This has been baffling me for a while now, when I consider Judges giving divorces, marrying gay couples e.t.c yes I know it's against God's words but there is scripture stating we "should obey the laws of the land" so what gives?? Does than mean the Judges are obeying the laws of the land so following scripture?

The problem with marriage is that it has been secularized. Personally, I don't think the government should call what they do "marriage" or "divorce". It's confusing.

I'm all for the government declaring people who want to live together in a "civil union", whether heterosexual or homosexual, for the purposes of tax filing, estate continuation, and other legal issues surrounding our way of life.

But marriage is something different. Marriage is something special. It was the very first institute put in place by God. It predated the law! Marriage is unique in that it represents the most intimate and deep relationship that a person can have this side of heaven. That is exactly why sexual sins are so serious in Scripture. Sex is one of the most intimate and meaningful and binding activities that we as humans can engage in. Done right, within a marriage, it is nothing short of holy.

That is also why Scripture declares that only adultery is capable of severing the one flesh covenant formed in marriage. You see, when two Christians get married, it actually doesn't matter what the government says about them in terms of filing for divorce. What matters is what God says about our marriage.

The Lords word is higher than man's laws. Judges obey and execute the laws of the land (supposedly) of which are not necessarily supported by the Lords word. If man's law conflicts with biblical teaching, then we are to choose His ways over the laws of the land.

God Bless.

Hello Mike.

1 Tim 2:1-2 Says that we should pray for those in authority so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all Godliness. We obey laws for the same reason, unless they specifically contradict one of The Lord's commands.

If judge's bring in marriages we do not agree on into society then pray for them. If they try to bring marriages we do not agree with into the church then we disobey them.

God Bless :)
