THE COVENANTS AND THE 10 COMMANDMENTS ARE YOU CONFUSED?

Hi all, this is an interesting topic and worth your time and consideration.

Do you know what the OLD COVENANT is? If we do not know what the OLD COVENANT is how can you know what it is pointing to in the NEW COVENANT?

Some think that the OLD COVENANT is only the 10 Commandments. While this is true, if there is more to what made up the OLD COVENANT, is this only telling half the story? If your understanding of the scriptures is that only the 10 Commandments are the OLD COVENANT, then can it effect your interpretation of the NEW TESTAMENT scriptures if there is more to what makes up the OLD COVENANT? ABSOLUTELY!

So, what makes up the OLD COVENANT? Let’s see what God’s WORD says.

The OLD COVENANT included both God's LAW (10 Commandments [words] * Exodus 34:28), and the Mosaic BOOK of the covenant (Exodus 24:7). Both God's 10 Commandments and the Mosaic book of the covenant held a different purpose in the OLD COVENANT. God's 10 Commandments were to give us a KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN AND RIGHTOUESNESS (Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; James 2:9-11; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172) while the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT held the laws for remission [FORGIVENESS] of sin if God's 10 commandments were broken [Leviticus 1-16]. Both were housed with the ARK of the COVENANT [HOUSE OF THE COVENANT] that collectively made up the OLD COVENANT (Deuteronomy 10:5; Deuteronomy 31:26).

Some try to make up the story that God's 10 Commandments alone are the OLD COVENANT. This is only telling half the story and causes confusion as to what laws are being referred to in the NEW TESTAMENT and why many do not understand what the NEW COVENANT is.

It is the SHADOW laws from the MOSIAC BOOK OF THE COVENANT that are fulfilled in Christ and under the NEW COVENANT there is no more sacrifices for sins required from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE law/COVENANT for FORGIVENESS. God's LAW (10 Commandments) are now applied in the SPIRIT and unless our righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the Scribes and the Pharisees we will in no wise enter into the KINGDOM of Heaven.

Yep we need a new HEART by being BORN AGAIN to LOVE *HEBREWS 8:10-12; ROMANS 13:8-10; 1 JOHN 3:3-10. This is the NEW COVENANT. God's 10 Commandment have the same role they always had and that is the knowledge of SIN if broken and the standard of RIGHTOUESNESS if obeyed *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSLAMS 119:172.

HEBREWS 10:1-19
[1], For the law having a SHADOW of good things to come, and not the very image of the things [WHAT LAW WAS A SHADOW?], can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the ones approaching perfect.
[2], For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshipers once purged should have had no more consciousness of sins.
[3], But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year [Day of Atonement] *Leviticus 23:27-32.
[4], For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
[5], Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, Sacrifice and offering you desired not, but a body have you prepared me:
[6], In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you have had no pleasure.

NOTE: The NEW COVENANT is NO MORE SHADOW LAWS from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT (Exodus 24:7) God's LAW is to be written in a NEW HEART TO LOVE * ROMANS 13:8-10.

CONCLUSION: The OLD COVENANT is made up of 1. God’s LAW (10 Commandments) and the Shadow laws from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT. Both laws had a difference purpose under the OLD COVENANT. God’s 10 Commandments have the same role they always had and that is to point out what sin is and the standard of righteousness, while the SHADOW laws from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT pointed to Christ as our true sacrifice for sin and God’s plan of salvation from sin under the NEW COVENANT.

The NEW COVENANT is written in the heart to LOVE (Hebrews 8:10-12; Romans 13:8-10; Matthew 22:36-40) God's LAW on stone brings us to the NEW COVENANT in the SPIRIT (Galatians 3:22-25; 2 Corinthians 3:3-11; Hebrews 8:10-12; Matthew 22:36-40; Romans 13:8-10; James 2:8-11). Why? The controversy is that people think that ONLY God's 10 commandments are the OLD COVENANT which is only half the story of what the OLD COVENANT is. Do you think that the OLD COVENANT is ONLY the 10 Commandments?

The point of this thread is that if there is more to what people think the OLD COVENANT is and that the OLD COVENANT is both 1. God's eternal law of the 10 commandments and the SHADOW laws from the 2. MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT it shows that God's 10 commandments are still the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD AND EVIL; SIN AND RIGTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; PSALMS 119:172 and that we will all be judged by them and those who KNOWLINGLY CONTINUE to break any one of them will not enter into God's KINGDOM *HEBREWS 10:26-27 *ACTS 17:30-31

What laws are written on the heart in the NEW COVENANT promise? It is not the MOSAIC laws for remission of sin...

CONCLUSION; Jesus did not come to change or destroy GOD'S LAW (10 Commandments). It is through GOD's LAW that we have a KNOLWEDGE of what SIN is. The sabbath is still to be kept. He came to fulfil what was written of Him in the books of the law and to END the Mosaic law for remission of SIN and the penalty of SIN in those who BELIEVE

yep it is the SHADOW laws that are fulfilled in Christ. The OLD COVENANT is made up of God's 10 Commandments and the Shadow laws in ORDINANCES from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT.

