It looks like there is division in the US. Some violence also.

Could anything be done to stop it?

It seems unavoidable. A republican senator's wife was just sent a graphic text of a beheading, and their loved ones' addresses have been leaked. Remember that just a week or so ago, a handful of republicans had their home addresses and phone numbers leaked on wikipedia, and the doxxer had threatened to leak their childrens' health information as well. A GOP headquarters was vandalized. And I know that this last case was in Canada, but a pro life demonstrator was "round-house" kicked by a pro-choice demonstrator.

Nothing's going to repair this damage when those responsible aren't open to having a dialogue. They want to act out- having a dialogue is the last thing that they want. Violence can only be avoided when both sides are willing to speak before drawing blood.

I agree, but it takes both sides to stop calling each other names. Pro-life people need to stop yelling murderer and other offense language. Stop with billboards with this language and photos of supposedly aborted late term babies. Stop telling people they are hell bound, etc. Open, peaceful, respectful dialogue doesn't include these things.

Regardless, name calling shouldn't beget violence. Only violence should do that.

Time. I believe the Trimp demographic is generally older and almost exclusively white. As immigration and old age take their toll, things will normalize.
It doesn't particularly seem that the Trump demographic is the problem demographic, though.

A day where women who are sexually assaulted are taken seriously would be a good start.

Democrats stop lying about everything, including their so-called "sexual assaults" which happened 36 years ago but are conveniently "remembered" when needed to attack a Republican, would also be a great start.

We can't have peace when lies abound.

But it does, that's exactly what caused someone to throw their drink in someone's face which started a fist fight and ended with an arrest. Even extremely intelligent, well brought up people lose their temper and act out over words.

You have no evidence for this.

OTOH we have scads if evidence that Mr. Trump is an accomplished liar. Scads.

Can't even start to have a dialogue when the other side thinks you're lying all the time.

There isn't going to be a civil war in America, at least not like the first American civil war. What we will probably see are cranked up leftists/communists committing bombings and acts of violence like in the late 60's and early 70's. Instead of the Weather Underground and Symbionese Liberation Army, it will be groups like ANTIFA and Democratic Socialists (who are already violent). The main difference nowadays is that 1. These groups are funded by people with deep pockets, 2. Many of their actions are given tacit approval by left wing members of Congress and politicians, and 3. The mainstream media is no longer the only game in town and no longer has the ability to whitewash and minimize the news of the violence.

Also, the economy is roaring and unemployment numbers are at their lowest in decades. This is huge. People aren't going to fight if they are employed, fed, and happy. Now, if the economy crashes, all bets are off.

There are decent and honorable people on both sides of this.

It's the ones that seem to feel - they made us do it - that are the problem. They feel completely justified, entitled, and see the world only as 'good versus evil'. There are no complexities in life to them.

Problem is they don't see this is the same type of stand that abusive people - and heck even rapists - use in their own justifications for their violence as well. They always claim someone made them do it too.

I think to many are being manipulated. It would be nice if speculation like you quoted could be placed in a nice, neat little box like that. Solutions would be easier to find it that was the case.

Pray for your enemies, turn the other cheek, go the extra mile, return good for evil.

I'm well aware that people let words bring them to violence- the pro-choice guy kicking the pro-life demonstrator proves that. But at the same time, people also use their speech to hurt others (obviously). Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Neither should happen- but what's easier? To restrain your tongue or to restrain your fists?
