In a series of tweets on Tuesday,Papa John's apologized for making "divisive" comments, saying they believe in the right to protest inequality and support the "players' movement to create a new platform for change." The pizza chain also gave neo-Nazis the middle finger in their apology after white supremacist site The Daily Stormer declared Papa John's the "official pizza of the alt-right."

Papa John's Apologizes For Blaming Player Protests On Declining Sales

Detroit Pistons Coach: Athletes Who Protest Are Patriots

We should never forget that this country was founded by protesters. Our founding fathers declared independence from Great Britain because they were dissatisfied with the laws and policies that they believed abridged their freedoms. Had they taken the stance that many want our professional athletes to take — to just shut up and honor your country no matter what — we would be living in British colonies. Furthermore, as Dr. Dyson reminded our team, protest has nearly always been thecatalyst for meaningful change. And it has always made people uncomfortable. This was true of the abolitionists, the women’s suffrage movement, the civil rights movement...... all of which shined a bright and needed light on injustice, demanded that our country live up to its stated ideals and produced our most meaningful change. To be sure, they made people feel uncomfortable along the way, but those were the people who needed to feel uncomfortable. People should never be permitted to feel comfortable while trampling the rights of others.

Those who have been at the forefront of great advances in social justice have always been willing to make significant personal sacrifices, and that group has always included athletes. Several of our current professional athletes are merely following in their footsteps. Muhammad Ali sacrificed the prime years of his career and presumably millions of dollars in income to oppose the Vietnam War. Colin Kaepernick has been denied employment for the act of taking a knee to draw attention to the issue of police killings of men of color. Tommie Smith and John Carlos were denied employment and advancement in their post-athletic careers because they raised a fist on the victory stand at the 1968 Olympics. These athletes and many others are risking future contracts and endorsement opportunities to speak out on issues of racial injustice because they feel duty-bound to do so. These are patriots of the highest order.

countless of studies blacks are more likely to be arrested and falsely prisoned then whites, more likely to be harassed by police, more likely to be killed by police, more likely to be pulled over by the police and more likely suspected of a crime.

Do you think it may happen to correspond to the facts
that blacks commit the majority of many crimes, including
violent crimes? That blacks, especially young blacks are
more likely to not obey orders, to talk back to cops and
attack cops with or without provocation? When you know
how bad cops can be, why would anyone push to see if
they can get a reaction. It's like teasing a wild dog until
it bites you, then acting surprised.

I agree, but Oscar Grant isn't one of them.

Neither is Castile. You don't tell a cop you have a gun, then
go digging in your jacket. For anything.

I agree, but Oscar Grant isn't one of them.

Neither is Castile. You don't tell a cop you have a gun, then
go digging in your jacket. For anything.

Wrong on both accounts let me explain:

First with Castile. Castile from the audio of both inside of the car and audio out of the car told a story of an officer who was scared and took someones life. The cop told the suspect to get his license and registration, which then he informed the officer that he had a permit to carry and had a gun. The cop told him to not reach for it Castile said " I'm not pulling it out" and his girlfriend also said "he is not pulling it out" after the cop shot and killed Castile his girlfriend said he was reaching for his "license and registration" which the cop demanded of Castile. So I guess he should not of obeyed the officer that had a gun to him right?

But here comes the strange parts first the officer claimed he could not see what the suspect was grabbing for, but then in court he claimed he saw Castile had a gun in his hands. But the gun was found to be in the holster so could not of been in his hands.

Now for real talk he had a baby girl, a girlfriend and was a teacher at a school, do you really think he would go for his gun with a gun pointed at him?

I will find other sources later if you want but here is a link and you can watch inside the car on YouTube.

Shooting of Philando Castile - Wikipedia

(For the video inside the car that repeatedly says he was reaching for his license and registration.)

