Requesting prayer as I work with homeless women

Hello everyone!
I am new here, and would like to ask for prayer that God would use me however he chooses, to reach, and to show his love to homeless women in Portland. I feel so inadequate every time I go to volunteer with them. (as a song goes..."If it's true..that You use broken things, here I am, Lord, I'm all Yours...") Thank you, so much, to anyone who prays!

Praying for you, @Chelle T. , and may your ministry be blessed. If you are speaking of the east coast Portland, so much of the homelessness seems related to the opioid epidemic that is killing our youth. I’m in the next state over, and see far too many deaths and overdoses. May God have mercy.

Father, continue to bless this one that is already working with the homeless and asking for prayer. May You answer these prayers in an even mightier and more powerful effective way than we even imagine. Calm their spirit, direct their actions and words, give them Scripture to minister with, the compassion of Christ, and may they be encouraged by seeing many results of You working through them in the lives of these women. May You keep them safe, and provide for the needs of this ministry, and may these women come to know You, grow in You, and become channels themselves of Your blessing and power. Amen.

I also work with the homeless and in the prison system with women inmates. The most important thing to remember is to be real and talk with them as you would anybody else. New volunteers have a tendency to speak as though they are children, using a tone of voice that tends to be condescending and patronizing. This is to be avoided. You will likely encounter many mentally ill people, but they want to be treated like they are not. Who can blame them? People talk down to them all the time.

People on the margin of society need to know that they have value to you, and especially to God. Reminding them of God's love and treating them with dignity will edify not only the homeless, but every person you encounter.

Enjoy! It is very rewarding work, and God is please with you.
