My son was punished at school for talking about Jesus!

Today, I withdrew my 1st grade son from the public school system and put him in private school. He has high functioning autism and absolutely loves Jesus so much that he gets upset when it is not his turn to pray at dinner time. His favorite book is his children's Bible and he insists on reading it every day. All this, of course, before public school.

Over the last few months I began to notice that he wasn't as insistent on prayer and did not want to read bible stories. Finally, at dinner time, he told me that he didn't want to pray. So I asked him why, the answer shocked me.

It started around Christmas time when all the kids in class were talking about Santa and Frosty the Snowman. My son told his friends that Christmas was about Jesus and began to share the Gospel. As a result, he was punished by the administrators and he was told that he was being offensive.

Eventually, the other kids in the class started picking on him because he shared Bible stories. When we talked to the school they told us, "Well, if he would just stop talking about Jesus so much then the kids will stop picking on him."

I am absolutely furious that this has happened. So I immediately withdrew him from the public school system and enrolled him into a Christian private school. My question is, "Has anyone else had similar issues with the public school system attacking your child's faith?" If so, how did you handle it?

God bless your son; even at his early age he is indeed proving what Paul said in 2 Timothy 3.12: "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."

I don't have any children brother, but I'd say Amen to your move. There are many godly schools out there. Honestly, this isn't shocking to me. I was gagged while speaking at a Public school in Blacksburg, Virginia, many years ago. My prayers for your son.

Good job on removing him out of the public school system! We didn't remove our children because of faith but because of poor treatment because of our lower functioning autism son. We then homeschooled. A decision I do NOT regret at all. You need to do what is in the best interest of your child and GOD BLESS the parents who take this action so that their child can flourish.

I also sent my son to a faith based private school for his elementary grades. After that I put him in the public school system. I believed that by the time he was in 6th grade that his faith was strong enough to understand that not all believed as he did, but understood that majority belief really has no bearing on truth. It actually saddens me when I see fellowship services around Christmas time providing the story of the truth about Jesus, but many so often feel some importance in bringing Santa in for the 'fun' of Christmas.

If you ask them why they would prostitute the fellowship's celebration of the birth of our Savior with such nonsense, they will often refer to 'trying to be like the world' as their motive. Something along the lines that if they have Santa, then the lost might come. I rather imagine that's how Israel fell into idolatry apart from the one true and living God so much in their history. In order to make their separateness less of an issue, they adopted the world.

In my case, refused to put down anything as to evolution was real. Was an A student, not sure if even missed any science questions up to this point in school. The teacher taught the class on this lie, then I went up to her desk to tell her that the things she had said were wrong, because God created everything after its kind. She told me that is a theory. Told her that it is fact. Told her that if she said that type of stuff to the class again, then I would stand up and tell what the Bible says. She did, and I did.
There is more as to what happened, and then reactions even over the years by others. I was not saved yet, as to repented of my sins -born again. That would come when was 15, but had gone to church ever since was very young.

I remember counseling my son that if he ever had to take some earth history or foundations of biology class, that he'd have to give the right answers to pass the test, but know in his heart that none of it was the truth. When he was going into his senior year of high school, he had to have a science credit and it pretty much had to be a biology credit. Now, I don't have anything against biology in explaining to us the here and now of how biological systems work. Often however, they start with some evolutionary theory of how biological creatures came to exist. Just as I have no problem with science that teaches us how things work in the here and now, I'm fairly well convicted that when they start extrapolating a lot of what they see now to the past, they often get it wrong. Anyway, and I saw it as a blessing from the Lord, his chemistry teacher said that if he'd take another year of chemistry that he could get him out of his biology requirement.

Many people say that a lot of young people lose their faith when they go to college and a lot of that is because of the teachings of the sciences.

God bless this little man. My heart breaks for our children in public schools today. I am proud that you took the initiative and moved him out of there. This is a sad picture of our "last days" society in my opinion.

He is one of the most loving and compassionate children I know and I am not just saying that because he is my son. Due to his medical condition, he was so confused as to why his friends became so hostile towards him. It really concerns me as to what the other kids are learning at home that made them so hostile towards Christians.

Obviously not the bible and about Jesus that's for sure. Kids are so confused now days because, "IMO" they live in a world of animation, This by staying on their cell phones and playing violent video games.
I think parents should make them stop this garbage at least once a week and look at the real world once in a while. Take em camping, Buy some chickens or rabbits and give them a little responsibility. IDK just make em get off the couch and see the beautiful creation that God has divinely and "realistically" made instead of always living in a world of false graphics. Sorry for the rant.

What do you think of churches that have a movie night when cartoons are shown on the church lawn? Serve popcorn, but no Christian theme is being portrayed by the movie.

To be honest, I don't know that that is the best way to approach a "Church" gathering. I guess if it was a clean cartoon there really isn't anything wrong with it? but; it would seem much better to me, to have a "Christ" centered movie or a christian movie with a good testimony for them to glean something useful. IMO

I think a movie night is a great concept though. Especially around poor areas where families with several kiddos can enjoy a movie without breaking the bank and have a clean safe place to come fellowship with others . :]