Now for Oscar Grant. Grant raised his hands while seated against the platform wall. Additional footage from a cell phone was presented in court showing Pirone standing over the prone Grant before the shooting and yelling: "B####-a** (N word), right?" Pirone and his attorney say he was repeating an insulting epithet that Grant had yelled at him.

The video you have is from a movie of the story but YouTube videos of the incident goes against the police story of the incident.

Now let's go for a second that Grant was resisting the officers as bad as they say, one officer said " I'm going to tazor him" then a cop pulled out a gun and shot him Immediately after the shooting, Mehserle appeared surprised and raised his hands to his face; eyewitnesses said he looked stunned.

After viewing the shooting from multiple angles, police use-of-force expert Roy Bedard changed his mind about his opinion, saying: "I hate to say this, it looks like an execution to me"

(Here are videos from witnesses who were there)

I watched all the videos. The one inside the car starts after the shooting.
The one I put in above has the dialogue. As you said, the cop was scared.
Who in their right mind starts grabbing for anything with an armed and
scared cop there? And who was in the car doesn't matter. People have
pulled guns with family present before; even shot said family.

How many times did the suspects in the other video stand up and had
to be told to sit down and shut up? It's all in the video: live and recreated.

This isn't about whether or not a shooting was justified. It's about whether
or not the suspects involved were doing what the cops said, when they said
to do it. In these two cases, they didn't. They were going to do and say what
they felt like for whatever reason.

When the cop has a gun aimed at you and ask for your Drivers license and registration you get it. The fact in this case is the cop lied in court when he said he had a gun in his hand when it was proven that the gun was still in the holster and he was not grabbing for it as the officer claimed. Not to mention our brave armed forces are in more dangerous situations around the world and cannot fire unless first fired upon. Then we have the police shooting people without ever seeing a gun! Something is wrong in our country and needs to be looked at and fixed.

So it could comes down to it does not matter if they are not cooperating or not there is non-lethal options that police have that soldiers do not that can be deployed. The fact in both instances nobody saw a gun and they killed somebody that was not a threat. Oscar was not armed and Castile never reached for his gun, he reached for what the officer demanded of him which was his driver's license and registration. Both we're not justified shootings.

By the way sorry for the long time since I could reply just lots of stuff going on. This seems to be an ongoing thing of police killing unarmed people.

The NFL tried buying their players off with nearly $100 million so they'd stop kneeling and protesting at games ... but apparently it didn't work.

The NFL recently proposed a deal in which they'd contribute $89 million over seven years to 2 organizations focused on African-American causes, as well as to the Players Coalition so they could use the money for whatever causes they wanted.

In exchange, the NFL wanted the National Anthem protests to end -- but the deal seems to have failed. Many players continued to kneel and demonstrate during this week's games.

Trying to buy them off was a dumb idea. It let the players think they
were in the right and had to be bribed to act like adults.

It's going to have to come down to a rule change. Stay in the locker
room or kneel and you sit out the game unpaid. Protest goes the way
of excessive celebration in the end zone.

Wouldn't that be something the government paid the NFL to get on the field and look patriotic, to just pay them to go back in the locker room lol. paid patriotism is what brought you the show of patriotism. But to be honest the NFL players are on the right side as if the country is mistreating people then why stand for a country that discriminates against blacks and the Anthem you are supposed to stand for is racist?

If they can find a better country, they are free to go live
there and stand for that flag. Until then, if they can't find
reasons to show respect for this country, they can look
for other jobs where they aren't disrespecting our country
on TV every week. Maybe digging ditches for a while would
show them how good they had it.

Saying NFL players are protesting the flag is like saying Rosa Parks was protesting bus transportation. This nation was built on protesters and different ideas. They are making a statement to this country about what's been going on in a peaceful manner. Players used to stay in the locker rooms during the national anthem prior to 2009 but because of paid patriotism players are now on the field to show how patriotic they are. They are not required to take part of this paid patriotism if they do not choose to. For black Americans who feel the injustice that has been going on from slavery in the 1800s (plus the Black Laws or Black Code that followed) to racial segregation of the 1950s to police brutality of today they feel they do not have much to stand for when it comes to the anthem. They are not required to stand and if they choose not to that is their freedom to quietly sit or kneel. As this is not North Korea where they have to stand.

