Hi, Brothers and sisters!

I am new in Christ and while reading the Gospel, I became curious about the river of Jordan after seeing it on a map in my Bible and noticing that it was in the middle east.

I noticed that the river has been polluted with sewage regardless of it's holiness and wondered why.

I became more bewildered and wondered why most of the wars of the world have happened in the middle east or in areas surrounding holy places of history.

I was drawn to Christ by noticing that man (in the media, society, and politics) are doing and encouraging the EXACT opposite of the positive wisdom we have accumulated. The world is literally becoming wicked.

I am very new to this and noticed that my church (or ANY church that I have ever been to) has ever preached about what is really going on though I feel very strongly that something is happening and has been!

Can anyone bring me up to speed on what is going on from a biblical perspective and why we don't hear about it in the church?

What should we REALLY be doing as saints to play our role in God's plan. Which evidently is going to happen

Hi, Brothers and sisters!

I am new in Christ and while reading the Gospel,
Welcome to the family of Christ and welcome to Christian Forums!

I became curious about the river of Jordan after seeing it on a map in my Bible and noticing that it was in the middle east.

Yes the river Jordan is important geographically and spiritually for Israelites and Christians. For us it is where some of the first calls to baptism occurred by John the Baptist. It was also the river the Israelites crossed to reach the Promised Land after sojourning in the desert for 40 years. Once they crossed the river Joshua read the entire Law to everyone.

I noticed that the river has been polluted with sewage regardless of it's holiness and wondered why.
Several modern nations border the Jordan. Some are not as developed as others and tend to dump their trash and sewage in the river.

As you get deep into the Old Testament you will see why. Just about every ancient empire from Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Greco-Macedonian and Roman empire have conquered what we now call Palestine or Israel. Some of those conflicts locally continue from thousands of years ago. The Jews were expelled from the land by Rome (not all but most) in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. Since then Rome ruled there, Byzantine empire, various Muslim dynasties and eventually the British. In 1948 the British abdicated their mandate of Palestine allowing Jews to return to form the nation of Israel. Since then there has been conflicts and wars between Jews and Muslims.

I was drawn to Christ by noticing that man (in the media, society, and politics) are doing and encouraging the EXACT opposite of the positive wisdom we have accumulated. The world is literally becoming wicked.
Yes our gracious God opens our eyes and ears and heart to His Gospel. We then see the world for what it is, fallen and sinful.

Can anyone bring me up to speed on what is going on from a biblical perspective and why we don't hear about it in the church?
Your church probably avoids politics which is good IMO. They should still warn and inform us of the times we live in. For example, Matthew 24. Jesus said there would be signs and I believe we live in the time of the birth pangs.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this information! I appreciate your insight and you taking the time to fill me in. When you say "the time of the growth pangs" what exactly do you mean?
