Pastor Timothy Keller says that the world is not divided into sinners and saints, but into repentant and unrepentant sinners.

Hmm...by repentant sinners I would assume he means those who repented of their sins and no longer do them? This is necessary. Remember that John the Baptist came preaching baptism and repentance. Those who rejected John's message did in no way receive Christ's, either. You have to make straight the path of the Lord - but once you are a child of God, Christ's righteousness is imputed to us. And in Christ we are no longer sinners. We are saints. Children of the Living God.

The imputed righteousness of Christ is not only in having a belief in Jesus, but it also involves works of faith, too. For the imputed righteousness of Christ continues to work in our lives if we also walk in the light as He is in the light.

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1 John 1:7).

Walking in the light = Keeping God's commandments
(or loving your brother) (Compare 1 John 1:5-7 with 1 John 2:3-4 and 1 John 2:10-11).

Some are saying that they are sinners and that they can break God's Moral Laws on some level (i.e. not walking in the light) and yet, they are still be saved. While some of them say that they do not live in a lifestyle of sin, they preach a double message (and contradict themselves), and say that a believer sins all the time or they cannot keep all of God's laws. However, 1 John 2:4 says that the person who says they know God and does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in them.

For after a person accepts, Christ, grievous sin can still separate them from God unless they repent (seek forgiveness with God - 1 John 1:9) and then fruits of repentance (deeds) (forsaking sin and good works) shows that their repentance is true (1 John 1:7). Adam's one sin caused a separation between all of mankind and God (1 Corinthians 15:22). Peter told Simon to repent of his one sin of trying to pay for the Spirit by praying to God with the hope that he may be forgiven of him (Acts of the Apostles 8:22). Ananias and Sapphira died over each of them committing the one sin of lying to the Holy Ghost; And a great fear came upon the church and all who heard it (See Acts of the Apostles 5:1-11). Why would the church fear God if Ananias and Sapphira were saved?

Luther said, “ Sin Boldly”. You and the other legalists don’t have a clue as to what he meant. That is your loss.Faith plus nothing saves.

Martin Luther said,

"If the mercy is true, you must therefore bear the true, not an imaginary sin. God does not save those who are only imaginary sinners. Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong (sin boldly)...."

So Martin Luther is telling you to be a sinner. John says he that commits sin is of the devil (1 John 1:8). Jesus says that the Pharisees are of their father the devil, and they will do the lusts of their father (John 8:44). Jesus said to the Pharisees, "He that is of God hears God's words: you therefore hear them not, because you are not of God." (John 8:47). John says, "In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother." (1 John 3:10).

Many in the Free Grace crowd here are saying they are a sinner and they are saved by God's grace and can even be saved by breaking the Moral Law. Sure, some say they are not turning God's grace into a license to sin and they are not living sinful lifestyles, but when you quote a man who tells you to be a sinner, he is telling you to sin. Jesus says to: "sin no more." (John 5:14) (John 8:11). Martin says, "Be a sinner." Who are you going to listen to? I choose Jesus.

For when you declare that you are a sinner, you are saying that you sin. Jesus says he that sins is a slave to sin (John 8:34). Yet, no doubt you and many others in the Free Grace camp believe you are saved even while you sin. This is why you said that you are saved by God's grace + nothing. This would no doubt include "sin" in the category of "nothing." However, this is turning God's grace into a license for immorality (Jude 1:4); For God's grace does not cover willful sin (See Hebrews 10:26). God's grace covers those who seek forgiveness of their sins with Him and who genuinely want to forsake their evil ways as a result of that forgiveness (See 1 John 1:9, 1 John 1:7, Proverbs 28:13, Matthew 12:41, Jonah 3:6-10).

This is a basic moral issue or an issue dealing with the standard goodness of God. If you cannot see that, it is because you have chosen not to see it. For how do you know the good guys from the bad guys when you go out into the world, or when you turn on the news, or when you watch a Christian movie? Is it by what they do or by what they believe? It is their actions that determines if they are a hero or if they are a villain.

It's another way of saying know who you are (in Christ), (a sinner in the sense that you still do and will sin sometimes) and/but walk with your head up (and not your nose) and do not let the world condemn you for being who and what you are (a Child of God, Disciple of Christ, ect)...

God Bless!

Please read 1 John 3:10 and John 8:47 in prayer several times. Also, please take note that Jesus says, "sin no more." (John 8:11, John 5:14). Yet, Martin Luther says, "be a sinner." I choose to go with Jesus and not Martin.
