudandmothsscary! I was hoping the humor and fun would make up for the lackluster bad guys, but it's been kinda flat as well. None of the episodes have stood out to me so far, including the Rosa Parks one, it was good, but should've been much better. The lady who played Rosa was great.

Yes, the problem with Season 11 is that--by design--they made the problems too small and the Doctor's role too small in them. It's like going from the Doctor saving the universe to merely saving someone's job.

The Rosa Parks episode is an example. It was okay as a story, but they introduced a villain that was immediately revealed as ham-strung. It would have been fine as a rare "light" episode, but "light" episodes were the main course of the season.

Time travel trumps everything. It requires substantive opposition.
