Why so much conservative hostility towards undocumented immigrants?

But what of the foreigner who doesn't reside among you?

Leviticus 19:34

The foreigner who resides with you must be to you like a native citizen among you; so you must love him as yourself, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

Good point. The foreigners must also conduct themselves like native citizens, not as thieves who plunder the economy of $50Billion plus per year and send it 'home'. They must accept our values, not establish a foreign 'ghetto' in our midst that has little resemblance of our culture.

Do you think Israel would have allowed the worship of foreign Gods (Allah for example) in her midst?

No, however, I do think that it is hypocritical to ALLOW millions of migrant workers to cross the border "illegally" (as was the case during past Republican and Democratic administrations), ... and then, at some later point, decide that you want to ship them all back.

For me, a "law" which is not enforced ... is not a "real" law. And the "illegals" were ALLOWED to cross the southern border ... to provide cheap labor for the American farm industry.

Deciding to send them back now ... smacks of hypocrisy.

You make a good point. The argument from the conservative standpoint is those people shouldn't have been allowed to be here in the first place. And those people knew it otherwise they would not have snuck across the border. They would have just walked through the front gates letting the border guards know they were coming in because we were allowing them to. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that happened. Most of them crossed the borders in an illegal fashion by sneaking in. Once we get an adminstration that enforces the law then they should be removed. It's the chance they took. Elections have consequences. It shouldn't be that way. I fully agree. We SHOULD have enforced the law all along. But it's the chance we take when we break the law that we might have to someday pay for it.

And none of that applies to the situation at hand. If we find an illegal crossing the border we should feed them, water them, give them medical attention if necessary and then send them back home and advise them we would be more than happy to welcome them the legal way.

For the record, not every conservative is hostile towards undocumented immigrants. When John McCain ran for president in 2008, he advocated a pathway to citizenship for these people. Lindsay Graham, Jeb Bush, and other compassionate conservatives likewise support an amnesty. In fact, I’m a conservative who also feels sympathy towards the undocumented community and wants to see the government help make the good law-abiding ones become citizens.

However, Donald Trump basically became president by scapegoating people in this country illegally. When he said he would build a wall along the US-Mexico border, his support went through the roof and secured his nomination. The fact that he accumulated so much support from Republican-voters testifies to the hostility that so many conservatives feel towards undocumented immigrants. To me, this is a very sad thing.

The Bible says this in Leviticus 19:34: “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.” Obviously those foreigners residing in ancient Israel didn’t have visas or passports. They were undocumented immigrants for all practical purposes. And God is telling his chosen people to treat them as native-born residents. This means God wants us to treat undocumented immigrants in the US with compassion.

Of course I’m aware of drug traffickers, sex traffickers, and violent criminals who come here illegally. By all means deport them. But what about the ones who study hard, abide by all the laws and don’t commit crime, and live like normal people? They’ve been here much of their lives and should be given a pathway to citizenship.

As a Republican and compassionate conservative, I don’t think I’ll ever understand what motivates so many other conservatives to feel so much hostility towards people just because they’re different. Yes, they came into this country illegally, but hasn’t everyone done something illegal in their life at one time? Give them a chance.

Our GOP is besmirched with xenophobia and needs to clean up.
I think much can be explain by quote from John Stuart Mill:

I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative. I believe that to be so obvious and undeniable a fact that I hardly think any hon. Gentleman will question it.

All the immigration is signalling big change for the USA. Technology is doing the same. Those who are not able to adapt will be left behind. Many are already being left behind and more change is coming. It must be very scary for those people.

It is stupid for you to call conservatives stupid.

A liberal professor here in the US gave IQ tests to universities students. He asked them a series of questions to determine their political leanings: Do you support gay marriage? Should the government raise taxes on the wealthy? Should qualified white people be discriminated against in college admissions and job applications in favor of unqualified blacks and Hispanics? Etc.

To this liberal professor’s surprise and wonder, he discovered that conservative students scored higher on IQ tests than liberal students.

This is proof that conservatives are actually smarter than liberals. You should look up the IQ data on the subject before you assume that conservatives are dumb.

