I'll be honest to some degree your husband may be right in that if you have serious mental health issues the bible's ability to convict of sin might be too much for someone with your specific mental health issues because that might be all you end up seeing in the end..

At the same time, only having anything to do with our faith and learning it once per month doesn't seem enough.

What you might like to do, since your husband knows you and your issues best is to ask him to set you up with some Bible studies that he designed himself. See if you can't get some studying done more often that way.

But for random reading, your husband may be correct, and would be in a position to know better than any of us will.

my husband wnats me to learn but because of my ocd and other mental health he feels i would struggle or be worse off without it being put into context and explained properly as before when i have done this it has made me quite ill and i had to seek help with my docter and other medical proffesionals to put this right. he hasnt said its no forever, just that its not a good idea to do this by myself and would be better in an enviroment where it is properly and clearly explained and put into context. my husband is a new christian

Maybe it would be appropriate for you and him to sit down and do a bible study together.

Or have him map out a bible study for you.

Or have him write down verses that declare your freedom and healing in the Lord.

You can do a bible study on the instances of the word heal..in the Greek within Matt Mark Luke John.

If it's made you sick before outside the proper environment then I'm sure he's right on this topic for you.

Since he's a new Christian and less able to guide you himself, why dont you just pray, and take care of your health.

This is such a good time of year before winter hits to be outside and just appreciate the gifts God gave us.. :)

Sometimes it's perfect to just appreciate all the gifts of God in the quietness of life, and take care of ourselves in humility.

God knows you love Him..

I'm not sure how bad your OCD is. I have a bit of OCD and I read the Bible by myself.

I only have a simple advise to you: Study the whole Book of John (New Testament). Read it very carefully. Read it a couple of times over and over. It's probably the best place to start the Bible.

Here's online Book of John:
Bible Gateway passage: 1 John 1 - New International Version

Nothing wrong with studying the Bible by yourself, ironically, many Christians are not aware of this verse:

1 John 2:27
As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.

GOG...

My only problem is that ...why does he have the right to take Bread from his wife.

What if the husband did not or does not hear His voice and is using physical signs to make an emotional decision to not let her read. We fight not against flesh and blood...

Would the bible ever agree with someone being instructed to not read our DAILY Bread?

Would the Word ever advise us to step away from His voice and the Word because distance from Him supposibly heals us?

Matt 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Isnt it Him and His Word that brings freedom and healing.

Because it's made her sick recently trying my best to take the caregivers opinion into view as well.

I recommend Philippians to be ok for you. Especially Philippians 4:6-8.

Ask your husband to read that and ask if you can read it together. At the time of writing it the writer was under house arrest but still wrote a few pages of joy filled writing. I remember Philippians 4:6-8 when I worry.

God bless you sister.

We are not fighting against flesh and blood. The Word brings freedom.

When does the little while turn into a reoccuring lifestyle?

Did he hear from the Lord or was it out of physical and emotional fear?

We are to submit to our husbands. The Word of God comes first as our Daily Bread.

What if her husband tld her to blaspheme the Holy Spirit and rip up the bible or kill?

Since he's not doing that I think it's safe..

When he comes and asks us how to best do this we can advice him..

Overall... i think for a time you should listen to him...if it was from God.

God knows who and what is spiritually going on behind the scenes. So i would stay in a lot of prayer and maybe fast.

But honestly though, the Bible is not OCD-friendly. The way it's put together and the dramatically different writing style of some of the authors like Apostle Paul brings more questions than answers to OCD sufferers like me.

I've read though a thousand page, workshop manual of a car. Didn't have a problem with it because it's very clearly written and every concept and idea agrees with each other, there's no room for misinterpretation. The Bible on the other hand, many of the teachings appear in contradiction with each other.

It's very easy to make mistakes with interpreting the Bible and the fact, we have so many denominations with doctrines that disagree with each other is solid proof of this problem.

That is quite visible and quite obvious to an OCD sufferer. Please understand the unique perspective of OCD.

We don't make highly controversial questions or topics on purpose. It's just how we see the Bible.

I am concerned for you. I would find ways to read or listen to a Bible when he isn't around. Your ultimate authority source is God. If you husband stands against God, then you are right to deviate from what he tells you to do in that area.

God doesn't worsen OCD. Demons do. God certainly wouldn't use His Word to put someone in a deeper prison. In contrast, I have seen kids--who are much more real than most adults--start listening to Scripture while they slept (even though they were angry with God and didn't want to come to Him) and they reported that their anxiety attacks stopped or their nightmares stopped and that they slept better.

If someone ordered me to stop reading my Bible--as if they had control over me--I would personally question whether she or he were really a Christian. And, I would ignore that request.

And while I wholeheartedly disagree with someone's suggestion that you should stop reading--because that would NEVER COME FROM GOD, I do think fasting and praying could help in your situation.
