'Black Panther' Surpasses 'The Avengers' as Highest-Grossing Superhero Movie of All Time in U.S.

With $631 million to date at the domestic box office, Marvel's "Black Panther" has become the highest-grossing superhero movie in the U.S., not adjusted for inflation.

Ryan Coogler's superhero tentpole saw $17 million domestically at 3,370 locations in its sixth weekend, allowing it's domestic total to surpass "The Avengers'" $623 million in 2012. "Black Panther" also recently passed "Star Wars: The Last Jedi's" domestic total of $619 million in 2017.

I'm really amped for Infinity War now.

There is no controversy with the movie. The news story is about a film that is currently the best selling superhero movie of all time ahead of another film that is likely to do similar numbers. Again, what does anything you wrote have to do with the film?

As for the OP, and meanwhile DC's Justice League was one of their biggest failures.

It would be lovely if they could take the folks who run their animated division and give them the live action stuff.

I think I replied in the old MCU thread, but yeah, I saw Thor: Ragnarok and it was excellent. They really could have gone with a serious movie, both with Thor (destruction of Asgard) and Hulk (the idea of him being stuck as Hulk) and I'm glad they didn't. I actually watched Incredible Hulk recently (actually a few of the Phase One films too) and that movie is incredibly bad. Just comparing it to other movies, it's basically a 30 second to 1 minute vignettes between action scenes; Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, they actually construct fully fledged ideas in scenes, even when they do quick jumps. I think I'll rewatch all the movies again before Infinity War, it's a fun ride.

I am simply ignoring those movies, I may get around to Wonder Woman, I've been told it's a good movie, but after Superman and the Cave Troll (which I had no plans of seeing in theaters after the preview), I'll just think of the DC Animated Universe as good enough for me.

It would be lovely if they could take the folks who run their animated division and give them the live action stuff.

I have said this over and over again, they just need to make Bruce Timm the producer and let him put something together. He's the reason why people have fond memories of DC (he still has the best version of Lex Luthor I've seen).

I think part of it is they've been able to change things up, they don't simply present the same old story repeatedly with different faces. I think what Marvel has done is made movies that are from different genres, but they are superheroes in the backdrop. Ant-Man is a comedic caper film, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a spy thriller. The movies are stylistically different, which makes the audience more apt to return for other films. I thought several times that certain movies would not do well, and that would spell the end (Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man), but I've been surprised at how good the films are.

I don't think we can call this a fad, we're already pushing 20 years here (counting 1998's Blade as a starting point).

It's fine, but way overrated. I don't have a problem with people finding inspiration where they can, but I don't really get why so many women found this movie empowering. WW was a pretty ditz born with superpowers who just sort of superpowered her way through a bunch of mostly-silly fight sequences. If I were looking for inspiration from a tough female, I'd take any of the Alien rehashes before WW.

Sorry, I've been avoiding this thread because I just really don't even like to hear about any superhero movies anymore. It's all anyone talks about when movies are brought up and I just can't help but hate them all (the movies, not the people). I've been out of the loop for so long now and there's so many of them that I can't keep track anymore and see no use in trying.

I guess for me it started with the original Spiderman movie with Toby Maguire. I know there were others before even counting all the old Batman movies but they just have a different quality to them. I guess it's mostly nostalgia but I can watch those again and again and the movies we have today don't even interest me enough to watch them once.

I hate to put things down without giving them a chance but I'm so tired of hearing about a new one every couple months and since I don't go to the movies often as it is, I just try to shut out as much as I can.

When you are as far behind the story as you are it's pretty understandable. I mean even the base story of what's going on ie the whole infinity war thing would take about 10 hours of watching movies to get.
