SCRIPTURE FOR THE SEVEN MOEDIM (FEASTS) OF YAHWEH

The Moedim (feasts) are rehearsals, and are appointments with Yahweh.

Leviticus 23:1-44 NKJV

1. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2. "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:
'The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations,
these are My feasts.
3. 'Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.
4. 'These are the feasts of the Lord, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times.

1.) PESACH (PASSOVER)

5 On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the Lord's Passover.

“And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to Yahweh throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance FOREVER.” (Exodus 12:14)

Fulfilled

CHAG HAMATZOT (UNLEAVENED BREAD)

6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; seven days you must eat unleavened bread.
7. On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.
8 But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord for seven days. The seventh
day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.' "
9. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

“And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance FOREVER.” (Exodus 12:17)

Fulfilled

3. BIKKURIM (THE FEAST OF FIRSTFRUITS)

10. "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest.
11. He shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
12. And you shall offer on that day, when you wave the sheaf, a male lamb of the first year, without blemish, as a burnt offering to the Lord.
13 Its grain offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire to the Lord, for a sweet aroma; and its drink offering shall be of wine, one-fourth of a hin.
14 You shall eat neither bread nor parched grain nor fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your God; it shall be a statute FOREVER throughout your generations in all your dwellings

Fulfilled

4.) SHAVUOT (FEAST OF WEEKS/PENTECOST)

15. 'And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. 16 Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the Lord.
17. You shall bring from your dwellings two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven. They are the firstfruits to the Lord.
18. And you shall offer with the bread seven lambs of the first year, without blemish, one young bull, and two rams. They shall be as a burnt offering to the Lord, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma to the Lord.
19. Then you shall sacrifice one kid of the goats as a sin offering, and two male lambs of the first year as a sacrifice of a peace offering.
20. The priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before the Lord, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to the Lord for the priest.
21. And you shall proclaim on the same day that it is a holy convocation to you. You shall do no customary work on it. It shall be a statute FOREVER in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
22 'When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field when you reap, nor shall you gather any gleaning from your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the stranger: I am the Lord your God

Fulfilled

5.) YOM TERUAH (ROSH HASHANAH/FEAST OF TRUMPETS)

23. Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
24. "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.
25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.' "

Numbers 10:8-9
8 The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and these shall be to you as an ordinance FOREVER throughout your generations.

Not Fulfilled

6.) YOM KIPPUR (DAY OF ATONEMENT)

26 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
27 "Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.
28 And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God.
29 For any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall be cut off from his people. 30 And any person who does any work on that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people.
31 You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute FOREVER throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
32 It shall be to you a sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath."

Not Fulfilled

SUKKOT (FEAST OF TABERNACLES)

33. Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
34. "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the Lord.
35 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it.
36 For seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it.
37 These are the feasts of the Lord which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire to the Lord, a burnt offering and a grain offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, everything on its day
38 besides the Sabbaths of the Lord, besides your gifts, besides all your vows, and besides all your freewill offerings which you give to the Lord.
39 'Also on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep the feast of the Lord for seven days; on the first day there shall be a sabbath-rest, and on the eighth day a sabbath-rest.
40 And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of beautiful trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.
41 You shall keep it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It shall be a statute FOREVER in your generations. You shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
42 You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths,
43 that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.' "
44 So Moses declared to the children of Israel the feasts of the Lord.

Not Fulfilled

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Numerous New Testament examples show where people were intending to keep the Feasts, were keeping them, and would keep them again the in Kingdom. Those passages include: Luke 2:42; John 5:1; 7:2, 10, 14; 12:20; Matthew 26:2, 17, 29; Acts 18:21; and 1Corinthians 5:8.

Yahshua himself kept the feasts as he calls us to follow his example.

What do you suppose we are to learn from these rehearsals? I believe that we would do well to start with what these moedim represented in the time of Moses, in order to understand the transposition of these moedim to our relationship with Yahshua.

I believe that they all point to the wedding of the bride of Yahshua.

From my understanding the only one of those feasts not fulfilled is the Feast of Trumpets.
Day of Atonement - Jesus fulfilled this when He became our sacrifice.

Feast of Tabernacles - The Holy Spirit fulfilled this when He came to indwell us.
Revelation 21:3

Can we keep these feast as prescribed by YHWH? That would be a lot of lambs.

No, he will fulfill the fall feasts when he returns.
Not everyone will be making the sacrifices. But
it will be a lot of lambs, goats, cattle, birds and
meal sacrifices. It won't take long for breeders
to increase the supply to meet demand.

Fulfilment of Ezekiel 37:27
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers
(27) My tabernacle also.--Compare the whole promise of this verse with 2Corinthians 6:16 : "Ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." This promise of "a sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore" was in type and shadow set before the eyes of the people with the restoration of the Temple of Zerubbabel; but in its reality began to be fulfilled at the incarnation of the Son of God, of whom it is said by St. John (John 1:14) that "He dwelt (literally, tabernacled) among us," and is continued by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of believers (1Corinthians 3:16; 1Corinthians 6:19); while it is to receive its final consummation in that future when the tabernacle of God shall be with men, and "the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple" of the heavenly Jerusalem (Revelation 21:3-22).

