Wrong. Drug use defiles the body and that equals defiling the temple of God...smoking is legal but it is "a drug" and is very harmful to the body so it is false that the bible does not address our being healthy. Do you have any idea how many people have died of lung cancer from smoking? Ever heard of Gluttony? Sexually transmitted diseases that destroy our bodies?
Ever hear of condoms? Yes i have heard of lung cancer. My dad died from it. Look, i dont believe that things like smoking defile the temple. Is smoking wise? No, but is it a defilement? Not in my opinion. You can have the last word though.

I'm sorry your father died from lung cancer. I lost a grandfather to it.

Some Christians might . Others , no.

Whatever is not by faith in Jesus is sin.
In Corinth, for those not rightly discerning the body of Christ (fellow believers and the reality of being one body in Christ)

"Many were sick and dying" for taking part in the meals shared without a pure heart.

i.e. they didn't smoke nor drink, they 'did' the same as other Ekklesia taking part in the meals,
but they were sick and dying because of being guilty in their heart/motives, as God Says.

Can Christians smoke and drink beer?
Maybe 1 package of cigarette per day, 1 pint of beer per day.
Is that allowable?

God won't strike you dead for doing it. So in that sense it is allowable.

But is it best for you? I think we know the answer clearly when it comes to smoking. About drinking, that's between you and the Lord. If your conscience permits you clearly to do so, then no one else can tell you no. I cannot do so.

To me, somehow, I feel its a moral issue being a christian.

I know I should quit. I will have to try harder.
You can't try harder (if you are like me). You likely have no control over it. But the Lord does! When I got serious about alcohol consumption, gave up, told Him I had no power, and asked Him to help me stop, He delivered me completely.

It's been 25 years and I've never been to a meeting, labeled myself out of my mouth, or any of that. I'm free. I don't struggle; it's gone (but I'm not stupid and don't go back or hang out at bars either!) SO all things are possible to He who believes. Just wanted to encourage you. I'm not special. He is no respecter of persons. If He has done something to deliver someone else, He will do it for you.

Christians cannot do anything that harms the temple of the Holy spirit(their body) without it being a sin.
Do all to glory God. 1 Cor 10:31-11:1
Holy and acceptable(living sacrifice). Romans 12:1
Absatian from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess 5:22
We are the temple of the Lord. Acts 7:47-50, Acts 17:23-25, 1 Cor 3:8-11, 16-17, 1 Cor 6:13,15, 17-20, 1 John 3:24, 1 John 4:14-15, 2 Cor 6:16.

Smoking damages the temple of the Lord as does getting drunk, drinking in general can give the appearance of evil or could cause a brother to stumble in which case drinking anything at all becomes a sin. We should aspire to be as the bishops of the church and not drink any wine at all(1 Timothy 3:1-3). Drinking and smoking does not Glorify the Lord.

Ask the indwelling God the Holy Spirit!!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of (God) the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

Nope...bad example!

I don't think there is anything wrong with beer if it is not overdone.

As for smoking, yes I think it absolutely defiles one's body/Temple. How could it not? It smells bad, and it pollutes the air. It leads to...death....sometimes in horrible ways. If anyone wants to argue about that, sorry I don't. Sometimes only the Holy Spirit can help us see the obvious.

Also, my training is as speech/language pathologist and while in school our director, an audiologist, drilled it into our heads that for a baby or small child to have even a very minor hearing loss, that can mean learning disabilities down the road. While the child's is developing, the hearing needs to be virtually perfect for the brain to develop the language areas properly. He told us that is why parents have to monitor their children for ear infections so carefully. Guess what is maybe the biggest culprit for giving children ear infections? Second hand smoke! Of course second hand smoke is bad for adults too, sometimes even deadly.

Once I got an awful case of bronchitis. It happened after I passed through a group of smokers hanging around a conference door I had to go through.

If anyone wants to argue about any of that, either, well, this isn't a debate forum and, again, only the Holy Spirit can open our eyes to the obvious - so I won't respond.

But please, if you smoke, keep your fumes away from little children.
