Hey everyone.
The Wife and I have made a decision for me to go back to school. I need to upgrade some classes before I even get into university. We have a 3 year old and one on the way, which makes this very hard.
I make really good money right now, but I do not have a University education. I think it will be a good move, though it will be hard living for years. I want to bring a better sense of security to my family.
I am nervous and a little bit scared to say the least. Changing my families way of life is probably harder on me that it is them. But, I feel I need to do this.

Not sure why I'm sharing this, when I know what I'm doing anyway. Maybe for some positive reinforcement. haha. Am I making the right choice?

I went back to school at a later age myself and it was the best decision I made to help my family long term looking back. It was hard, the old saying that anything worth anything is never easy rings true. It is especially hard to take care of a family in the midst of this. Just make sure you make time for the Lord and your wife as well. Your walk and your family are most important and be careful not to neglect either. Don't be afraid to be less aggressive with your schedule if you find it is too much. The temptation will be to overload yourself to finish sooner but this can come at a high price. While it may take longer to achieve your goals by reducing your load it may make it more bearable. Pray for wisdom, strength, grace, patience and love for your family. Pray the Lord holds you close.

Thank you for your kind words Timothy. This is going to be tough but doable. I'll need to remember to make more time for the Lord and my family. This is all for the greater good, though it will take many years to complete, the end result will be beautiful!
Thanks again!
Cheers bud.

I make really good money right now, but I do not have a University education.

If you make really good money right now then why mess that up? That's not intelligent, in my humbled opinion. Many successful people in business don't even have a college education and quite frankly you don't need one. If you go to school, all you will do is put yourself in debt because I'm pretty sure you won't have any grants or scholarships to use. You're basically paying to go to school for a piece of paper that says...

" I went to school for this many years "

Understand, there is no real guarantee that you will even land a job that caters to the degree that you attain. What's certain is the money, GOOD MONEY, that you're making right now. I tend to enjoy the phrase/saying

If it's not broke, don't fix it.

College is a good move for a person that's fresh out of High School. College offers that introduction to adult hood while at the same time allowing that young adult to learn what they want to do with their life. Money that is well spent. You, however, are 32 with a family. This is not a wise decision. You are already living your life. You've made decisions that has involved humans via a wife and child that lean on you for support. You going to college now? Isn't a smart move, even though your wife agrees with the decision. But..

If the wife doesn't have a problem with it? I guess you could go with some sort of peace of mind? However, there's a child involved that doesn't no what's really going on. All the child knows is a sudden change in life style and not seeing the father as much.

Just some things to consider.

Benefit: If your current job dries up (and many do these days), you'll have a degree to your name as well as your previously accrued experience.

Drawback: Cost. There's paying for the classes in and of themselves, AND if you're not earning money, you're not saving additional money for retirement. Then there's paying off the student debt after you're done.

My husband, a Military veteran, is paid to go to school to get his degree. The vocational program won't place him in a good job until he earns that degree. So school is like his "job". We put our baby boy in daycare because I work a 9-5, and hubby went to class pretty much on the same schedule as my work this past semester- M-F, except he got a half-day on Friday. Our little baby thrived in daycare, learned how to play with other babies and is not afraid of people he doesn't know now because he was around so many. My husband studied mostly at school during the hours the baby was at the daycare, then on the weekends I would take the baby off his hands often out of the house and sometimes excused hubby from church.
He got 4 A's and an A-. He also met lots of people who want to be baby sitters.
We didn't have to pay for a website to send us sitters.
10/10 would recommend.

Edit: my husband is 32 also. And I'm 31.
