The Church Has Become A 'Pillar of Salt'

Recently the Washington National Cathedral in Washington D.C. interred the ashes of a man who was murdered because of his homosexuality. While this is laudable it is another sign of our societal decay. Jesus Christ said that the last days of mankind would be like Sodom and Gomorrah, and it has come true, for the church has now become a 'pillar of salt'!

The actions of the Washington National Cathedral is liken to Lot's wife in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah where two angels instructed Lot and his family to flee the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah and don't look back. All of Lot's family heeded the warning except Lot's wife who looked back and instantly turned into a pillar of salt.

The actions of the Washington National Cathedral is paramount to the church becoming a pillar of salt for the two angels did not come to warn all the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah of God's judgment, but only the one righteous man, Lot and his family.

It was Lot's wife who could not tear herself away from the immorality of Sodom and Gomorrah and therefore was turned into a pillar of salt when she foolishly looked back after being warned not to. Lot's wife can no longer be raptured or resurrected as she is no longer considered being part of the living.

Why didn't the Washington National Cathedral inter the ashes of all the aborted babies who tragically died at the hands of the most notorious abortion doctor, Dr Gosnell. The lack of sympathy for the unborn is another sign of the church becoming a 'pillar of salt' for they seek the approval of the wicked rather than heed the warnings of God.

I now realize why God kicked Adam Eve out of the Garden of Eden. He didn't want to 'inter' the ashes of the wicked, Adam and Eve and their descendants, in a place of holiness.

God Bless

The bashing of mainline Protestant churches needs to end. We are Christians by confession, we deserve at least a basic level of respect other than to be compared to "pillars of salt" for extending mercy to a suffering family by honoring their son's memory . This is inflammatory language and it does not reflect a Christ-like attitude.

There was no bashing. Just words of salt regarding God and HIS Church, and issues regarding HIS Church.

There was nothing posted that contradicted God and what HE has clearly set forth for all believers.

No one is bashing this tragedy.

What's your explanation for why God sent His own Son to die for these wicked people ?

All some people can see is an angry God that hates what they hate. They can't see the merciful God that lead Adam and Eve on a journey of faith that finds its destination in the world to come. They do not see God rightly.

Adam and Eve needed a Savior, as did all of mankind. That is why God did what is written in John 3:16. It is because of the absolute dire-ness of the state of man that God did such an extreme thing.

God is HOLY. He sent His only begotten Son to suffer, bleed, and DIE for any who would come to Him seeking mercy and grace and forgiveness.

God NEVER apologizes for His holiness.

And yes, His mercy, grace, and forgiveness is freely given to anyone seeking it.

He also reminds us to never mis-speak what HE has said or to "put words in His mouth".

Isn't that true?

This is just attempting to sound charitable but is really a backhanded, catty remark.

The Episcopalians I know live very Jesus-centered, grace-filled lives. They don't deserve to be lumped in with Sodom and Gomorrah.

The Episcopal church has gone so far overboard in its support of homosexuality, including support for homosexual marriage, ordination of homosexual priests, etc. that honoring a murder victim is an offence that bears similarity to a noble deed. Had we weighed homosexuality as a far greater offence than murder, then the complaint would have been more palatable. As it stands, though the sexual perversion be deemed utterly grotesque, it lacks the visceral fearsome quality of murder. Pitting the two against each other does not help your cause. People are far more afraid of murderers than they are of homosexuals, though the latter may have dragged several times more people to Hell.

Who has done this ?

Man is prone to do this. That's why it is written in Revelation, as well as throughout the Bible that we are NOT to change or omit His Words.

What this of course reminds all of us of, is to be clear on what God says in His Word.

He is CLEAR about what He hates. (Yes, God hates).

As a matter of fact, He abhors this:

"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren." ~Pr 6:16-19

In addition, we, believers are to be salt and light:

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." ~Matt 5:13

We are to liberally "salt" our conversations.

Bishop Michael Curry, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, is actually a great preacher. I like his message and he's doing a better job than their former presiding bishop, who managed to stir controversy too often.

i like him too.

i like that he is right out there, right on the street, speaking freely about Jesus Christ. And at least from this short, almost 4 minute message on the video, his message is solid.

Should the church refuse to inter all sinners, or just ones who sin differently than us?

There is something about open sin in the Bible isn't there?

Something about not associating with those in unrepentant open sin?

I'm sure it's in 1 Corinthians somewhere, chapter 5 perhaps?

I'm big on the forgiveness of God, but if someone isn't His child we pray for them in hopes they come to salvation, but after they die not much can be done, the choice is made prior to death.

The Episcopal Church actually has a variety of perspectives on human sexuality among its members. It just permits congregations to have gay weddings, but not all choose to do so. Some don't. Episcopalians are driven by congregationalism, for the most part, with bishops serving an administrative and sacramental role. They are elected, just as in the early church.

One reason I am not Episcopalian is because down here in Central Florida the leadership is more like "wet baby baptists" who like liturgical worship. Whereas I have always been closer theologically to being Lutheran... so I ended up becoming Lutheran after the local cathedral became embroiled in a national controversy... and that was the last straw. If I lived closer to St. Richard's in downtown Winter Park, I might well have joined that church, as they had an ethos that was more like California Episcopalians, since their rector was from California.

There are actually quite a few conservative Episcopalians in prominent places in society. Justice Neal Gorsurch or the Fox News commentator, Tucker Carlson come to mind, as well as the religious author and speaker, Eric Metaxas. Episcopalians, like Catholics, do not let disagreement with specific issues in their church chase them away.

The bottom line is, that it is what God says and thinks that matters, isn't it?

Sure, but Episcopalians do not read the Bible as individualistically as American evangelicals tend to, and they typically focus on scholarship and theological discourse to inform their reading of the Scriptures as well.