Fighting for civil rights have been going on in sports for a very long time. Baseball Hall-of-Famer Jackie Robinson said that he would not stand for the pledge for the same reasons players in the NFL are not standing today. Members of the NFL, NBA and the MLB are doing something that has been apart of sports since the 70s and we are acting like this is a new thing. This is not disrespecting our military as many of our brave military have died for the freedom that we are witnessing today.

US Defense Department paid 14 NFL teams $5.4M to honor soldiers

Is this veteran disrespecting the flag:

97-year-old WWII veteran takes a knee to support protesting NFL players

Yes, but he's probably going senile, so he has some excuse.

Also, he did it on his own time, in his own yard. Not while
on TV and in the stadiums representing the football teams
and the NFL, not to mention the fans watching.

Just cause he is old does not mean he is senile. He said that those kids have every right to protest. As that's what he fought for was the freedom to do that as countless of veterans are now taking a knee.

Veterans take a knee in support of national anthem protests

According to the rules they have the right to kneel or stand. So they are doing nothing wrong as they are taking part of something that has been going on in sports since the 70s, just now people are whining about it.

Many veterans agree that they have every right to protest on that field and they love our country and sacrificed for our country. Yet they fully agree that NFL members have a right to protest and a bunch of veterans have joined in on taking a knee. As it was former Army Green Beret Nate Boyer that suggested kneeling to Kaepernick.

Anthem kneeling isn't aimed at veterans, and other NFL protest misconceptions

That is why the rules need to change.

There is no doubt they have the right to do anything.
Just not on the job while they represent the team and
the fans. If they want to stay home, out of uniform and
unpaid, then they are free to do whatever they want.

The problem is they are divas. They want an audience.

So your position is they throw out their First Amendments right when they step on the field? Let's remember that students attending public schools even well they are on school grounds and in the class room have rights to not stand for the pledge (link below). So why on the field when they are not playing the game should they be forced to say a Anthem that has racism in it or stand for a flag that they feel does not represent freedom for blacks? Should they not have freedom to quietly sit or kneel? This is a peaceful and quiet way they are making a statement. Don't like it don't watch. But the second we start forcing people to stand for the Anthem is the second that we have a nation full of fake patriotism and a nation that is stripping people rights away, which will take us down a dark path.

Also let's remember the NFL was bribed to make the game look patriotic by our government. As prior to 2009 NFL players were not required to be on the field as many sat down in the locker rooms. But under this paid patriotism NFL players were told to be on the field but they are not required to stand for the Anthem. Under that bribe the government could not force individuals to stand as that would be illegal to do as the government can't be seen as forcing someone to stand.

Yes I suppose under your definition Rosa Parks was also a diva since to many people's views slavery and racism ended back in the 1800s. The truth is to many people never see racism till years later after the fact that they are shown to be on the wrong side of history.

Please name for me any culture, in any place in the world, at any point in history, where kneeling was considered an act of disrespect.

Very true. Even biblically speaking kneeling is a sign of deep respect. US veterans have stated they find this form of protest to be respectful not disrespectful as people are claiming.

Try it in court when the judge enters the room.

There are times when kneeling is appropriate.
During the anthem or pledge is not the time.

Think of the outrage if they changed the tradition
to have everyone kneel for the flag and pledge.
They already think standing or putting the hand
over the heart is too much to expect.

Close. You have a right to say anything, but when you represent
a company, they have the right to expect you to keep up their
image when you are representing them.

Students, as you know, do not represent the school or government
unless they are in uniform, such as cheerleaders or football players.
But if you don't think their rights are limited, see what happens if
you send a kid to school with a NRA shirt, a MAGA hat and a belt
buckle with the confederate battle flag.
