I am having major anxiety tonight because I am overwhelmed by the meaninglessness of life. If you read Ecclesiastes in the Bible, you will see that the ultimate maximum level of wisdom that God has allowed humans to comprehend and have on the earth, is that it's all meaningless. Everything comes to nothing, we all die, that's it. That's what Solomon concludes. So I'm looking around today at everyone while I'm in school like..."Does anyone else think about this?? Does anyone else think about how we could die tomorrow? Is anyone else thinking about the depths of outer space, about God's creation?" There's like this deeper level of something that I'm understanding and no one else is, all of my friends hate conversation like that. No one wants to go deep, everyone just wants to live their petty normal lives. Which I have nothing against, I like a normal life too. But lately I'm overwhelmed by this revelation...Is there anyone out there who thinks like this too? And not just sort of. All of the time. Like, you're a philosopher or whatever you might call it. If you are, thank you for letting me know I'm not alone in this, and pleeeeease hit me up. Let's be friends. Let's talk. :D I love to engage in really deep conversation like this and I looove when people ask me my opinion on really deep topics about God and stuff or ask me questions.

Ohh...Introductions. Sorry I got carried away. My name is Eliza, I'm in college and I'm going to be 19 on the 7th. Nice to meet you :)

Edit: Thanks for the replies. I hear what you all are saying. I should have worded my post better. I do know that God and His way are the main focal point of this life. This life isn't totally meaningless, because our meaning comes in Jesus Christ, our Savior. But..As we are on this earth, we can have the knowledge, wisdom and understanding to know that nothing matters on this earth (except GOD). And that drives me crazy!! The thought is insane...It's beautiful, it's so deep, and it overwhelms me completely! I'm not really looking into the scripture about it guys,(That doesn't mean I'm not reading the scripture guys, don't get me wrong.) I'm just thinking more on the revelation. Or...realization, I should call it. That's what I want to talk about. Nothing under the sun is new, that's what the Bible also says. So all of these humans just keep repeating the same patterns over and over, get a job, have a family, etc etc, but then they are struck with DEATH. Which no one can comprehend fully or understand or wants to acknowledge or think about. Except for me (or so it seems), and I am tired of not having anyone to talk to about this! So again, if you think like this too, I will be so glad to talk with you. Message me!

I’ve always felt that Solomon meant that the search for the meaning of life on earth is meaningless because meaning is only found in God, which is why I seek and long for a deeper communion - one beyond the emotions, beyond reason, deep in the center of my being - so searching creation is meaningless (but what do I know?).

Welcome to CF! It sounds like you have a great thirst for knowledge and meaning, and I hope that you will find enlightenment, fellowship and friendship here.

Did you read Ecclesiastes 12:13?

It says,

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

You are exactly correct. We are here to learn to "Fear God, and keep his commandments" and that certainly is not meaningless.

Welcome to CF! We do intros and welcomes in this thread, but you can find lots of forum areas to post about this.

Please stop reading Ecclesiastes... not everything in there is true. (Everything he says is truly what he feels right then...though). "Vanity vanity all is vanity" ? Nah that's not a true statement.

Breathe. God is in control. You might just be waiting and growing right now, God still has plans.

You're not alone lol

Having knowledge, gaining wisdom, and thinking about deep meaningful conversations are great. But here's where people get sucked in, it starts to come to a point where it consumes you so much that you miss the point of the information. Observe Jesus. Jesus is God that was in the form of man. Jesus have all-knowledge, and yet, the most pressing thing while he was human wasn't that he was smart, but that he was wise. It wasn't that he surpass the knowledge of the Pharisees, but that he was more loving. He didn't speak so much words, but when He spoke, He spoke with authority. Although he had knowledge and wisdom that surpassed any human being, He was that humble that even that fact wasn't the most pressing attribute about Him. The most outstanding one is His love for us.

So just an encouragement, that the point of all this information is to know the heart of God. So gathering up all the information is meaningless, if you end up not knowing God's heart, if you can't love, if it can't be shared to others, if it can't help others know God's heart too.Sometimes I feel alone when I have so much information and I don't have much people that I can talk too. I'm sure Jesus felt that way too, but instead of just chilling at the temple, he went out and ministered to the lost. He never got comfortable talking to those that had more biblical knowledge, he humbled himself because He knew the purpose of Him, and the purpose of all the biblical knowledge is to call the lost. He put in ways that people who are not able to have deep convos can still understand God's heart, either showing signs or through parables. Have that serve of the reminded when we do get overwhelmed with the Word, to take comfort on the simplicity of the message behind it and have the humility and bravery to share it with others.

Well, maybe Ecclesiastes reads like that, but we aren't under or obligated to it. We are born-again Believers in Jesus as Savior and Lord. That's it! You read the Book of Romans, OK?

The Book of Ecclesiastes can be trusted. You just need to put what it says in perspective. Check out this video here by Bible Project.

Now I really want a cigarette.

Yeah, not sure why they had to have a guy smoking in that video.
I apologize deeply if it caused you to have an urge to smoke. Please do not smoke, my friend.

I think they were depicting Mr man of the world.

Mostly just kidding, but thanks. :)

The way I see it, it would cause me more distress these days than it would do me good, since I now know the real danger involved. I just don't do it.

And FWIW, cancer would be the least of my worries.

Hi; good to see you.

Ecclesiastes sets the scene for the world as it indeed is without a personal saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus; it's good to read it in conjunction with the New Testament; e.g., 'But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption'

Most interestingly, in another of the Old Testament's wisdom books, Proverbs, is all about the wisdom of God; in 30.4 is says: 'Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?'

It's wonderful to see the unfolding panorama of the mind of God in Scripture. :)