NOT SAVED BY THE 10 COMMANDMENTS THEY LEAD US TO CHRIST AND SHOW US OUR SINS

I do not think there is any assumptions here or that anyone believes that we are saved by trying to keep God's 10 Commandments. We are all only saved by grave through faith and not of ourselves. It is a gift of God and not of works lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8). The gospel however is the POWER of GOD unto salvation from sin to everyone who believes and follows God's WORD * ROMANS 1:16.

Jesus says They that be whole need not a physician but they that are sick. I am not come to call the RIGHTEOUS but sinners to repentance, go learn what that means *MATTHEW 9:12-13.

Jesus says; IF you continue in my WORD then are you my disciples in deed and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free from sin *JOHN 8:31-36. This is the difference between those who have a FORM of godliness but deny the power of GOD and those who have righteousness by faith to walk in God's Spirit *2 TIMOTHY 3:5; GALATIANS 5:15.

This is why Jesus says truly, truly I say unto you unless a man in born again he cannot see the kingdom of heaven *JOHN 3:3-8. Those that are born again do not practice sin *1 JOHN 3:9. Those who continue in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN have neither seen him wo know him *1 JOHN 2:3-4; 1 JOHN 3:6. This is the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil *1 JOHN 3:9-10. Faith without works is dead *JAMES 2:18-20. True faith has the fruit of OBEDIENCE to God's WORD *ROMANS 13:8-10 and is why we need a NEW HEART to LOVE which is the NEW COVENANT promise *HEBREWS 8:10-12. LOVE IS THE FULFILLING of God's LAW in all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD and walk in his SPIRIT *ROMANS 13:9-10; GALATIANS 5:16; ROMANS 8:1-4.

God's LAW only remains on letters of stone to all those who break it.

THE SYMBOLISM IN BOOK OF REVELATION
The key to interpreting the Revelation is, for the most part, the Old Testament. Period.

One man studied and found 348 allusions (not illusions, Light) in Revelation from the Old Testament. You see the similarity in wording and the context mirrored in Revelation and the particular Old Testament story, and immediately can recognize the reference source!
That's IF you know the Bible well enough to even notice that.

95 of the 348 plain references used in Revelation as taken from the Old Testament are repeated in Revelation.
That makes about 250 Old Testament passages are cited. How many chapters are in Revelation? 22. That makes about TEN OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES FOR EVERY CHAPTER!

No one is saying the OLD COVENANT did not include the 10 Commandments although this is only telling half the story. The OLD COVENANT includes both the 10 commandments and the SHADOW laws from the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT. Together these make up the OLD COVENANT.

EXODUS 24:7 [7], And he took the BOOK OF THE COVENANT, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient.

DEUTERONOMY 29:21 [21], And the LORD shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the COVENANT THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK OF THE LAW.

DEUTERONOMY 31:26 [26], Take this BOOK OF THE LAW, and put it in the SIDE OF THE ARK OF THE COVENANT of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against you.

CONCLUSION: The OLD COVENANT is made up of 1. God’s LAW (10 Commandments) and the Shadow laws from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT. Both laws had a difference purpose under the OLD COVENANT. God’s 10 Commandments have the same role they always had and that is to point out what sin is and the standard of righteousness, while the SHADOW laws from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT pointed to Christ as our true sacrifice for sin and God’s plan of salvation from sin under the NEW COVENANT.

Gentiles are now grafted in *HEBREWS 8:10-12; ROMANS 11:16-27. If you do not understand what the OLD COVENANT is how can you understand what the NEW COVENANT is? With God's Spirit *JOHN 14:26, this is the key to unlock the meanings of the NEW. This is the same application to the OLD and NEW COVENANTS. Old covenant= OT Jews, kinda had to be born into that one.
The Old law was completed by Christ to include thought, which top shelved the law made it perfect/which means no one could maintain the law unto righteousness. Meaning righteousness can not be obtained by obeying the law.

That is all the law does not is to drive people to seek righteousness outside the law or 'atonement.'
Those who have atonement are free from the law.

Those who are not saved are judged by the law.

Those who are young in christ "milk of the word people.' are still ruled over as slaves are to the law. Once the holy Spirit sets you free then you are free from the law as a means to arive at righteousness.

Jesus boiled the law down to 2 commands. Love your lord God with all of your being and Love your neighbor as yourself. Do this in love then all of the law of the profits are full filled.

So then we no longer seek to live by the law as a means to righteousness but we live by love, as love/Agape' is the fulfillment of everything that was and matures into.

We can do the bible verse thing if wish or you can look them up yourself. Honestly if your doing this for the first time it will probably be better to ask the holy Spirit for help and go through the bible just the two of you.

Once you are free, you keep the law, not out of obligation or as a means to earn something but as a second nature to loving God with all you have. and if you break the law so what, if you hate the sin.

Got to remember till we die we will always have sin in us and that old man born unto sin will be a slave to sin till he draws his last breath. so don't let satan fool you here. he will come in the form of a pastor preacher or a set of scrap booked bible verses all cut and pasted together to tell you you should lead a perfect life. yeah, that's crap. the book of romans and galatians is where you will find your freedom.

Note your freedom from the law comes from whole books of the bible read contextually while the idea of living a sin free life will take those very same books chop up the bible verses and paste them back in a different order to try and twist what Paul meant. Stay with the contextual reading and you will find freedom from the law.
