As to this earth being “in mourning” (Rom 8:22), that is just what it ought to appear to us. But we ought to come into it all brightness from the scene of light and life! We ought really to expect nothing bright in this scene where we remember the Lord in His death, and yet we are all brightness and joy, because we do not belong to the earth and all our expectations are outside it.

If I walk faithfully here, it is a desert where nothing contributes to me, and I must refuse everything in it. I am set here as Christ’s witness to draw all my supplies from elsewhere. The harbor, where the supplies come in, is the only cheering spot in this dry and barren land where no water is. I must seek and receive everything from outside this desert island.

The OT saint sought and received favors in this scene (as also will the Kingdom saints). The mighty God fed him—the faithful one—with the finest of the wheat, and with honey out of the rock satisfied him. But now, in this dispensation, there is nothing here for the faithful one—his supplies are from above, and the power of Christ is to make him strong in weakness, so that a sense of weakness is actual gain! Thus he is looking to Christ above to realize His enablement in his circumstances and weakness, so that his enjoyment is not from this earth, but outside it with Him in heaven.

The OT saint had joy from God’s gifts to him—God’s power made things here contribute to him. But the Christian’s joy is in heaven and springs from what the Father has given him there. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Eph 1:3). He demands nothing from this world, but in the enablement of the Spirit he contributes to it, of the grace that nourishes and comforts himself outside it (2Co 1:3, 4).

Not only are my blessings in heaven, but I need the Holy Spirit’s enablement to rise above the sense of my infirmity down here. For this world, instead of contributing to me, makes me feel my weakness and need, and that I must rise out of it to find and enjoy my blessings (present and eternal possessions in heaven—poster). The very infirmity which this evil age makes me conscious of make me draw upon the power of the One “who is my Life” (Col 3:4), as the One outside it, passed into the heavens. Hence I take pleasure in the very infirmity which is exposed here, “that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2Co 12:9).

It is a difficult lesson to accept the fact that nothing here (that which is only earthly related—poster) contributes to the life of Christ in you. In OT times the power of God made things down here contribute to His own and infirmities were removed. But now it is: “When I am weak, then am I strong.”

We are sometimes satisfied with His help down here, but He helps us in order that He may lift us up to where He is Himself. He was down here in our circumstances, He can and does help us through them, but He desires to have us in present company and fellowship with Himself outside them.

Because of my infirmity I require His grace and mercy where I am. He is able to help me for He was once here; but He is above everything now and He would have me to know where there are no winds and waves, and to presently enjoy Him there. May each of us answer to His love more and more as we apprehend by the Spirit what it is to be with Him where He is, and to” set our affections” there!

- J B Stoney

Excert from MJS devotional for Dec. 1:

Thorough and intelligent establishment in the principle of grace concerning one’s justification (re-birth) is the necessary footing for reliance upon the same principle for one’s sanctification (growth). Unless the former is well settled, the latter will be badly unsettled.

The kingdom is within you...all that happened to Israel is a picture of our soul journey/process taking place within. The land being likened to our soul...dry and parched...hungry and thirsting soul seeks to find those refreshing waters...
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

To the one who believes in Me, it is just as the Scripture has said: 'Streams of living water will flow from within him.'"

For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

Hi PJL, and thanks for your reply! Amen, and we will soon see the Kingdom when it arrives in the physical!

Where does it say it is a physical kingdom? Jesud said His kingdom is within and not of this world. He said it comes not through observation like an over here or over there...something revealed by the spirit...inward/inner truth...
I understand your point, which is common to many, but the kingdom coming (Mat 6:10) is the earthly reign of the Lord Jesus and the saints at His next coming (Rev 20:4). This is when the entirety of it (presently only the Spirit in us is here - Christ and the rest of the Kingdom is presently in Heaven) finally arrives, which cannot be until the presence of the Lord is here. It will be on this present earth for a millennia and then this earth will be destroyed and the Kingdom will be eternally established on the new earth.

