How could the Father of fathers, Who created everything, condone such a savage and unspeakably cruel institution and practice?
I know right?! How could he! But.. that is actually what happens in the bible..
God actually ordered the Moses' people to kill the men of a non believing tribe and take their wives as slaves for themselves. That doesn't sound at all like God being opposed to slavery. Slavery is actually a very common subject in the bible and only in one case (that I know of) God freed the slaves, simply because they were his followers, not merely because they were slaves. There are a lot of other situations where the bible confronts the reader with slavery. In most of those cases God doesn't come to the rescue...
This is of course very easily explained. The men who wrote the bible lived in a time that slavery was normal, even moral. So don't try to exonerate God (like he didn't approve of slavery), because the book that tells God's ways and whims doesn't frown upon it at all.
