Every worthy, baptized member is entitled to and should receive a patriarchal blessing, which provides inspired direction from the Lord.

Actual LDS person here: a Patriarchal blessing is an individualized blessing specifically for that person.
Oh! So the blessing recorded biblically to a biblical patriarch is passed on?

I'm a little confused by your comment.
There are examples of Patriarchal blessing recorded in scripture, like Jacob/Israel to each his sons. A typical LDS Patriarchal blessing isn't recorded in the Bible.

The following from the op probably answers my question now that I look at it.

Thanks for the link, dz.

Frank says:
These and other parts of the blessing loomed over me for years, but after accepting my atheism, I was able to slowly shed the control this document held over me. Through the years I have continued to set aside various relics of my religious upbringing.

Do you believe it is a good thing that Frank is now an atheist?

Both atheism and Mormonism lead to the same eternal destiny. Neither is a good option. However, that is not the issue of the thread.

The issue is the false prophecy labeled by Mormons as a "prophetic blessing." Presumptuously speaking in the name of the Lord is dangerous business.

DEUT 18:20 (From LDS site)
But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

It is your assumption that patriarchal blessings are false prophecy however none my patriarchal blessing was false. It has all come to pass. Being a patriarch is a serious calling of God and is not to be taken lightly. By the same token God does not take lightly wrongful judgments about His church:

(New Testament | Matthew 7:1 - 4)

1 JUDGE not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Thomas Monson,

Who is this man, this patriarch, through whom such seership and priesthood power flow? How is he called? The Council of the Twelve Apostles has special responsibility pertaining to the calling of such men. From my own experience I testify that patriarchs are called of God by prophecy. How else could our Heavenly Father reveal those to whom such prophetic powers are to be given?
