Knowing all the scriptures that say that Jesus will come as a thief in the night it would seem totally contrary to all those scriptures if Jesus had said yea I will return on mm/dd/year

truly it makes no sense why Jesus would go against his previous teaching that was to say that he will return unexpectedly by telling when he would return

So a thief would know of his coming, to enter the unsuspecting home owner's house, in order to catch the home owner off guard, right?

So Jesus would not say that he never knew and to play ignorant of his coming, rather the master of the house he is, would instruct the doorman keeping watch, to be watchful of the hour.

The hour must be the hour of Christ's choosing when he declares it the end. After all it is the bridegroom who declares when his wedding day is, when he goes forth from his chamber.

Hence the saying.....

Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. (Joel 2:16)

my point is to say that since Jesus taught that he comes as a thief in the night , it represents that people will not know when he comes - they are intentionally being told you will not know when it happens - just be ready for when it happens
we are to live each and every day with the expectation that it could be the day Jesus comes

Since Jesus IS God of course he knows , but how can he tell people they are not supposed to know without causing a big discussion on why would he not tell what he knew , sometimes it is best to not reveal the answer until the appropriate time
as the teaching of the ancient Jewish wedding , it takes a very long time compared to today's weddings , and the culture of those biblical times it was well known that only the father knows the time - so Jesus uses that as a way to relate
Surely people who have children have put off giving an answer to some things when children ask because it is just not the right time .....birds and bees ..... why do parents respond with the birds and the bees when their children ask where do babies come from..... why do parents tell them a stork delivers babies ....because it is not the right time for them to understand the depth of the topic

Correct!

we are to live each and every day with the expectation that it could be the day Jesus comes

Absolutely!

Since Jesus IS God of course he knows , but how can he tell people they are not supposed to know without causing a big discussion on why would he not tell what he knew , sometimes it is best to not reveal the answer until the appropriate time

Very wise move and true at the same time.

as the teaching of the ancient Jewish wedding , it takes a very long time compared to today's weddings , and the culture of those biblical times it was well known that only the father knows the time - so Jesus uses that as a way to relate

Yes, he may have used the generic association to a Jewish Wedding, in order to palm off anyone wanting to press him further, hence discouraging any further inquiry into the matter.

You have a valid point!

That summarises why the hour is kept from the discernment of human beings, yet it is an hour of Christ's choosing when he comes to call up his bride.

Personally my concern @seventysevens is how some are using this phrase to invent a totally different narrative to what we both agree upon. Some are suggesting that since the Son doesn't know the hour, then people ought not inquire of the hour at all, nor to live as if the hour is right at the door so to speak, especially in these times, where it is the right time for the members of his body, his Church to inquire and to understand as the symbol of the five wise virgins, as knowledge is increasing exponentially.

So in conclusion, every generation has been the recipients of the hour, because it was expected of them to declare their hour of concern. Yet the hour to usher in the end, may be at our door, yet if we don't be watchful like the Church was during the last 2000 years, in the many last hours across those entire generations, then we become complacent and therefore are all too ready and willing to embrace the sins of the times!

When the Church becomes relaxed of the vigilency of the hour, then that would be indicative of the falling away into the strong delusion of peace and safety and that everything is as it was and is therefore ok, yet nothing could be further from the truth.

When the Church fails to declare their hour of concern for their generation, then it is written.....

For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way. (2 Thessalonians 2:7)

If the Church of this generation fails to declare their hour, by stepping out of the way, for lawlessness to increase, then they have failed to carry the load of the many previous generations who had held back lawlessness, by declaring their hour.

The Church's job throughout the last 2000 years was to declare the hour and to hold back at bay lawlessness, through spiritual opposition. Today we are seeing indications, that the Church has dropped the ball so to speak and have stepped back, in allowing the sins of the world to creep into society and at times we see some Churches flagrantly promoting homosexuality, transgenderism, transhumanism, destroying the biblical God and Christ given definition of marriage.

Those same divergent churches have been a spiritual opposition to those declaring the hour of Christ's coming, by mocking them.

3Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. (2 Peter 3:3-7)

Even the apostles faced this spiritual opposition in their time, when they declared their hour of concern to the body of Christ.

When the watchman who stands at the door fails to declare the hour of the approach of the enemy, then that watchman has abandoned his post and has rolled around in the pig trough of the world.

The stepping out of the way is indicative of the falling away into the strong delusion of this Satanic love fest, of loving your sinful neighbours and not daring to correct them. The whole purpose is meant to serve a lie.

I am declaring to the Church, that the hour is at the door, and that we know it is the hour!

You are to reject all sins and all who commit those sins, without intention to repent. Remember when people are introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ, it becomes a curse to those accursed who do not hold it in the highest regard and who do not follow every jot and tittle of Christ's instructions.

Why doesnt Jesus know the hour except the father? Why cant he know?

Jesus is on the ground, God is above with eagle eye view.

Like spies or soldiers behind enemy lines, they can not do their job well if there is no home base to handle such details. Need to know. Home base is strategic, soldier in the field is tactical.

You all make good points. And what youre saying makes sense i guess. I just dont understand why he can not know that..i guess God does what he does for a reason..i just find it a bit confusing..
Hi JenniferD - yea it is often difficult for us to understand God. Something to do with Him being Who He is and the limitations of what we are. You are just one among most of us who have wondered about this so welcome to the club :)
The best I can give you is that it is all tied up with the Trinity and the incarnation. Our Lord and Saviour is fully God and fully human. At the time when he spoke these words here on earth that was his state of knowledge as a human being. The Father's wise will was that the Son nor the angels should have this particular piece of knowledge. Does The Lord Jesus now know the day and the hour? Well what do I know about such things?
Think on these scriptures JenniferD and be amazed and rejoice:-

Let this mind be in you all, which was also in Christ Jesus,
who, being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped. But He emptied Himself, taking upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in the form of a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:5-8

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
Hebrews 2:14-18

Go well

I’ll have a guess at thinking that whilst the Father has left all judgement to the Son, The father is still in charge and it is only The father knows when He will bring His wrath, aka let Jesus bring judgment.

Through out scripture it talks about the trinity, all one Godhead, 3 individuals.
It’s like when we pass stuff down to our kids, we only know when we do so, our kids never know.
Each part of the trinity have their duty’s, simply put, it’s not the fathers will for the son to know.

Jesus came into this world for the purpose of becoming the perfect sacrifice for the sins of mankind. He was both God and man, but laid aside His deity as God and became the servant of God as a man, Phil. 2:7.

Jesus only knew what was revealed to Him by the Holy Spirit. All the miracles performed by Christ came from the Holy Spirit through Him, He was a man that laid aside His power as God. He depended totally and completely on the Holy Spirit for His guidance.

Jesus didn't know these things because the Holy Spirit didn't tell Him during His ministry. When Christ rose from the dead, He then took on the glorified body and knew all things. He then took His deity as God to Himself. He had completed His mission to bring mankind back into relationship with the Father.
