Hi, I'm worried about my salvation. I have done a lot of bad things in my life that I'm not proud of. I used to be a liar, a terrible sinner and made up a lot of things. I have confessed (to Jesus and my dad) a lot of these lies I have told and sins I have dome. I'm concerned because when I confess my sins I get really nervous and embarrassed and tend to not say what's on my mind and what I want to confess 100%, I normally get the point across but leave out details. I have severe OCD and talk to my dad about my sins many times throughout the day. everyday.... I talk so much about my sins I annoy people. I'm afraid when I remember a sin I didn't confess, God won't forgive me. When I remember any sin I always tell my family but the problem is I can go for hours talking about a particular sin and I'm like a broken record... I repeat myself. No matter what I say or how I phrase my words, I always feel condemned even hours after talking about my sins. Usually after I'm finished confessing my sins, I always forget something I left out and then I have to go back and confess again. I don't know what to do. What happens if I forget to mention a sin after a long conversation? I don't want to keep being a burden to others and annoy.

Hello, Jeremy. Welcome to CF:). If you've accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior and have been baptized in the Name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19, Romans 10:9-10), then you're saved. You may not know how to pray, but the Holy Spirit is praying in you constantly according to God's will (Romans 8:26-27).

You'll grow in the assurance of your salvation and these doubts and fears will soon fade (2 Corinthians 1:22). Don't worry, even I was a terrible liar before being saved, as was the Apostle Peter (Luke 22:54-62). Glory to God, He made me honest as well :). Welcome to the family :).

So long as you have repented and Jesus is your saviour, don't stress yourself out, we all sin and will continue BUT so long as we are not practising sin on purpose, we go to God and tell Him and pray for strength to conquer the sin. He is our heavenly Father and will ALWAYS forgive his children so long as they are sincere.
God knows our hearts, so accept His forgiveness and go forth in His strength. He loves you so much He sent His Son for you.

Just think, in heaven we won't have to worry about all this!!
God Bless you.:)

You are following in the footsteps of Martin Luther before he realised that the just shall live by faith. He made a proper nuisance of himself confessing his sins all the time, so much so, that priests got burned out listening to his confessions.

Once you receive Jesus as your saviour, you only have to confess your sins once, and only to Him. Others don't need to know about your sins, failures and shortcomings. You need to know that all your sins are forgiven and that you are totally new creation in Christ, free from the guilt, shame and punishment of sin.

From my understanding you commited acts of wickedness that are like a symptom to sin (separation from God). In Genesis 3 God told Adam and Eve that they were going to die if they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, but they didn’t die physically, they died spiritually. That separation is called sin. As a matter of fact the word “sin” in spanish mean “without”. When we don’t accept Christ we are “without God”. The Bible says that if you believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live in you because you become a temple. So, even though you are confessing the acts that you committed when you were without God, I think the ultimate confession you can do is that you were without God, but thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice you are connected to the Father through the Holy Spirit. Now you are a son, growing from glory to glory being sanctified by the Holy Spirit who is guiding you. You are a son in a growing process. You are learning your identity in Christ.

When I read your post I felt your fear, there’s a difference between fear and respect. Don’t kill yourself with fear, that’s what the devil wants. Jesus opened the way for us to enter the Fathers presence and seek forgiveness and direction; we learn to respect Him.

Also, sometimes the hardest person to forgive is ourselves. Pray for the Lord show you the way to process your own forgiveness.

I think this series will help you a lot. There are 5 videos in this series. Here is the first one:

Hi Jeremy. As I understand it confessing your sin is a way to admit it was wrong what you did. It should help you in your faith. I'll say you can also over do the confession part. Keeping the memory of your past alive. Admit your faults and move on.

But being concerned about your salvation is not wrong. Scripture say many will try but will fail. Luke 13:24. Jesus also said many are called but few are chosen. Matthew 22:14.

Salvation must be Scriptural. Scripture says workout your own salvation with fear and trembling. Phillipians 2:12. It's a serious matter. In the days of Noah only eight people were saved. In the days of Sodom only three. Of the two million Israelites that left Egypt only two went into the promised land.

I think you are on the right path but God must give you the confirmation. Don't get unnecessary fixated on one thing.

The day you accepted Jesus your sins were forgiven, your old past is gone and you were made new in Christ Jesus but your memory doesn't purge the facts and details. Going forward Confess your sins to God, this is a simple admission is all, that yes you agree that is sin, do that as you commit them ( you're still in the old body so you will sin here and there), this keeps the slate clean with God, it keeps your fellowship with Him so that you can communicate with Him. God not only forgave All your sins already but forgot them, so you can stop bugging everyone with them including yourself.. This is nothing but remnants of the old you surfacing is all, nobody needs to hear it. Rest in the Lord. It will take time for you to adjust to the new you but just the fact that you want to confess instead of keeping the lies is a sure sign you are saved. It just isn't necessary is all ! If you weren't saved you would just keep doing as before. Salvation brings a change in your heart. Do you will to lie anymore ? I bet the answer is no. That's salvation.

If you are truly saved as in born again then in time I bet the OCD will diminish too.. You will become more confident in your salvation and the promises of God.

The thing about the sole requirement for salvation, namely faith in Christ, it request trust. The one who believes Jesus trusts him to take care of the salvation issue, and stops working for it and worrying about it.

"To the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness." Rom 4:5

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it." Isa 30:15

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Pr 3:5

Martin Luther had this same problem.

Luther would linger in confessing, even for hours at a time. Feeling guilty, and not feeling ok. Shortly after leaving confession, he suddenly feel worried about a new sin he'd not thought of, and rush back to confess some more.

But reading in the New Testament opened his eyes, and put an end to that feeling of being unforgiven.

Confessing is essentially to God, and while confessing to another believer is helpful it is because you confess to God your Father in your heart that you can know the outcome is forgiveness, for real!

Believe in Him.

Because of Christ, we are forgiven, truly, and even if we do significant sins after we have come to Christ, the amazing grace is that even for serious new sins we can confess in our hearts, directly to God our Father, and be forgiven. In that instant, it's over (for that sin, even significant ones. Forgiven!

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

He is faithful and just to forgive

This chapter may help you realize how Merciful and Forgiving God is --

Hello Jeremy444777, thank you for posting. You mention that you are “worried about [your] salvation”. This used to really trouble me when I would think about repentance and sin and what happens if I die but have not confessed my sins? Do I still carry those sins and thus would I be a black spot of sin in front of a holy, spotless savior? I was relieved to find out that Jesus took on all of my sin (past, present, and future) while on the cross. In Romans, Paul writes that, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of blood—to be received by faith.” (Romans 3:23-25a NIV). So, we are all sinners who miss the mark set by God. However, because Christ died on the cross as a sacrifice of atonement, if we receive Christ by faith, we never have to worry about where we are going after we die. We are written in the Book of Life!

So why are you having a problem with guilt? When we are saved, Christ gives us a gift of the Holy Spirit. This is what guides us in interpreting the Bible and in helping us live a life without sin. Will we ever be completely sin free? Not until we are in heaven. When sin entered the world, we became sinners. That does not give us a “license to sin,” but acknowledges the fact that we will make mistakes. As we grow closer in our walk with Christ, we should sin less.

I hope this helps you. Please do not beat yourself up. This probably goes without saying, but I would encourage you to spend time in the Word, in Prayer, and serving in your local Church. Doing these three things helped me tremendously.
