i LOVE God's encouragement, support, and patient teaching and guidance of Joshua, who was a fledgling leader of the multitudes of Israelites, as he simultaneously coped with the death of his own leader, Moses.

Joshua 4:

So the kings of the Amorites, and the kings of the Canaanites, hear about God drying up the Jordan River till all the Israelites pass over it, and they became soooo fearful that their hearts "melted".

And what is sooo pivotal here is that God is REMOVING their shame, and all residue of wounded-ness from being slaves, and any semblance of fear of Egypt. He is, in essence, setting them "free" from any strongholds still lingering.

Praise God!!!

DAY 5 / Joshua 5 / The circumcision of male Israelites to remind them they were God's prople. The celebration of the Passover. When it had been celebrated they were ready for battle.

What a precious heart God has. He is sooooooo infinitely patient.

Joshua 6:

Is this amaaaaaazing or WHAT???!!!

Jericho's mighty walls come a'tumblin' down. And in the most unexpected and earthquake-like kind of way. They were mighty walls, and Jericho was fortressed about, at least in human perception, it was "invincible". When they came a'tumblin' down, the people inside must've literally "quaked" in fear.

DAY 6 / Joshua 6 / What an amazing miracle,'brinny'. Many cities were captured on the way to Jercho. Yes amazing the way Jericho was conquered. Not by force but the Children of Israel marching around it and blowing the trumpet and the walls tumble down. Wow! Because of their disobedience the Caananites were conquered. God gave Joshua and His people success!

Yes! It was a judgment against them by God. And as a beloved Bible teacher of mine used to say....they had fair warning, and for a long long time, yet continued in their abominations.

DAY 7 / Joshua 7 / We read in this chapter of the sin and deceit of Achan.Joshua had declared a ban on the Children of Israel taking the spoils of Jericho. Achan defied the ban and hid the spoils among his own things. One sin was seen as disobedience by the whole nation. As a result the Israelites were defeated initially at Ai,the next major city after Jericho. Achan whose name means 'trouble' was punished.

How disappointing and heartbreaking that because of this one man, ALL the people were punished. As i think on it, it was like all of the people were "one body" spiritually and what effected one of them effected the entire "body".

Joshua 8:

So God tells Joshua right off the bat to not fear, or be dismayed, and tells Joshua His strategy for defeating the city of Ai and the king of Ai. Joshua heeds Him. It's a brilliant strategy, and it uses the "element of surprise".

This chapter highlights Joshua's obedience to God, and how he finds favor through obeying God.

DAY 8 / Joshua 8 / 'Now the LORD said to Joshua,"Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you and arise and go up to Ai. See I have given into your hand the king of Ai,his people, his city and his land and you shall do to Ai and its' king,as you did to Jeicho and its' king. Only its' spoil and its' cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves. Lay an ambush for the city behind it'.When the Children of Israel acted in obedience they would be blessed. They acted in obedience. After the ambush they seized the city and conquered it. God daid to Joshua,"Stretch out your spear towards Ai,for I will give it into your hand". Joshua did as he was told and they were given success. Joshua renewed his covenant with the LORD and built an altar to the LORD in Mount Ebal. Joshua read the laws of Moses to the people. God's blessing would come if the covenant was kept by His people. If they did not obey curse would come.

i agree. Joshua had a heart for God and it was evident that He loved God with all his heart, mind, and strength. The building of the altar reminds me of Jacob and Abraham.

Joshua 9:

So the Gibeonites come to Joshua and the Israelites, and ask to make a bond (treaty) with the Israelites. And they make a bond (treaty) with the Gibeonites. Only thing is, neither Joshua nor did the Israelites seek God in all of this, for guidance. Thus they were deceived, and foolishly made a bond (treaty) that was not of God and thus should not have been made. When Joshua found out the deception of the Gibeonites, he said that because of that deception, they are cursed. And thus it was.

Reminds me of (Psalms 38:12) 'Those also who seek my life lay snares for me. Those who seek my hurt speak of destruction and plan deception all day long'. The truth is 'the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. Who can know it?' (Jeremiah 17:9) God deals with deceitfulness.

Joshua 10:

Soooooooo there's a king in Jerusalem, of all places, named Adonizedek, who planned evil against Gibeon and all the inhabitants of Gibeon, because they had made peace with Israel. He had heard about Joshua overthrowing Ai and Jericho, and how Gibeon who were apparently more mighty and greater than Ai. He then feared. However instead of taking heed to WHO was behind these victories, He conspired with Hoham king of Hebron, and Piram king of Jarmuth, and Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon to destroy Gibeon for making peace with Joshua. They all went together and camped outside Gibeon, and in essence, declared war on it.

The Gibeons went to Joshua to ask for his help. And God tells Joshua that He has already given him victory against them. Joshua fights them, and lo and behold, GOD even steps in and pummels them with huge hailstones. And not only THAT, but Joshua said in the name of the Lord that the sun and the moon should be still. And they did, for an entire day, the sun stood still.

Whoa!!!

Joshua 11:

Sooooooo Jabin king of Hazor, transpired with other kings to attack Joshua and Israel and attempt to destroy the Israelites. Had he lost his MIND???!!! Didn't he hear (as well as the other kings) what happened to those who came against Israel? ??? No worries though, cuz God assures Joshua that He will hand them over to Joshua in a BIG way.

And He did.
