Mary was “ with child”. Joseph was certain that Mary had done wrong. He was certainof this until the Angel convinced him otherwise..in the interim hadJoseph been a good law- keeper,he would have seen to it that Mary would be stoned to death....that was THE LAW.!...Fortunatly for all concerned Joseph ignored THE LAW and chose compassion instead.Love and compassion will always trump law..anyone got any other examples to show what God really wants....seems to me an ounce of kindness and compassion is worth more than 50 lbs of law-keeping

The Law does not require us to stone anyone that we suspect of breaking it, but rather it gives instructions for due process with an investigation into the matter and requires there to be two or three witnesses before anyone is killed. Furthermore, in Matthew 23:23, Jesus said that mercy is one of the weightier matters of the Law, so if someone's obedience to the Law is not characterized by the mercy, then they are not obeying it correctly. The Law was intended to teach us how walk in God's ways and to reflect His attributes to the world, so really if any of God's attributes are missing from how we are obeying the Law, then we are not obeying it correctly, which means that kindness and compassion are not just consistent with how we ought to keep the law, but are required.

Nothing in the chapter addresses fiance's, only those who are already married.

I believe it goes on to imply her state before the marriage when they were only betrothed. Her not being a virgin...

Fair enough.

Another example would be here:

Joh 8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
Joh 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
Joh 8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
Joh 8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
Joh 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Joh 8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
Joh 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
Joh 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
Joh 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

John 8:1-12 is an example of Jesus acting in accordance with the Law requires. There was no judge to pronounce a sentence (Deuteronomy 19:17-21), there was no man accused (Leviticus 20:10), he didn't have any witnesses to examine (Numbers 35:30, Deuteronomy 19:15), and he did not have a confession, so if he had condemned her, then he would have acted in violation of the Law. Just a few verses later Jesus said that he judged no one (John 8:15) and he also said that he came not to judge (John 12:47), so he did not exercise authority as a magistrate and did not condemn her, but he did recognize her action as sin, and told her to go and sin no more.

I am just trying to show that compassion trumps law

Jesus taught forgiveness, and he went one further, he died to pay the price for our sin so it could be forgiven.. So, when I sin, I repent, and do as Christ says we should, and ask for forgiveness.

Since the original scenario got kind of messed up, lets move to what was the originally intended sin of true infidelity, infidelity without repentance in this case, and continuous. Do you think whoever got the short end of the situation would then be so quick to forgive when the perpetrator is very insincere like that and continues in their sin, unconcerned about forgiveness?

I bring it up because I have a feeling this is about do whatever we wish ad still be saved, but either way, the other angle to this should be brought up.

He didn't ignore God's law (Mary didn't break a command) and be careful... the author of the law is God Himself. I have seen people demean the law, belittle it... which belittles Him in the process since it is His words.

Jesus replied "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. Now I tell you..." (Matthew 19:8-9)

Here Jesus states Moses had some say in what was written in the law, therefore the law is not all "His words".

Jesus’ discourse on the Sabbath in Mark 2 illustrates the difference between legalism and being human I think

Love and compassion will always trump law.
Not true.
.
FYI, God's Law is based on justice, love, compassion/mercy and faith.

MATTHEW.22: =
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

MATTHEW.23: =
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. 24 Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

Hosea 6:6 ?

James 2:13 ?

The weightier matters in your quote are about Love. 1 Corinthians 13 ... without Love a person is “nothing”

Romans says Comandment this and that... sure whatever... then says... it’s all summed up in Love.

I don’t understand how Matthew 23 a chapter where Jesus blasts law keepers that have no Love, applies.

Once you miss that the forgiven Adulterous was told to “sin” no more in the same book where “the sin of the world is unbelief”... and try to add to Jesus act of mercy... you miss the most amazing thing!

God... wrote in stone with His finger, His standards of perfection... and Moses literally broke them as he saw the children of Israel breaking them! They were redone.

God is born among us and grew to the moment where the finger of God again writes, but in the very dust we were formed from... and stands the only Sinless One there.

He shows that all have sinned and fallen short but Him, thus only He could have judged by the Law.

He then forgives the woman and asserts that He alone is her SAVIOR! Not her law keeping, not the teachers of the law... but HIM! Luke 2:11 / Isaiah 43:11

He shows mercy over Law! He shows a new command that surpasses and Fulfills the rest...

L—O-V-E (John 13:34)

Nowhere else did that finger write and nowhere else did He say “Command I give you”.

If you are saying that you want to get rid of all laws, I strongly disagree.

If you are saying that you want to get rid of some laws, which ones?

Jesus wasn't killed by atheists or agnostics or outsiders, he was killed by religious people who were taught that God wrote their scriptures, their laws.

John 16:2 2They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.

You have mistaken understanding. Mary did not actually violate the law (of being an adulterer). Joseph was wrong in his initial judgment and God intervened to show Joseph the truth. Joseph did not ignore the law.

Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

What about the fine print? Deuteronomy 22:13-21 starts off by stating that the husband had to of started the initiation of the physical consummation of the marriage. She was found to be pregnant before that happened, "but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant" Matthew 1:18.

I have to admit this took me about 10 minutes of investigating, perhaps I'm missing something. Can you show me exactly where in the the Law Joseph had legal grounds prior to their consummation for having her stoned to death?

Fortunatly for all concerned Joseph ignored THE LAW and chose compassion instead.
I think even the Old Testaments prophets were indicating that the Mosaic law was not of God; it was all man made. Passages saying, "thus saith the Lord", were not from God. Jesus confirmed this in rejecting the law.
