this is a struggle of mine ever since husband got downsized out of a job and took a new job which eventually led to lots of travel

am fine when he's home and in town but when I learn he has a trip coming up, the fear starts even before he travels then when he's away, I sleep little

he has a trip coming up again and last night had a dream that I was in an elevator with others and a child looked up at me and said "you're scared"
in my dream I replied back "yes, I'm scared as can't find my hotel room and can't find my husband"

so know my fear is coming back again, even into my dreams

If I may say so, your love for and devotion to your husband is admirable Christine. May I suggest this: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God that passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus our Lord". "Do not worry" is sometimes a command and comes with His Omnipotence, if we obey. I'll be praying for your family. Peace in Christ:).

I struggle with fears too, mine are rooted in finances. I live on a limited income. I take comfort in the fact that God has always provided for me, even when times were really tough. One of His names is "The LORD Provides" and there is a saying that "it will be provided on the mountain of the LORD" which comes from the story of Abraham, when God asked him to sacrifice his son, his only son, the son of the promise. God provided the sacrifice, once Abraham showed God that he trusted Him.

There are probably some stories like this in the Bible somewhere that would help you too, to find comfort and to know that God has your back and is there for you, always. He even says, "I will never leave you or forsake you." So when your husband is away, remember that God is always b y your side. Reach out to Him.

You mentioned no reason why you should be afraid, so I'd just say that part of life is strengthening our faith.

What is the nature of your fear? Are you worried for his safety? Or for yours? Are there trust issues?

There may be things you can do to help allay some of the anxiety depending on where it's coming from. In the meantime, spend some time with your husband and make a quick memory or two that you can both cherish in his absence.

Best to you both!

rather not say as don't wish to put fears to paper
will say I never sleep more than 3 hrs/day when he's away
whatever the reason, I find Matthew chapter 6 puts my mind at peace, this verse in particular:

Matthew 6:26
“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

Maybe read or listen to that every time you worry and remember that you are a child of God. :)

if he goes on a short trip like 4 days, am good going w/o enough sleep for that long

but when the trips are 12 days or up to 3 wks, it's very, very difficult

it's also much more difficult to pray then because the lack of sleep affects my ability to concentrate/pray

Possibly, he deals with the same fear.

And what you need to do, Christine, is what we all need to do. We need to commit to trusting the LORD, no matter what > unconditional trust.

I'm lucky only in that I fear nothing, except that nothing will happen. 30 more year of boredom is my biggest fear.

Hmmm.... Time to start praying for a new job, even if it's a pay cut, and downsizing the house. I mean, if you wish to continue fighting your fear, then that's simply what you will have to do.

But this is one of those fears that isn't required in life.
You don't have to have a job that involves traveling. And if you are not taking a different job that doesn't require travel, just so you don't lose your income.... I'm not sure money is worth wasting your life away in fear.

Better to get a smaller house, and drive cheaper cars, than live in fear every time he has to travel.

But, if you want go to Church, and have a bunch of women surround you and pray for relief from fear when your husband travels.... that is an option. I hope whatever choice you make, works out for you.