The quote does not say conservatives are stupid. The first sentence is: I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid.

Please try again.

Nice try at reversing the situation. Too bad it didn't work.

What makes you so angry and bitter that you would speak so much hatred toward conservatives?

Sorry, but I do not understand what you are talking about. Your words make no sense in relation to the post you quoted. I quoted famous philosopher. Or do you not understand the words in the following sentence: "I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid."? If so, I can help you decipher the meaning, just please have dictionary online and ready as that will help. Thank you.

As for hating, why would I hate anyone? I hate racism. I hate that racism has become so blatant in USA. I hate that POTUS uses racism to appease significant part of his base. But I certainly do not hate anyone. Perhaps you are projecting?

Don't patronize me. I understood your anti-conservative insult and don't have any reading comprehension problems. The quote you posted, which you apparently agree with, said that stupid people incline towards conservatism. Whether you like it or not, that quote constitutes an insult toward conservatives.

I refuted your nonsensical claim about the supposed inferiority of conservative intelligence by bringing up a study showing that conservative university students score higher on IQ tests than liberal university students. You decided to ignore the facts and instead denied what you said, and then you attacked my supposed lack of reading comprehension skills.

Racism is indeed very blatant in the USA. Did you know that if a qualified, impoverished white person applies to a university or a government job, there is a strong chance he will get rejected in favor of an unqualified, middle class or upper middle class black or Hispanic who never experience racism in his entire life? Racism exists in America, but not the type you think. You don't live in the US and know nothing about the subjects you are criticizing.

By the way, if America is so racist against blacks, why did a nation with a white majority elect Barack Obama, a black, to the presidency?

Sorry ... Snopes has debunked that claim. See link below ...
New Study Shows Liberals Have a Lower Average IQ Than Conservatives

OTOH, the journal LiveScience has published a summary of a study which says quite the opposite ...

"There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience."

Snopes isn't a credible source.

I've seen that study you linked, and it's nonsense.

Show me a study where people who vote Democrat have a higher IQ than people who vote Republican. If you can't, then your claims have no basis.

YOU made the first claim to referencing a study. Whether you agree with it or not, ... at least the study I refer to actually exists ... linked below ...

I think it's a mixture of things.

On a lot of issues, I'm pretty socially liberal. I do, however, tend to side with the conservatives when it comes to illegal aliens (for a variety of reasons). Mainly, however, it's because of the concept of following the rule of law. I believe in that - so I don't condone people breaking the law.

Now, it's not a huge issue for me, nor is it an issue that I vote based upon. I think the conservatives make it out to be a bigger drain on the economy than it likely is, and I think the liberals make them out to be a bigger benefit than they actually are. My guess is that fiscally, when everything balances out, it's pretty much a wash. But that still doesn't get away from the fact that I can't condone them skirting the rules on how to get here.

Then you get other things that come into play. For example, calling them "Undocumented Immigrants" - kind of like "Hey, they just don't have their documents. Maybe they forgot them". That kind of nonsense falls into the political correctness crap that conservatives tend to rail against. It's an attempt to sanitize language and change the feeling around them. No, they're aliens, and they're here illegally. Stop with the "Undocumented Immigrants" garbage. "Illegal Aliens" describes them just fine.

Then you get into more and more layers of nonsense. Like, the tendency of the left to call others racists. I'm not a racist. I just don't approve of people hiding in the bushes waiting for an opening waiting for the police to get out of sight, then running across the border. I don't care if it's an irishman doing it or if it's a Mexican.

Then you get other stuff...like every year around Thanksgiving you see on social media all of these memes that pop up showing Native Americans being all nice to the Pilgrims...the idea being "Maybe we should take a lesson on how to treat immigrants from the Native Americans!"

The irony in that is just palpable. I'm sure every Native American around looks at those cartoons and wishes he could slap his ancestors and say "send them packing". Using a group nearly driven to extinction due to unchecked immigration as an example of how to behave in the face of modern unchecked immigration is amazing to me, but it seems few on the left make that connection...lol

There's just so many layers to it - above and beyond just the fact that they're here - that drives people nuts.

Have YOU provided a link to the study on which you base YOUR claims ?
