Who is really John of Patmos? Is he really the last apostle of Christ or imposter? Did he have visions or dreams about the coming of days or of Christ? Or, were they just hallucinations or delusions from dementia or mental illness, or drugs or intoxication ?Was he poisoned by The Roman guards or suffer because of bats in the cave? Is there any proof?

Just who the author of the Revelation is is disputed. It was either John the apostle or someone else altogether. Take that for what it's worth.

But the writer certainly wasn't hallucinating and he had not been drugged or anything of the sort. The language of the Revelation is much too lucid and coherent to have been written by such a person.

The Revelation describes events of the time of the writer, and goes on to prophesy, using the language of the old testament. Each of the plagues of Egypt are included, along with a brief history of christianity, and it is written in the order of the Jewish temple liturgy.

It was written by someone quite knowledgeable and quite sober at the time.

I'm not sure why you're asking, but I believe John was truly disciple of Jesus who saw visions on Patmos. He is also known as John the Elder, though some people (incorrectly imo) hold that he is the same as John the son of Zebedee.

If you are serious, and into a little study, I recommend just two books: The Days of Vengeance and Before Jerusalem Fell.

Your eyes will be opened to Revelation like never before.
Just to put this into perspective before you try to acquire these books: both are concerned with a particular interpretation of Revelation (preterism) rather than about the question of the authorship. One of them also tackles the question of the date of the book and provides a deficient justification for the early dating, though it is, unfortunately, probably the best work on the subject in print.

Have you read either book?

I've read Gentry's book. Chilton's book is a preterist exposition of Revelation, and I have not read it as my studies of preterism have led me to believe there is no merit in it. But whether there is or there isn't, I do not see how mentioning a preterist exposition of Revelation answers the query of the OP as to the identity of the Seer, and the opening poster should be aware of this.

BTAIM, The Days of Vengeance is probably the most comprehensive book on The Revelation that I have ever read. I discovered things from that reading that were never revealed to me before. And I thought the OP was asking about the book, in general.

Great post!

Here is a site I ran into many years back that I had bookmarked and just found.
This commentator believes Paul is the author of Revelation [and of Hebrews]. He uses a rather unique writing style.....
I may take another closer look at this.....

http://www.godshew.org/index.htm

http://mark-5.net/godshew/Revelations3.htm
Revelations of Revelation 3: Author of Revelation is Paul.

Revelation 1:1 clarifies sender, author, receiver
"and he(JC) sent and signified [it] by his angel
(his angel: Paul: no servant) unto his servant John".
Sender: JC; Via Author: Paul; Recipient: John

Sorry, I have to give up..... this double and triple posting glich is a bit much.
Have you looked at this thread?

https://www.christianforums.com/threads/posting-is-taking-a-long-time.8079739/#post-73128635

Posting is taking a long time
Your right; it is doing it again. I posted that and waited five minutes and then cloned the tab; and looked at the thread that way and it hadn't posted so I tried using the "more options" option; as sometimes when things wont post by just hitting reply; they will that way...; now it made a duplicate.

When this has happened in the past it was from a glitch in the CF server and it corrected it self after about 8-10 hours; so hope it does that again.

We find the same signs in the sun and stars in Matthew chapter 24, and in Revelation chapter 6.

This is one of many examples which prove that both books were written by the same author. (God)

Just another 'drop off' trap conspirator starting a thread and then departing, probably while laughing at you guys.

The OP is undoubtedly an occultist. They don't believe Apostle John wrote Revelation.
Anyone that doesn't believe that John the son of Zebedee wrote Revelation is an occultist in your opinion? Why?
