Understanding the fake historian behind America’s religious right
With a tie-breaking vote cast by Vice President Mike Pence, the Senate confirmed longtime religious-right figurehead and outgoing (and unpopular) Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback to be the US’s ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom on Wednesday.

Christian figures like Rev. Johnnie Moore, who served on the president’s evangelical outreach board during Trump’s campaign, praised Brownback as a “consistent, vocal, competent and impassioned advocate for these issues.” Groups like the Human Rights Campaign and Lambda Legal, on the other hand, castigated the vote, citing Brownback’s anti-LGBTQ record as both a governor and a former member of Congress.

But, less obviously (and no less importantly), he’s a major supporter of David Barton, the much-criticized Christian nationalist historian whose deeply skewed perspective on American history has been used by a number of Republican politicians to bolster a false narrative of America as a historically Christian nation.
tulc(MAGA by pushing a fake "America history"?)

Sweet! When people start with Ad hominem - Wikipedia it sounds like we must be on the right track.
tulc(appreciates the confirmation bro!)
Except you do this all the time too, so whatever. I don't know who this guy is, never heard of him, nor do I care. Just posting from Vox and the other nonsensical, highly biased sites destroys your credibility. If I posted something from Breitbart, you'd say the same thing (and have said the same thing!) Practice what you preach.

Of course, it’s worth saying that all accounts of history — left-wing or right-wing, secular or Christian — can also be, in a sense, a form of propaganda. Any narrative of America’s foundation will, of course, be mediated by the specific biases and concerns of the teller. (Historian Fea does a great job pointing out that the secular counterpart to the Barton narrative, that all founding fathers were non-Christian, deist secularists, is also wrong).
Understanding the fake historian behind America’s religious right

If you don't know what the 'Seven Mountain' Dominionest movement is you might want to check it out. I didn't know until the past election. Not only politicians like Ted Cruz are involved in it but Word of Faith preachers such as Kenneth Copeland, etc.
The idea of men trying to run a theocracy is not a good plan, imo. I believe I am in good company with people like Rev. Roger Williams when founding the colony of RI and George Washington.
When the church at Rome had too much control over the government of the Roman Empire, innocent people died. When the Church of England controlled kings and queens, innocent people died.
I don't want to live in a country that looks like a Muslim country. And I fully believe that when a group of men get too much power, unGodly things happen, just like what happened to Rev. Roger Williams when living in colonial MA.

More biased news not surprised. Both parties are guilty of "fake" American history. From link below:

Since President Donald Trump emerged on the political scene, Democrats have relentlessly challenged the truthfulness of his statements.

Ridiculing Trump's so-called "alternative facts," the Democrats have some "alternative facts" of their own.

Take this statement from the "Our History" page of the DNC website:"For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights, health care, Social Security, workers' rights, and women's rights."

Any student of history can immediately identify why this statement is not only misleading but in some respects an outright lie.

False advertising: How the Democrats attempt to rewrite history

So spoke President William J. Clinton in 1995 of a man was among the 99 Democrats in Congress to sign the “Southern Manifesto” in 1956. (Two Republicans also signed it.) The Southern Manifesto declared the signatories’ opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Educationand their commitment to segregation forever. Fulbright was also among those who filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That filibuster continued for 83 days.

Speaking of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, let’s review (since they don’t teach this in schools): The percentage of House Democrats who supported the legislation? 61 percent. House Republicans? 80 percent. In the Senate, 69 percent of Democrats voted yes, compared with 82 percent of Republicans. (Barry Goldwater, a supporter of the NAACP, voted no because he thought it was unconstitutional.)

Whitewashing the Democratic Party’s History

What was even more striking, at least to me, is the statement, on the DNC’s “Our History” section, asserting that the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote came about “under the leadership of Democratic President Woodrow Wilson.”

As a historian who writes about women’s suffrage, I had to smile when I read this. Actually Wilson fought against women’s right to vote harder and longer than almost any other politician of his day.

Who led the fight for women’s right to vote — Democrats or Republicans?

(nothing to say about the OP but will try and distract by attacking someone else)
If you feel the need to discuss the history of the Democrat Party shouldn't you start a thread about that instead of posting about it in a thread not about it's history?
tulc(see's we've had the "ad hominen" response and the "try and distract by attacking someone else" response wonder what will be third?)

So tulc is complaining that a person was chosen who thinks America was founded on Christian values? OK.. Wow.
The problem isn't "someone believes America was founded on Christian values" (it wasn't) the problem is they picked someone who thinks Dave Barton knows what he's talking about. which is what the OP was about.
tulc("America founded on Christian values"?)

Never heard of him.
He used to be huge a couple of years back, you could barely post a thread around here when one of our conservative friends wouldn't post something by him. Then people started realizing he wasn't even sort of an historian.
tulc(see's he may be trying for a comeback of sorts) :D

When you have a discussion especially about politics regarding the far right it's only fair to bring up the left as to get the whole picture on the topic of rewriting history which was your point. The other side of the picture is the Democratic party. You OP said "pushing a fake "America history" apart of getting to a fake "American history" we need to see both sides of the picture.

Now this is not talking about a person or place. We are talking about politics and fake "American history". So to focus only on one party on this would be immature as both had apart on the subject of fake history. Not to mention the Republicans and Democratic Party have been next to each other and challenging each other making our history, as well as our fake history.

Also pointing out you usually only show a one-sided picture with biased news sources.

Except the OP isn't about the history of the Republican Party is it? I thought it was about one guy (and a couple of others mentioned by name) liking someone who's been shown to be wrong about American history consistently. So, while you can try and make this about something else I'll just keep pointing out that that doesn't actually address the OP.
tulc(just thought he'd point that out) :)
