Certainly yes.
Wouldn't you first want to know how severely he was possessed?
And also, how he came to be possessed?
Let's not forget this was a 19 year old kid / man.
Do we know the background?

There are so many things to think and pray about after a tragedy like this. The topic I'm bringing up here I do not view as the first or necessarily even most important issue related to this shooting. Certainly things like praying for the families of victims and healing of the injured and emotional healing for all who were there is more important.

But this issue is also important. It has been reported in the news that the shooter claimed to hear voices in his head and some have identified these voices as being demonic.

This raises some discussion topics.

What do you think about this?
Yes, demons are active in everyone's life to some extent.
How might demons gain such influence in a person's life?
When ever we choose self, we choose the satanic nature.
Can Christians be oppressed and influenced by demons?
Yes when we disobey God we open the door for influence.
What can we do about it?
Obey God and be alert because even in obedience demons still look for ways to harrass us.

Your best bet is to find a local church that deals in deliverance. Vineyard & Assemblies of God are good choices.
I attended a Vineyard Church many, many years ago and personally would recommend to people to go someplace else plus to my knowledge there are not many left -- next to none correct?

They do the slain in the spirit and the tongues and all the other things that go along with it too much music and not enough of a solid sermon.

But, to their credit they have written a lot of good Christian music.

I don't know why you are so surprised at this shooting. According to the news it is the 18th this year and there have been nearly 300 since 2013.

You have banned God from your schools.
Absolutely.

Also the land is filled with the blood of the innocents through millions of abortions. Those human sacrifices via abortion have poured blood guiltiness all over the land, and that blood guiltiness has granted Satan and his demons untold levels of sovereignty over the children of the nation.

Lets be perfectly clear, sacrificing your children via abortion, is exactly the same as the heathen making their children pass through the fire to the god Molech in the OT.

Lev18v21“ ‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.

2Kings23v10He also defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter pass through the fire for Molech.

None of that is relevant. He knows he was hearing and obeying voices. We have been here so many times before and continuing to pretend those voices are not demons is utterly foolish.

The church is very guilty in its belittling of the demonic influence on people. If the church obeyed the commandment of Jesus and got on with casting the demons out and setting people free, then it might be able to answer the psychobabblers who put Satan's activity down to chemical imbalances etc.

Sadly, these events give massive power to those who hate God and blame him for not preventing it.

I agree, but it can be both too, working together even.
But then there's the fact that many people are not Christians anyway, so it doesn't matter to them what a church teaches.
Sadly, these events give massive power to those who hate God and blame him for not preventing it.
Yes, but even the saints in Heaven and Christians on earth aren't happy with the evil that is allowed within God's creation.
It's "the problem of evil" people struggle with.

Seemed like the Killer was Schizophrenic! Many people hear voices and DON'T shoot people so he isn't off the hook.
When people talk about demons on this site the admin tends to block you but demons do affect people and have them doing crazy things.
You can be a christian and hear demons.
We all hear voices whether it is ourselves, GOD, or satan it is what we do with those voices that makes the difference. ( 2 corinthians 10:5 )

It might be good to consider how the things we believe and teach when taught with subtle little errors contributes to the mind set of these school-shooters. There seems to be a good reason that this occurs predominantly in conservative Christian areas.

Of course they're not happy about evil in God's creation, but God has given power to the saints to drive the demons out. Sadly most churches deny the relevance of demons today, or insist they have no effect on Christians, as can be witnessed on many posts on CF.

The net result is that Christians are shockingly ignorant of the power of the demonic realm in the affairs of man.

Being that Christians are the only ones who can do anything about demons, and they abdicate that responsibility, its hardly surprising that evil happen.

mark Corbett,

1. First, a person is oppressed by demons.
Second, a person is obsessed by what the demons oppressed them with.
Third, a person is possessed when completely controlled by the demons.
We can see this in the maniac of Gadarenes in Jesus days.

2. The boy in Florida would still go through the same principles even if he doesn’t seem to quite fit the maniac from gadarenes.

3. The root of all evil is sin and the tempter.

4. He had motive of hate and jealousy against certain people
and schools. He entertained being a school shooter and was obsessed with this and guns among other things. This opens the door of influence to demonic spirits. He did this until he couldn’t help himself and went through with the act.

5. Christians, likewise can be oppressed with demonic spirits and be obsessed with whatever they are obsessed with. This is shown by strongholds that Paul talks about that God is mighty to pulling down when a person believes. The imaginations have to be cast down etc.
Now, can a Christian be demon possessed?
Yes and no. What I mean by that is that a Christian can backslide and be carried away by different winds of doctrine. This means if they stay in the condition then give into demonic spirits fully they would become demon possessed.
A true Christian in the state of grace that is serving God an battling by faith and relying on God to be delivered cannot be demon possessed. The key word is the difference of the word “be” and “ become”.

6. The church as a whole has to wage war in the heavenlies against the demonic enemies such as in Ephesians 6.
It is the same principle as warring over your children which I hav done before.
Demons have certain territories they rule over, some more or over. I could tell this when I went overseas in the region of where the 10/40 window was located.

7. Christians have to intercede for each other cause we’re on the same team.

8. Christian and non- Christians both can be more aware of red flags and other verbal warning signs etc.
There were plenty of warning signs in Florida with the kids and even a guy relating to the FBI.
As far as why he fell through the cracks will have to be addressed and remedied.

9. Mental health is like any sickness as far as the root. Another words all these stem from the fall of man back in the garden.
Mental health many times will come from the trend of OOP; Oppressed, Obssessed and possessed can come through Satanic worship or mind enhancing drugs and pills etc.
Anywhere Satan can gain a foothold he will.

