"What is or is not permissible in Texas prisons is largely decided by mailroom staff, the newspaper found. Content and imagery are only part of the criteria applied; many books are banned because their bindings or covers could be used to smuggle contraband. For obvious reasons, maps are also banned.

“Mein Kampf is on the approved list because it does not violate our rules,” said Jason Clark, TDCJ deputy chief of staff."

I am currently reading Mein Kampf and I find the story fascinating. His goal was to restore Germany as an independent nation and to defend it from the advance of Communism which is a Jewish creation: Karl Marx, Lenin and Trotsky were all Jews. His intention was not to kill Jews but communists, but all the communists in Germany were Jews. He definitely believed that the Germans were a superior race, which is nonsense, but he was not trying to take over the world as the allies portrayed.

Hitler was an anti-Semitic monster, please don’t try and defend him.

If this is true, I will eat my hat.

Where do you get such nonsense?

Those rules need to be looked into a again? The Color Purple?
I don’t have a problem with prisons having rules in regard to the suitably of books, but to allow Mein Kampf whilst banning the Color Purple and Monty Python is beyond absurd!

Oy vey.

Need I point out the glaring error in logic here?

From wikipedia (I know, run by the Jews, right )

Jewish Bolshevism, also known as Judeo-Bolshevism, is an antisemitic and anti-communist canard which alleges that the Jews were at the origin of the Russian Revolution and held the primary power among Bolsheviks. Similarly, the Jewish Communism theory implies that Jews have been dominating the Communist movements in the world. It is similar to the ZOG conspiracy theory, which asserts that Jews control world politics.[1] The expressions have been used as a catchword for the assertion that Communism is a Jewish conspiracy.

It's inaccurate to say that all communists were Jewish, but Jews were absolutely over-represented in the leadership of communist parties and organizations during the period, particularly in Germany. Take the German Revolution immediately following the end of the First World War, which was a big issue for Hitler. If you go to the Wikipedia page for it and look at the list of leaders and commanders, you'll see 15 names there. Based on real quick checks of their pages on that site, 11 of those 15 people were Jewish.

This obviously doesn't prove that communism was some kind of secret Jewish conspiracy, but it does help explain why people could start drawing that conclusion. It's not like the Nazis pulled literally everything they said or referenced out of their collective rear ends.

But anyway, yeah, seems a little silly to ban the books mentioned above.

The prison policy sounds like it was more motivated by practical than ideological motives. I am not sure that reading Mein Kampf would make anyone a Nazi today , indeed it is more likely to read like a crazy outdated form of contextualised racism. Monty Python could read like a list of practical jokes to be tried out.

It is a little puzzling to me why so many Jews were attracted by and influential in early communism and in the Russian revolution especially. Compare a secularised Jewish Communist with a Jewish Orthodox on the West Bank or Netanyahu today and there seems to be little of a common bond beyond the hereditary link. The deeper problem here seems to me a form of atheism in Germany to which many Jews were vulnerable which included thinkers like Nietzsche, Freud AND Marx and British ones like Darwin. A form of atheism which had lost all moral restraint and on the basis of which Nazis, Maoist and Stalinists could emerge to commit great evils.

Hitler was an anti-Semitic monster, please don’t try and defend him.

Monsters are empowered by the strengths and weakness of the cultures in which they rise. Germany was the intellectual heartland of the world from the late nineteenth century to the 1930s and yet the form of atheism, so influential there, could spawn movements as diverse and poisonous as Nazism , Communism and modern day liberalism. It amazes me how a culture so rich and so profound could have fallen prey to the nonsense that theological liberals, Hitler, Marx or Freud wrote and spoke but the secularised and godless Jews can definitely not be blamed for the sum of the mess that was created. Secularised and godless Germans too must take responsibility for the mistakes of that era.

Mindlight... widespread secularism among Jews is easier to understand when you consider the fallout of messianic pretenders like Sabbatai Zevi. Then you can understand why an intellectually inclined Jew might want to avoid anything that looks like that kind of religious fanaticism, and might be attracted to more rational ways of viewing the world.

Indeed, Nazi Germany was the most scientifically advanced nation at the time. The US only got lucky because alot of talent left Europe when Hitler came to power, they came to the US and helped build the atom bomb.

Most Americans can't understand the humiliation that Germany faced after WWI at the hands of the French, and how the economic sanctions and war reparations against Germany compounded the worldwide depression's acute impacts on the German people. Nazism is not really just a German tragedy because it could happen in any country if there is enough fear and insecurity. Indeed, this is why we should be cautious of listening to any leader who promotes blood and soil ideology.

You clearly did not get the memo about the dangers of linking atheism and the Nazis. The fact is that atheism is not a tenet of nazism. The vast majority of nazis were Christian, indeed Hitler proclaimed himself to be Christian on more than one occasion.

He admits that he was an anti-semite. But why do you think I am defending him? Do you not consider it a matter of an open mind to see both sides of a story?

The facts remain that Karl Marx was a Jew as were Lenin and Trotsky. Such statements do not discount these facts.

Hitler repeatedly professed himself to be Christian, does that make Nazism a Christian creation?

I just finished reading a book by Israel Shahak, entitled, "Jewish History, Jewish Religion: the Weight of 3,000 years of History." Shahak was a Polish Ashkenazi Jew who escaped the concentration camps and made Aliyah to Israel. He served in the Israeli Defense Force and obtained his PHD in microbiology at the Hebrew University in Tel Aviv. He later came to the USA and lived and worked, then returned to Israel where he died in 2,001. He was an atheist and a humanist and a frequent critic of Israeli politics. As such he held no reverence for Judaism. As all critics of Israel, regardless of his Jewish pedigree, he has been denounced as a crackpot.

In the book he breaks Jewish history into 4 parts: biblical up to Babylonian exile; return to expulsion by Rome; a classical period of rabbinic control (900 AD to 1800 AD) and the modern period of today. It is the third period that his book is about. Jewish society around the world maintained its cohesiveness as a culture by totalitarian means. Jewish leaders saddled up to civil leaders to do their bidding in exchange for the use of civil power to control the Jewish people. Shahak points out that Jesus could not be crucified by the Jews which is why they persuaded Pilot to execute him. The rabbinical authorities taxed the Jewish people and gave a large percentage of that tax to the civil leaders, so it was profitable for the civil leaders to back the rabbinical leaders. This worked during the Classical period because the world was filled with kingdoms and empires which already had authoritarian governments. When the republics emerged in the 1800's rabbi's lost their power and Jews became free to think outside the Talmudic constraints.

His criticism of the Zionists (who are not necessarily religious, although the Orthodox and Hassadim want the totalitarian control again) is that they run Israel with the same totalitarian desire. He makes a distinction between Jews that are granted citizenship, hence have a type of democratic life, and the gentiles who are not allowed to vote, buy property or have any governmental office. The Zionists, according to Shahak, want a hegemony over all the Middle East, and, along with religious Jews, believe it is their divine call to conquer the Middle East and obtain all of the promised land from the Egyptian River to the Euphrates River. Shahak concludes that totalitarianism has a long streak in Jewish history and remains today.

I did my PhD on the atheist Nietzsche. His contribution to the Nazi mythology was the idea of the Uebermensch, the will to power, the notion of values created according to a power agenda and beyond the notions of good and evil and the notion of masters and slaves which was ultimately co-opted and distorted in the idea of a master race. In practice many Christians ended up parroting his ideas in their Nazi affiliation. That so many Christians allowed their intrinsic respect for authority to sweep them along with the Nazi party agenda is a lesson that the church must learn from though.
