Some conservatives have also already noticed that Al Franken hasn't actually resigned ... not yet, anyway ... and are speculating that this is a ploy to sway the Moore election.
The Alabama election (they haven’t renamed the State yet) is only five days away.

It's political for sure. But some of it may have to do with Minnesota politics. The Democratic Party governor Dayton now gets to pick someone to fill the vacancy. He will probably pick his lieutenant governor Tina Smith, creating a vacancy there. That vacancy apparently is automatically filled by the leader of the state House. Problem there is that she is a Republican. And the state House is Republican by only one vote. Her 'promotion' would put them into a tie until a special election, which could go either way. There is a scramble within Minnesota politics about this and both sides stand to lose or gain. If Tina Smith goes to Washington, she will be a reliable leftist in the Franken tradition, another partisan, and I'm sorry to say probably one more swamp dweller in a town filled with swap dwellers of two parties.

I'm sure Al Franken, one of the most partisan politicians around, will try to take down who he can on the way out the door. He did telegraph this in comments about Trump and Moore. Now I personally think Trump should not have been elected, was and is unfit, is probably guilty of as much as Franken. I didn't vote for him (nor for Hillary) and left the party he now heads simply because it's his party now. It's not what it was two years ago. Maybe Franken can take Trump down. The good part of that would be that Mike Pence might be an honorable president. We need one of those again some day.
Splain how Franken can take down Trump. Did he tape their tryst?

Perhaps he wishes to use his seat as leverage to force the GOP controlled Senate to evict the judge, should he win next week? You know, thinking about for a moment, in a way this would be no more than right. After all, what Al has been charged with pales in comparison to the situation with Roy Moore.
He should have provided real apologies, sorry for his actions instead instead of being sorry those women felt badly. He should have resigned effective immediately. He should have admitted that he dishonored the Senate, which he did. Dishonored Minnesota, which he did. Dishonored women, which he did. And he should have gone off to become a very private citizen. Instead we get him continuing to play politics. It's kind of revolting.

The Trump sexual thing was and continues to be revolting. That was enough for me to walk out of the door of the Republican Party before the election. And because the Republicans compromised their values to look the other way about Trump, they can all the more easily look the other way about Moore. The best we can expect in that mess is that it was all just fake news. Failing that the best would be he is expelled and Alabama gets to try again at sending a Senator to Washington. But somehow I think it will be a political thing rather than a more common sense moral issue. Folks tolerate their own kind of abuser way too long. We have people in Minnesota even now bewailing how they lost a Senator who was such a 'friend to women'. Yup. Sure he was. What a joke.

He can try. They have had the goal of impeachment since the day after the election. I suspect they will keep trying until the day Trump leaves office at the end of his (first or second) term. Maybe Franken will do some damage. We'll see.

That’s a weak answer but thanks for trying.

Except this isn’t an argument of biology...it’s an argument of propriety, of ethics, of acceptable morality....

One one side, in the case of Franken, we have a man who is prepared to accept the consequences of actions that have been deemed unacceptable by his peers. In the cases of Trump and Moore, we have two ‘men’ who can only focus upon their egos and political futures...

In the case of Trump, the question of the acceptability of his conduct was settled last year. He was tried in the court of public opinion, and he was acquitted. As for Moore, I believe the verdict will be coming on Tuesday...

I don't pretend to have evidence in front of me about Franken, Trump, or Moore, or for that matter anyone else. But I have seen Franken operate now for about nine years so I can speculate as to what he might do next.

Kind of like an OJ ‘acquittal’, right....?

Do you think public opinion is the way to ascertain guilt?

Is this the same public that elected a self-centred, juvenile, serial liar to the highest office in the land?

Franken is heavily damaged goods in their eyes now. They get to virtue-signal, and present a contrast against the Pubs next week in Alabama. For a little more on the cynicism of it all, especially concerning Sen. Gillibrand, who has her eyes on higher office, Tucker Carlson made some good points.

Cynicism? The GOP leadership, which only 3 weeks ago stated they believed Moore's accusers, are now pretending those women never existed. Moore himself stated he does not know them - a blatant lie.

You can use all the cute words you want (virtue signaling -really?) but in the end, the GOP is supporting a man who at 32 years old, sexually exploited under age teenagers.

Such accusations from a party which elevated a serial rapist to the highest office in the land ... and refused to remove him from office even after his misdeeds were well established.

The same party which even attempted to establish a dynasty upon that legacy merely one year ago.
