I came to Christ through the preaching and prayers of some awesome Baptists. Am now prayerfully learning about the Catholic Church. Paedobaptism is something I still have to work with and study. Just out of curiosity, if you wind up leaving the Baptists, where do you feel like you might wind up?

God bless you and be with you!

I find myself aligning with Presbyterianism. Blessings!

Indeed, but even pedobaptists believe one should baptize people who are new converts to the faith.
They were baptized because they gladly received his word. Note the order. Intelligent and conscious and glad reception of the word showed faith.

I shall move on, friend.

Interesting. My husband and I went to a Reformed church a few times; solid, interesting preaching. He tackled and face-kicked euthenasia, which was cool. Can't side with Calvinism theologically, but the setting, people, and pastor were all kind, and friendly. Even wanted to take us out to lunch, which was sweet of him. Hubby's a tad shy, so we bolted before he could ask us out, but dear fellow. Good to meet you, Sir! Blessings, too.

Thank you friend. Per forum rules I am not allowed to debate the other view here. I'm only interested in hearing pro-credobaptism arguments, so I will not be offering a response.

Thanks for the reply.

As the title says, I've been a baptist all my life but am becoming slowly convinced of pedobaptism.

I'd like to hear some counter arguments from fellow baptists to persuade me otherwise.
.
I'm not a Baptist but this is my best argument against Infant Baptism

Mar 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Two questions.
1) How does an infant come to the point of Belief, if Belief is the prerequisite before Baptism?

If the answer is, someone (The God Parents) stand in for the Infant.

2) Then shouldn't someone be able to stand in for the person spoken of who believes not as well, where is there a difference?

The point being, both the Infant, and the other person do not Believe.

The other side of the coin is, are you also leaning toward the Belief,
that if the infant is not Baptized, they would go to hell if they died as an Infant?

I would like to reiterate what JIMINZ said and to add:

People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. (Matthew 3:5)

Babies confess their sins?

Coming from a Roman Catholic background myself my view of infant baptism is that it creates legions of nominal, lip serving Christians who believe they've arrived because they were baptized as a baby, but have little evidence of the new birth or regeneration in their lives, indeed little awareness of what I would actually be taking about if I broached the subject with them.

God Bless :)

Oh I'm a die-hard Calvinist so if you ever have any questions, hit me up!

Why, what is so important in this doctrine?
It cannot be a replacement for circumcision, and it is a ceremony.
Could you find better evidence in God's Word for The Baptism of the Holy Ghost ?
Believers Baptism?
Let's try a example..

Acts 8: 5. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8. And there was great joy in that city. 12. But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 14. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15. Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16. (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17. Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Are babies sanctified forever if they are Baptised?
It must be because when I am Wittnesing to Catholics, they often tell me.
they were baptised as a baby

It's true ,I have been blessed to take one Catholic young man to the alter.
So many have cut me off and said I was born Catholic or my Mother was Catholic.
My good friend is from the Philippines, He goes to a nondenominational Church.
He told me He was a Catholic but did not care for the rituals.
Sadly I asked Him if He ever was born again .
He could not understand what I was talking about.
I asked is He invited Jesus into his Heart , He had no idea what I was saying.
To Him it's all good forever, once sprinkled always sprinkled.

I can not argue for the pedobaptist position in this subforum (I think it's against the rules) but I think I can answer some of your questions:

1) the pedobaptist position is not that infants have faith

2) no, the pedobaptist position does not guarantee salvation, nor does it mean one will go to hell if not baptized.

No, the pedobaptist position is not that a baby is sanctified forever because of his/her baptism.

The man in question definitely sounds confused about his salvation, and it is sad that he puts his trust in his baptism for salvation.

However I can confidently say that such a view is not the (reformed, covenantal) view of pedobaptism that I am leaning towards.

Blessings!

.
Could you then give a brief explanation as to the Purpose and Benefit of Pedobaptism, does a Belief in or a confession of Faith in Jesus precede this type of Baptism.

Maybe my understanding is totally off.