That which is of the Kingdom presently in us cannot be seen in this life, which is the meaning of "it commeth not with observation. Remember, our present physical body (corruptible) cannot inherit the Kingdom (1Co 15:50), but the new physical body (incorruptible), which is a spiritual body like the Lord has now (Luke 24:39), will.

Everything having to do with Jesus and all who inherit eternal life, the new heaven and earth and all within them will consist of a new type of physical matter which is spiritual and cannot be destroyed; incorruptible).

"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom" (Mat 16:28).

It is a spiritual body...the flesh profiteth nothing, Jesus said. It is the spirit that is eternal...which has to do with where we are perceiving from...the question God asked of Adam in the garden after the fall, "Where art thou?".
"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom" (Mat 16:28).

His kingdom has always been and is here now, if we can see/perceive it...internal truth revealed by spirit to spirit within...the same spirit that rose Jesus from the grave lives within us. As long as we see/perceive it as something separate/outside it is a kingdom divided...

Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God. 1 Corinthians 4:5

The revealing of this kingdom is within...to look to the sky is by observation with the five senses... but the heart, mind and spirit...renewed mind...Paul said we have the mind of Christ...and the mystery being revealed Christ in you, the hope of glory...

2 Corinthians 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Gods glory has always filled the whole earth...and cannot be seen until HE reveals it to our inner most Be-ing...This body/tent of flesh is the tabernacle of God (where is that currently located?) and HIS spirit dwells and HIS kingdom has never left...just Adam's/man's eyesight was changed in the garden and it blocked from view of the spiritual eye all that WAS and is to come (when we can see/sight restored...) The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Matthew 6:22

Adam lost God's glory...spiritual truth of who we are...and where we are (when we awaken from that deep slumber that was placed upon Adam in the garden)...HE can only give us what be hope for in faith according to HIS promises of truth...

The "flesh" here means human nature and reasoning and efforts, not the physical body. This is in the context of communion with the Lord and partaking of His life and not of His body, as some of the Jews were concluding (Jhn 6:48-63).

It is the spirit that is eternal
I agree, but the new body that Jesus said He had which consisted of flesh and bone (Luke 24:39) will also be eternal, even for the unbeliever, via the resurrection which has to do with an indestructible physical body, which is what the spiritual body is. Spirit only has no body ("a spirit hath not flesh and bones"), that's why He said He had a spirit and a body.

Also, without a body those who enter the lake of fire would not feel torment, and all will have an indestructible body (Jhn 5:29). I also am aware that many believers do not know these things, but that's okay.

When Mary Magdalene came upon Jesus just after His resurrection, he told her not to touch him because he had not yet ascended to our Father....which is a spiritual truth relative to our soul's journey/process taking place within...as is Jesus continued on the earth in that body for 40 days before ascending...

Mary knew and loved Jesus personally in the flesh. If she had touche Him, she would have perceived something different to the truth of the finished work of Christ...the ascending back to heaven. She would have believed in Jesus the flesh and blood man, not the ascending (eternal) spirit...

John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Every path that comes from heaven leads back to heaven.

Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom...

All that happened to Israel in the O.T. is the narrative of our soul's journey/process taking place within...our soul likened to the land, entering into...through the door/His rest/the city..."but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst...."

Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

ADDENDUM: The scripture you gave regarding doubting Thomas...Jesus said "for a spirit hath not flesh and bones"...He had not yet ascended to the father...Thomas was doubting...Mary was not...there is a deep truth here...

Lazarus, though he be physically dead, came out of the grave at the sound of Jesus' voice...

The body is an earthen vessel that will return to the ground, dust. The spirit lives...God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. We are made in God's image...and that truth is within, for the flesh is nothing but a covering up of God's glory...In the garden, Adam suddenly (at the change of eyesight/perception and found himself naked and ashamed. God made them a covering of skin...

Romans 7 speaks to the two/duality within carnal/spirit...and one of those must die for the other to live...lest a seed fall to the ground and die...

Of course, it's okay that we have different understandings on the issue of the new body, so until another subject--chat ya latter!

Of course it is...how else would we enter in to reason...There is much more to 'see' by the spirit of Christ within...though it be something we already know....being renewed within...from the beginning.
