This Sunday is Mother's Day... a time to remember and celebrate our mothers.

QUESTION: Since Mormons believe there is a Heaven Mother as well as a Heavenly Father, how will you celebrate Heavenly Mother this Sunday? Singing "O My Father" is one way, what are others?

LDS HYMN: O My Father
I had learned to call thee Father,
Thru thy Spirit from on high,
But, until the key of knowledge
Was restored, I knew not why.
In the heav'ns are parents single?
No, the thought makes reason stare!
Truth is reason; truth eternal
Tells me I've a mother there
.

And are non-Mormons wrong for rejecting as blasphemy the existence of a Heavenly Mother? I say, that inventing Heavenly Mother makes both reason and Revelation "stare."

I think honouring their Heavenly Mother is unessential in the grand scheme of things. All of the Mormon's attention seems drawn towards their heavenly Father who alone seems to receive worship and primary credit for our existence.

Heavenly Mother seems like an idea born out of the necessity of Mormon Emphasis on the family unit. Since to be married is to be better than to not be married it makes no sense heavenly Father wouldn't have his own wife/wives. We also shouldn't discount the idea there are multiple heavenly Mothers.

In an October 2015 conference address, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland expressed his gratitude for our Mother in Heaven:

"To Mother Eve, to Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel, to Mary of Nazareth, and to a Mother in Heaven, I say, 'Thank you for your crucial role in fulfilling the purposes of eternity.' To all mothers in every circumstance, including those who struggle—and all will—I say, 'Be peaceful. Believe in God and yourself. You are doing better than you think you are. In fact, you are saviors on Mount Zion, and like the Master you follow, your love ‘never faileth’" ("Behold Thy Mother").

Other LDS express gratitude to Heavenly Mom, why not here fellow LDS?

Elder Melvin J. Ballard shared that Heavenly Mother is equal to our Heavenly Father:
"No matter to what heights God has attained or may attain, he does not stand alone; for side by side with him, in all her glory, a glory like unto his, stands a companion, the Mother of his children. For as we have a Father in heaven, so also we have a Mother there, a glorified, exalted, ennobled Mother. That is a startling doctrine, I recognize, to some folk, and yet we ought to be governed by reason in giving consideration to this doctrine which is a revelation from God"
(Sermons and Mission Services of Melvin Joseph Ballard, 205).

LDS may remember her, but there is no worship ceremony or special prayer to her. (Like the Catholic and other eastern religions do for Mary) God the Father is who we worship, only.

You all can laugh and scoff and mock and reject all you wish, but when there comes a time when you find out that there is a Heavenly Mother, you will vomit yourself that you treated her with such disrespect.

We pray and worship the same God that Jesus taught us to pray to and worship.

That was not my question. I worship Jesus, am I an idolater? If He is not God, I am an idolater.

I won't laugh at Mormons (though I find the idea of Heavenly Mother bad) but I would ask, why not give her or possibly the many different heavenly Mothers) worship due to them as Creators of our spiritual existence? Ostensibly without a Heavenly Mother, Heavenly Father is powerless to create life and is thus dependent on his spouse. It takes two to create life, so why does Heavenly Father get all the credit and Heavenly Mother seemingly none or very little when compared to her husband?

Is Patriarchy ingrained into the fabric of reality?

Think about all the smack talk God has to deal with on a daily basis.

Do you think he'd want the missus to get it as well?

Hence why people try to keep her out of things.

You are the example of why.

We have not been given the reason why Heavenly Father has chosen not to reveal her to the world. So I cannot really respond to your question.

Thanks for confirming that some Mormons here are being cagey at the very least who knowingly understand when Christians speak of Jesus being 100% coequal with the Father it includes worship of Jesus.

When a person honors God the Father, they worship him ... right?