The Day of Atonement where the High Priest went in once a year to make sacrifices for the people.
When Jesus let His Spirit go, the Veil of the Temple was rent from top to bottom.
That looks like fulfillment to me.

I just don't understand why some folks have to make the feasts into prophecies. Why can't the feasts simply be wonderful feasts? What's wrong with that?

They are feasts, but they were also given to instruct us about God and about God's plan of redemption. In Colossians 2:16, it says that the Festivals were given to outline things that are to come. I can recommend this study on the Feasts if you're interested:

Colossians 2:16 says no such things. Try quoting it next time if you dare.

Shalom Open Heart,

Yahweh tells us that these Moedim are to be kadosh miqra.

  1. Strong's Hebrew: 4744. מִקְרָא (miqra) -- a convocation ...
    biblehub.com/hebrew/4744.htm
4744. miqra Strong's ... A public meeting (the act, the persons, or the place); also a rehearsal -- assembly, calling, convocation, reading. see HEBREW qara'
Why do you suppose that Yahweh calls us to bring the lulav to Sukkot? I believe that it is a learning aid.

If so, what are we to learn?

I believe that the events that these Moedim represented in the time of Moshe, were types and shadows of events that were to come.

Sorry, I meant to include Colossians 2:17:

The Israelites tried to do just that. That is they were not focusing on the reason for the feasts.
They just wanted to have a feast, they were going through a ritual. The same thing was happening with the offerings and the Sabbath. They forgot the reason to have feasts, offerings and the Sabbath and it was all ritual.
God had a big problem with that.
Even going so far as to call what they did a stench in His nostrils.
Knowing the reason/lesson for the feast is more important than the observance of the feast.

Sorry, I meant to include Colossians 2:17:

which are a shadow of the coming things, and the body is of the Christ;
It refers to the fact that the World to Come will be a Holy Age, an age where Messiah is Here and God is close, an age where we do not have to travail to eat, it will be as if every day were the Sabbath. It's a figurative remark. It doesn't mean that the holidays are prophecies. We have to make the distinction.

Just because rehearsal may be ONE meaning of miqra, doesn't mean it is the the meaning being used. It is only one meaning among a great many, MOST of which are present oriented.

I'm going to add words in (blue) to the verses that Soyeong introduced to this discussion. I'm not doing it for your sake. I'm doing it for the benefit of those who might be reading this thread, who are not as mature in their understanding as you and I are. That said, in your understanding, what do these verses allude to?

(CLV) Col 2:16
Let no one, then, be judging you in (clean) food (as you keep YHWH's Moedim) or in drink (as you keep YHWH's Moedim) or in the particulars of a festival ,(as you keep YHWH's Moedim) or of a new moon,(as you recognize YHWH's calander) or of sabbaths,(as you keep the Shabbat as YHWH commands)

(CLV) Col 2:17
which are a shadow of those things which are impending—yet the body is the Christ's.

I haven't seen anyone here say that the Moedim are prophesies. Soyeong and I have presented evidence that they are rehearsals for future events.

Now regarding sacrifices, YHWH outlined many types of sacrifices; and they weren't all for sin.

I can only find two verses in the Torah which outline Yom Teruah, as follows:

Vayikra (Leviticus) 23:23-25 Yahweh said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites: 'On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with shofar blasts. Do no regular work, but present an offering made to Yahweh by fire.

Bamidbar (Numbers) 29:1 "'On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. It is a day for you to sound the shofarot.

How does this evidence correspond to your understanding?

God had a problem that they were making sacrifices without being repentant for their sins. It had nothing to do with thinking feasts are prophecies. They aren't.
1:10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
1:11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
1:12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?
1:13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
1:14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

As Hark pointed out in post 17 the feasts weren't about sin. And as Hark pointed out in post 5 each feast had a specific purpose. They were to remember something with each feast. They could not have known at the time that it also pointed to something in the future.
And because they forgot the reason for the feast God said these verses in Isaiah to them.

This is an erroneous translation. "Is" is not in the Greek text. It simply says, "but the Body of the Christ". The "Body of the Christ/Messiah" is the "church" or the called out believers (Colossians 1:18, 24; Colossians 2:19; 3:15). Only a believer can judge another believer regarding the shadows mentioned. We are not to allow anyone outside the Body to judge us. When Paul wrote, "Let no one" in verse 16, he was referring to the deceivers and philosophers of verses 4, 8 & 18 who were trying to beguile the Colossians by adding their man made traditions (Colossians 2:8, 18, 20-23).

Paul's intent is as follows;

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you ... but the Body of the Christ.

Here is a brief Messianic overview of my understanding:
...

4.) Shavuot (Pentacost)

Pouring out of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit)

5.) Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets)

Last trump, resurrection of the dead, coronation of the king, wedding of Mashiach

6.) Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)

Day of Mashiach's second coming
I believe there is a future fulfillment of Shavuot when the latter rain will be poured out on believers as the former rain was in Acts 2.

I believe Yom Teruah points to the future Day of YHWH when the 7 trumpets of Revelation will begin to sound.

I believe the "last trump" signaling the resurrection of the dead is the anti-typical Jubilee trumpet blown on Yom haKippurim to set the captives of death free.
