There is such a thing as a "rude awakening," don't you know?

After all, the Burning Monk certainly freed his soul, didn't he?

And he certainly shone -- briefly.
To willingly sacrifice one's life to save the lives of a lot of other people, that sounds like a Freed Soul to me.

QV please:
Despite the shock of the Western public, the practice of Vietnamese monks self-immolating was not unprecedented. Instances of self-immolations in Vietnam had been recorded for centuries, usually carried out to honor Guatama Buddha.

I don't think so at all. Family, Service, Community and Awakening are all about Love.

That's all nice and dandy for your life and I'm very glad for you. Personally I find myself praying to whom Jesus prayed to. From there I find the Light of God with in Family AND in Human Beings. Service is all about God and making Him a reality in my life. And Awakening is freeing my Soul so God can shine from there.

You are right, if we love others that is the proof. But none of us are perfect so we also need to realize that and put our trust in Jesus to forgive us and Save us.

Why is Repentance the Way to Salvation?

How do we mend a relationship? Let me ask you another question. Do outward acts mend a relationship? Let’s say a husband or wife commits adultery. Does an outward act mend that relationship? If a husband committed adultery would buying his wife flowers mend their relationship? What if the husband bought his wife flowers every time he committed adultery, would that mend their relationship?

Do outward acts mend your relationship with Jesus? Does getting baptized mend your relationship with Jesus?

And if they would have been winked out of existence in a split-second of time, the unconverted ones would be in Hell.
And now they are in hell, despite getting a little more time to change their minds (that is, those few who ever even got to hear the gospel).

If that's God's plan, I'm sure you'll agree that it's not a very good one.
God will save anyone who repents and cries to Him for salvation.
Maybe we should clarify what we mean by salvation here. I assume you mean in the afterlife, because I think it's obvious that God doesn't save everyone who calls on him from physical pain and so forth.

Did he live a perfect life? If he didn't then he needed to put his trust in Jesus, not his own actions. If his actions were a result of his trust in Jesus then he is in Heaven.

So how did that work out? Did they repent? And what about all the ones that die in accidents or war just as they've reached the age of accountability? Why not give them time to repent?

The Bible says God searches our innermost thoughts and intentions. Jesus is always with us from when we are being formed in the womb. I don't know anything about age of accountability. Jesus is always at work in our life and knows the intentions of all of our actions. We will be judged on our heart intentions.

God didn't create evil, the devil did. God allows us to choose. He doesn't sent anyone to hell, people choose to go. God wants everyone to be Saved. Jesus died to Save everyone. Jesus wants everyone to turn to Him so that He can Save them. The evil in the world isn't from God, it is from us choosing to listen to the devil. God gives people what they want up to a point in this life. Everyone chooses to listen to the devil because we inherit that from our parents. The whole world is affected by sin. But everyone is given a choice to choose Jesus. To live in Love. But only when we admit that we are wrong and admit that we need Jesus can we live this life. Jesus is in control. He determines when people die and He knows who chooses Him. To me it doesn't matter when you die, but where you are going after you die. It will be far better for me to die then to stay here, but that isn't God's plan for me.

God didn't create evil, the devil did.

God created the devil. And and all powerful, all knowing god, knew what he would do and God did it anyway.

He doesn't sent anyone to hell, people choose to go.

No one actively chooses to go to hell. But that's not what people are even choosing. Going to heaven is dependent on meeting your God's conditions.

I can't choose "neither", can I?

Is there proof God exist?
Bible verses related to How Do We Know God Exists from the King James Version (KJV) by Relevance

Romans 1:20 - For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

1 Corinthians 8:6 - But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.

1 John 4:8 - He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Romans 1:18-20 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; (Read More...)

John 1:1-2 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (Read More...)

Revelation 4:11 - Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Jeremiah 29:13 - And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

John 3:8 - The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Romans 1:21 - Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

John 1:18 - No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

Colossians 1:15 - Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Psalms 90:2 - Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou [art] God.

Genesis 1:27 - So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

John 3:16-17 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Read More...)

John 20:29 - Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.

James 1:17 - Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Psalms 19:1 - (To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.) The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Job 38:4 - Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Romans 1:25 - Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Beautiful, beautiful, I teared up reading these. So the put it short, proof of God is first, all around us, it is obvious that He exists just by us existing, and looking around you.
Second, when you seek Him, when you seek out Christ, He lets you know He is there, when someone someone calls out to Him, He reveals Himself to that person, every single time. In whatever way He pleases to do :D.

From my understanding God gives Grace and Mercy to those who love Him. To me Grace means discipline to correct me. Discipline to keep me on the Right path. But Jesus also gives Mercy. To me Mercy is to not suffer the consequences of my bad choices. Jesus tells us to seek His Will over worrying about everyday life. If we do He will take care of all our worry's and problems. To me that means seek Love first and everything else will work out for the best.

God didn't create evil, the devil did.

I think most Christian theologians disagree with you but I think many lay people agree. Lay people often times put the christian god on equal footing with Satan but if god created everything, he also created Satan and his role.

My understanding is that god also created the devil, who was once an angel. Not sure how rebellion would have been possible if angels did not have free will, though. Maybe I should make a thread on understanding the devil.

If he is omnipotent and all-loving, then yes, absolutely.
Adolf Hitler? Pol Pot? Stalin? Ted Bundy? Charles Manson? Mohammad? Joseph Smith? Jim Jones?

All should be Heaven, whether they repented and asked Jesus Christ to be their Saviour or not?

I'd say something here, but I'd get moderated.

I suppose I understand your kneejerk reaction, being a hardcore Christian and all but it would be a thread that welcomes Christians too. I haven't thought it through yet but I think it would be about the psychology of antagonists and their role in religion. I don't really see what the big deal is, given that. I will warn you, there may be some pretty heretical discussion.

All should be Heaven, whether they repented and asked Jesus Christ to be their Saviour or not?
It's the Christian claim that they should be in heaven despite what they did, if they only asked Jesus to save them.

But yes, I would expect an omnipotent and all-loving God to have stopped those people. You may say he gave them free will, but if he's the creator, it's he who set the boundaries for that free will. Why must a person's free will include the ability to murder millions or rape children? What does that freedom accomplish? Do you personally think it's worth it?

To me it looks like God designed a game he's bound to lose whichever way you look at it. It's supposedly his deepest desire to see people in heaven, he loves each of us more than we can fathom. Yet, because of the rules he decided to lay down, he is forced to torture most of them. Forever.

Is there really a way to make sense of that? What am I missing?
