WASHINGTON—The Trump administration is considering a plan to formally recognize Jerusalem as the “undivided” capital of Israel and to move the U.S. Embassy there in the future, U.S. officials said, steps that could trigger Palestinian protests and imperil the restart of a long-stalled peace process.

The Trump administration has begun notifying U.S. embassies overseas about the plan so envoys can inform their host governments and prepare for possible protests. Officials said the plans weren’t final, however, and the U.S. was working through additional legal and policy considerations. A formal announcement could come as early as next week, the officials said.

“The president has always said it is a matter of when, not if,” a White House spokesman said when asked about moving the embassy. “The president is still considering options and we have nothing to announce.”

It's about time. I'm sick and tired of waiting for my country to do this. AND Trump needs to do at least one constructive thing during his tenure. It will be worth ALL of the fall out, because we will be validating the only western democracy in the Middle East.

I am not sure why the Pope states he wants to majntain the status quo. Where is the leadership?

Jerusalem is the capital and holy city, and always has been. Radical Islam will want to kill us and the Pope no matter what he says or does.

It is no time to be a shrinking violet, we are in dark times and we need leadership.

The past 20 or so years of not stating the obvious has not helped matters either. Nobody wants to do away with the peace process but every president has promised this for years and always backs down. I think it was time to have the courage to state what has always been since ancient times.

Well said. We live in a time of unprecedented violence against both Jews and Christians. Appeasement will not work, it is considered weakness by Muslims in general.

We are called to walk in faith and to drink from the cup that we are called to. Christ didn’t shrink from the horrors that awaited him.

It is a ridiculous move by Trump. Sure, things haven't been great in Israel, but going against the international communities stance on Jerusalem will do absolutely nothing but cause much more trouble....and for what? So that Trump can be correct and "recognise a reality"? Great.

Hamas has already stated that this is an act of war and has threatened another intifada as a result. Please explain to me what good this move, by Trump, has done?

Bunch of cowards for wanting to work towards peace whilst your egotistical and, quite frankly, clueless president throw it all away to "Make America Great Again"?

Kyrie Eleison, indeed. :crossrc:
