Trump earlier in the day did not mention McCain during his signing of the defense bill, a $717 billion piece of legislation that is officially titled the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019.

The omission sparked backlash among frequent Trump critics, including former Secretary of State John Kerry, who called it "disgraceful."
tulc(President Trump's motto is apparently: "never miss an opportunity to say the wrong thing") :sigh:

Quoted from the article:
"ObamaCare, we got rid of the individual mandate, which is the most unpopular aspect," Trump said. "I would've gotten rid of everything, but as you know, one of our wonderful senators said 'thumbs down' at 2 o'clock in the morning."

Classy as always, Donald. Well, I can at least admit that there are far worse insults you can make towards another human being. Now then, let us see how some of the more extreme Trump supporters here try to spin it around as Cain being totally awful to Trump and thus needing salvation for his soul before he dies.

... Yes, I have seen that narrative made here before.

If Cain (Able & Cain?) wants to go to Heaven then he will need to reconcile with the babies and children that he dropped napalm on. Now I know that they are in Heaven so they forgive him. Is he willing to repent and admit he was wrong when he hurt them the way he did. Or even kill them and send them to Heaven early and ahead of their time. I mean I do not understand how all of that works but we will be held accountable for our life and all that we did. God is a God of absolute perfect Justice. That is why Jesus had to go to Calvary to pay the price for our sin in our place for us. Hebrews 12:2 "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

Cadet bone spurs (which miraculously healed when the draft ended) hates McCain for the obvious reason. Every person lacking moral fiber detests those who have it. McCain's very life is a living remonstrance against the sort of person Trump is.

McCain isn't perfect either; he looks like the white knight by comparison. But he's been honorable and brave in all the ways Trump has not been.

I didn't care for the war, either. But when I was called, I went. There wasn't any other honorable way to do it.

Not that being a moral cesspool is impeachable; we've had other sleazy people as president, who managed to do a creditable job. Sleazy and incompetent is a relatively unusual case.

I think this is accurate assessment of Trump.

I find the sadness in obvious pleasure Trump takes pulling others down into swamp with him. He himself states he loves being "counter puncher" who will come back ten times stronger. I suspect this must help justify his behavior to himself when he sees others doing same thing or supporting such behavior.

I'm sorry you will have to educate me on this one, because I seriously do not recall hearing about any napalm dropping before you brought it up just now.

But in any event, I was referring specifically to a time when one or two people here seriously seemed to believe that McCain needed Trump's forgiveness for not politically supporting him in order to achieve "true" salvation before he died of brain cancer, like, TRUMP held McCain's salvation in his own hands. I do not know anything about killing children with napalm attacks, but if it is true, then yeah, I certainly do hope McCain is genuinely remorseful of this and has sought forgiveness and repentance, because war and especially the casualties of civilian children that have gone with it are indeed ugly things no matter who the two sides fighting are.

The have the whole story in wiki.

"McCain was almost killed on board Forrestal on July 29, 1967. While the air wing was preparing to launch attacks, a Zuni rocket from an F-4 Phantom accidentally fired across the carrier's deck.[86] The rocket struck either McCain's A-4E Skyhawk or one near it.[81] The impact ruptured the Skyhawk's fuel tank, which ignited the fuel and knocked two bombs loose.[87] McCain later said, "I thought my aircraft exploded. Flames were everywhere."[81] McCain escaped from his jet by climbing out of the cockpit, working himself to the nose of the jet, and jumping off its refueling probe onto the burning deck.[87] His flight suit caught on fire as he rolled through the flames, but he was able to put it out.[87] He went to help another pilot trying to escape the fire when the first bomb exploded; McCain was thrown backwards ten feet (three meters)[88] and suffered minor wounds when struck in the legs and chest by fragments.[62][81][89] McCain helped crewmen throw unexploded bombs overboard off the hangar deck elevator, then went to Forrestal's ready room and with other pilots watched the ensuing fire and the fire-fighting efforts on the room's closed-circuit television.[90] The fire killed 134 sailors, injured scores of others, destroyed at least 20 aircraft, and took 24 hours to control.[81][91][92] In Saigon a day after the conflagration, McCain praised the heroism of enlisted men who gave their lives trying to save the pilots on deck,[88] and told New York Times reporter R. W. Apple, Jr., "It's a difficult thing to say. But now that I've seen what the bombs and the napalm did to the people on our ship, I'm not so sure that I want to drop any more of that stuff on North Vietnam."[93] But such a change of course was unlikely; as McCain added, "I always wanted to be in the Navy. I was born into it and I never really considered another profession. But I always had trouble with the regimentation."[93]"

Some people would say in his next life Cain will spend time with the people he dropped those bombs on. Up close and person to really get to know them.

you misspelled Senator McCain's name there.
tulc(thought joshua 1 9 would want to correct that) :)
I was just following SarahsKnight in her spelling of the name. It never occurred to me that there could be a connection between McCain and Cain the son of Adam and Eve who killed his brother. No doubt Cain killed people in north Vietnam. HE claims that is what he was always called to do.

In 1chron28:3 David was prohibited from building the temple because he was a man of blood. Yet God still made him King over Israel and we read that he was a man after the heart of God. So God can still use people for his purpose even if the have spilled blood. I have a lot of friend who killed people in viet nam and they have to deal with that. They are still my friends even if I do not approve of what they did.

"3 but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My Name, because you are a man of war who has spilled blood.’ 4 Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever." 1chron28

I can't hold a candle to McCain's service. He volunteered for combat, was severely wounded in combat, and was the target of torture, singled out because he was the son of an admiral.

Few people who weren't killed in action, gave as much as he gave for his country.

For what? What was accomplished in Vietnam and what was the reason for us to be there in the first place? Why did we stay after the United Nations pulled all the other troops out? We demoralized their women and increased their drug market.

...you realize this thread isn't really about "what did we accomplish in Vietnam?" right? If that's what you'd like to discuss that sounds like it would be an interesting thread all on it's own, but it's not really something this thread is for.
tulc(just thought that should be pointed out) :sorry:

Actually the thread is about President Trump slagging on Senator McCain hours after signing a budget named after Senator McCain.

When you join up, you swear to support the Constitution of the United States and to obey the lawful orders of your superiors.

That's what McCain did.

It's why Trump hates him, and repeatedly insults him.
