Sorry that I wrote a book; I simply wanted to be as descriptive, and as accurate and transparent as possible.

I have had the same experience. Often I would walk away shaking my head at the words and attitudes of other members (not that I was perfect by any means). God didn't call the best of mankind into the church, and we must always consider that. We must also consider that God allows a lifetime to repent, grow, and become converted. We are all in different places along the way. Patience and forbearance are always needed among and between brethren.

That said there are 'tares' within the church. Some may be obvious, some not.

I do not understand why people in the church behave in the above ways. No matter what church you go to, it's all the same.

Every church is different. Even within denominations, some are very cold,
some are very warm and inviting. Female leadership can make a big difference.

I wouldn't worry about what people say or do around me in church. Go to the house of God to worship His name in songs and prayers, renew the spirit and take home the things you can relate to that has been preached. Don't examine things too much, let your spirit be still. Accept what is fruitful to you, the rest doesn't matter, let it be.

I have that problem with my relatives. I don't drink but every Christmas they expect me to come to their house while they drink and make crude jokes. First of all I don't even think we should be celebrating Christmas and second of all the bible tells me not to associate with drunkards or adulterers.

But...you'd *better* agree; you'd better be a part of the herd! If not, you will be excluded from social events, etc. You'll find yourself outside of the "inner circle."
.
Sunday Services are not a place for secular News Commentary, you can get that from the TV any day of the week.

Neither is it a social club, the Fellowship is after the Service itself is completed.

Any Church which is a clique isn't worth the time you spend there, if your not part of the happenings, your on the outside.

But with the church I am disgusted. I am weary of the silliness, and the lack of grace and forbearance.

Sounds to me, it is way past the time you found another Church to attend.
and as far as Heb.3:13 I don't think it applies to you, but it surly sounds as though it applies to the Church your now attending.

Now, with your reference to Luke 19;12-27

This Parable is about Jesus going to His Father to receive a Kingdom, giving authority to His servants the Pharisee, Sadducee, over the Jewish People (Nation).
The People did not want Him to Rule over them.
Upon His return from receiving His Kingdom and as the Messiah, He called His Servants to give Him an accounting with regard to the condition of the Jewish People and Religion He had left in their charge.
Finding they were not diligent.
He said to them.

Luke 19:26,27
26) For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
27) But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

The Kingdom was taken from the Jews and given to the Gentiles.

Rom. 10:20
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

It must be understood, all of the Parables of Jesus were ont about anything but "The Kingdom of God (Heaven)"

Churches have taught for generations that the speak about The Christian Church, or Christians in general, but they forget, Jesus was only sent to Israel.

Mat. 15:24
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Therefore everything He said was directed to them, not the Church.

Let me assure you, you have your Talent's, and will gain more at his return, your doing just fine, follow your heart and the Spirit.

Appreciate your contribution :). At the time I lived in a part of NY where there were very few churches. Now I am in a different State, but a lot of folks aren't interested in getting to know people in a way that's more than casual.

The point I was making about Luke 19: everyone is given a set of gifts by the Spirit, thus does everyone have a responsibility to use the gifts and talents they are given. If not, it's a sin.
.
What types of gifts are we given by the Spirit?

1 Cor 5:11: "But now I have written to you not to keep company ***with anyone named a brother,*** who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person." (emphasis mine)

Are your relatives church going folks? Do they identify as a brother or sister in the Lord?

They go to a 'church' I will refrain from naming the denomination, suffice to say it is very liberal. They had a lesbian pastor for a while.

I know by your first reply that you know :)

Eph 4:11-13: "And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ"

Now see I went to a Calvary church for a couple years and I had a long talk with one of the associate pastors about this very verse. To me it seems ridiculous to assume it applies to roles in the church as if you get assigned a position based on your 'gift' because I guarantee you most people would be determined to have the gift of giving.

Yes I am jaded.

I'm sorry that you've had a similar experience. Truly.

It isn't even a matter of God calling the best of mankind into a church; people are downright silly, in analyzing others. For as you said: not only does the sanctification process take time, each believer is challenged in very different ways, and in varying strengths.

The widow put two mites into the offering plate, but she put more than they all, because she had little to give.

I once heard a Pastor say that he challenges himself by competing with himself - seeing if he can go a day or two without sinning. In this I don't think the Pastor was bragging; I am sure that he was sincere.

He was a Country preacher; Lord knows what he ran into daily. Pastoring a church is never easy, but he came from a rural town. At the time, I lived just outside of NYC. Two different animals; two different sets of challenges.

But using 1 John 1:7 as a justification to pick and choose who's acceptable and who isn't...I have had more than my fill.

When I was a young believer, I once thought a brother was inconsistent in his walk, because of his spotty church attendance.

(Until I learned that he was an over the road truck driver)

***

I hope that your situation was resolved, and I hope you were not left disgusted as well.

No continuing problem, just another 'life lesson'.

I like the 'giving gift'. Saves you from going to all those meetings, work on your day off, etc.

I was a member of an archery club whose members could volunteer work time on the facility for reduced annual dues. So many opted for the higher dues (and no work) that the club suspended the offer and insisted that membership include so many hours of work, lest the whole thing fall into disrepair.