[for me anyway]
What do you think about this? Truly evil and dumb spirits work abundantly in those that put their trust into the hands and power of sin, and not in God: nevertheless to willfully and deliberately sin is voluntary, just as it is voluntary to repent; we must own our sins and repent, and not suppose that we are not responsible for our sins when we choose not to repent.
How might demons gain such influence in a person's life? by not repenting, but preferring sin over righteousness.
Can Christians be oppressed and influenced by demons? all the days of our life true and faithful Christians must battle against sin though faith in God, knowing that faith comes by submitting to and relying upon the Word of God; likewise by denying our own will, lest we be found double-minded, knowing that a double-minded person is unstable in all their ways: contrariwise others which profess Christ yet do not know Him, but are in the way of a superficial no cost faith wherein they are deceived into believing that nothing is required of them of the Lord; these such can easily be swayed by sin, because their foundation is upon the sand.
What can we do about it? Convey to the receptive ear that we must learn to not think above that which is written, so we may keep ourselves away from exaggeration and over-estimation; so that it may be fulfilled in us that we do indeed cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, to the end we may bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

I'm a skeptical person and I experienced a demon twice. It was something that I know that I know was real and freaked me out seriously. Nobody could ever convince me otherwise. My research after such events have persuaded me that what that kid had talking to him was most definitely a possible demon. They go after to possess intermittently the most vulnerable and weak in society. Many specific accounts, all separate, have verified my experience as well as Biblical findings.
As a young man I was a member of a particular denomination. I won't name it now but the group is a cessationist group and for some reason people who reject the gifts of the Holy Spirit seem to always dismiss the activity of the demonic because they feel that demons were once present in the past so Christ and the Apostles could deal with those demons. The senior minister at the church where I was a member had a charismatic son and his son made regular visits to an area university to do Bible studies with students there. One time the senior minister accompanied his son and they encountered a student who was filled with demonic spirits. From the pulpit the minister told about this encounter with evil. He said that as he and his son were praying for this student the most gut-wrenching screams he had ever encountered in his life came from this student. Finally the student had been delivered.

I have personally encountered such people. They cursed God and they praised Satan right to my face. And they spit in my face. Each time I've not been allowed to pray for the person voluntarily but they just walked away. A demonic spirit cannot stand the presence of someone who is opposing them in the name of Jesus Christ so they want to flee. Mockers will mock.

We have victory over sin and the devil in Jesus Christ. We are no longer behind a wall which divides us from God. But while we Christians have victory in Him, we need to be reminded that we are still waiting for a new heavens and a new Earth where righteousness dwells with Christ ruling over His people on this new Earth. The current Earth which we occupy still has a curse. We are still affected by death and disease and Satan's influence has not been fully eliminated. We should know better than others why these things still exist. People who are led by the Spirit are not the same as those who are not led by the Spirit.

Younger members of the church are often led astray by charismatics as they listen to their peers rather than experience leaders.

This is actually the most relevant point to all this. The continued increase of these types of things, not only school shootings, but just horrific murder in general in this country is demonic. We have a society that rejects God, rejects the gospel of Jesus and rejects Godly morals, ethics, and principles. We have been drilled with the satanic mantra of "do as though wilt" ideology lead by the left for at least 30 years strong now. We have normalized deviant sexual behavior. We have legalized drug use. We have glorified death and violence in movies.....essentially the body of Christ has been sidelined in fear of being labeled intolerant and unloving. This is what we see now, an increased demonic activity, increased demonically influence and even possession and this is the fruit.

Experience is no where the measuring stick we are to use in the bible. The problems is sound doctrine. You can have an experienced hireling behind the pulpit, that means nothing other than he has fooled people for a long time because they don't know their bible.

I suspect we all agree that even if there was demonic influence, that does not absolve the shooter of guilt.

God works to bring good out of evil. One tiny way (among many) in which God could use this tragic evil event for some good is if it prompts some people to seek greater freedom for themselves and others from demonic influence and if it prompts some Christians to study the Bible again to see what it teaches on this topic.

But let's be honest. Society as a whole especially the foaming left is not seeking God out of this or self reflecting to find answers. They are blaming guns and white supremacist and Trump. The demonic has a stronghold over their minds that they are incapable of seeing the spiritual nature of these events.

Younger members of the church are often led astray by charismatics as they listen to their peers rather than experience leaders.

Charismatics come in as many varieties as there are varieties of Baptists. Most of the home-grown religious groups that we have in this country were started by people who came here from the United Kingdom and the legalistic church groups which existed there in late 1700's, and these new groups have continued to splinter and divide over the past two-hundred plus years.

I suggest you be careful about your indictment of charismatics. Jesus said that the sin that was unpardonable was the blaspheming of the Holy Spirit and calling what He does an evil work. Don't fall off a cliff and land where you're too far down to get back up.

Charismatic people are merely people who agree with the Apostle Paul. Paul taught about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He spoke in tongues quite often. Apostles could do nothing that the Holy Spirit did not empower them to do. The Holy Spirit is God! I sure don't want to be part of the God-denying business. God gives one who is led by the Spirit a discernment to know what is from Him and what is not.

Rom 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"
Rom 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God

You added the last part. It does not say calling what the Holy Spirit does as an evil work.

We are told to discern. This is the trick of the devil to allow him to operate and get a foothold creating a false fear of calling evil evil or counterfeit just that. The unpardonable sin is to deny who Jesus is and that what he did was of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said the Holy Spirit testifies to who HE IS. Jesus did not say nor does it say anywhere in the bible that if we discern something is false we are blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

So to say when someone says hey that guy shaking on the floor and barking like a dog is NOT of the Holy Spirit that is NOT blaspheming the Holy Spirit. That is not the testimony of Jesus.
