The Great Tribulation is a frightening thing to read about. People seem to be trying to empower themselves for it. This is not necessary, unless you are a member of the antichrist's movement. If you are, I want to urge you that no sin contract can defeat the blood atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ.
But to fellow believers, preparing yourself for the Tribulation is just as senseless as going to hell. You know that sins are covered. It's finished. Take advantage of the oppurtunity while it still lasts, because the day is coming when the restrainer will cease the restraining.
The AntiChrist cannot come to power while you are still on this planet, if you are born again.
Why Not? 2 Thesalonians might be the most revealing chapter of anything concerning the Pre Tribulation Rapture. He starts,
2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

Here Paul is Clearly saying that he is about to give councel on the topic in 1 Thes 4:17 when he said we will be "caught up together with them in the clouds," Why?

2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

The Day of Christ. Philipian 1:10 and 2:16 will give more insight as to why this day is NOT THE SAME as the day of the Lord. This day of Christ, our Lord will receive His purchased possession, His bride. On the Day of The Lord, He will take His rightful place as King of The Earth, which is described very very differently. That day is not a day of hope for anyone who is left on the Earth at that time, as stated all throughout the Bible, but most notbably

2Pe_3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

This is telling us the proper order of events, PRIOR to John ever having a Revelation about the details, so that we should not be deceived. First, there is a great falling away, the time of apostasy in which we now live, and then the AntiChrist is revealed.

2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

This tells us the Antichrist is here now, working, and The Holy Spirit is Letting Him. until The Holy Spirit is taken away. And where does the Holy Spirit live today? Inside of the body of every born again believer of the Lord Jesus Christ. Will the Holy Spirit exit your body on the day that He exits the Earth to meet the Lord in the air? No. He is sealed in us, as described in Ephesians 4:30, the same kind of Seal of the Holy Spirit that locks the beast away for a 1,000 years at the Lord's will of timing, with no hope for escape but to be let out at an appointed TIME.

2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
2Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

"Where does the Holy Spirit go during the Rapture?"

I think you mean during the tribulation. That answer varies with your denominational background. In the Wesleyan background I grew up in, He was pulled away from the earth to allow the "man of sin" aka antichrist to be revealed. That meant that once we were gone, no one could be saved and no one could die. (ref: the movie "A Thief in the Night")

But Baptist doctrine says the HS is still here on earth and people will continue to be saved. (ref: the Left Behind books/movies)

Doctrine only varies if you think there can be a private interpretation of the scriptures, but anyone who thinks that isn't thinking with the Bible since

2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

I am not a Baptist.

The Holy Spirit will be gone in the free form that He now gives Himself as. But He is Omnipresent, and therefore can never truly be gone. Salvation in the Tribulation is based on this:

Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Rev 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Rev 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Rev 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Salvation comes at the end of our faith. Those in Rev. 14 that die for the Lord are still keeping the faith in Jesus. They are the church.

We wait for the day of redemption. Luke has for us to look up after we see -things - then -redemption is nigh.

The Holy Spirit is everywhere because He's God. So even if "the rapture" were true (and it's not) then the Holy Spirit would still be everywhere.

The Holy Spirit is raptured at the same time as the second coming ..the man of lawlesss, the anti-Christ, is then free to cause great tribulation of the last 3 1/2 years of Matthew 24
