Get the really guilty ones, and cook them alive. And feed them to the rest of them.

Suspended the eighth amendment and force people who aren’t guilty to engage in cannibalism. A highly ethical idea if I have ever seen one.

Legally punish not only pedophiles, but those who hide and cover up the crimes of pedophiles.
No matter that TFN-13 thinks that what you said is inapplicable, you are quite correct. In my book, those who hide and protect paedophiles are guilty of aiding and abetting the abuser and no better than the abuser.
A good place to start rounding up abusers and those who protect them would be the Catholic church.
Not only the clergy who sexually abused children but those who physically abused young people as well. The nuns who abused young single girls who had fallen pregnant and made to work at the infamous Magdelene laundries in Dublin spring to mind. These unfortunate young girls suffered physical abuse often with undertones of sexual abuse. These laundries also gave some of the priests who visited these laundries the opportunities to sexually prey on these young women. Many victims of the abuses by the caretakers of the Catholic church are still crying out for justice.
The link tells the disturbing story of some of these unfortunate young girls. It shows just how powerful the grip the Catholic church had on the mainly Catholic population of Ireland and how it even took away the love and empathy a family should have for a family member who had, in this case, fallen pregnant out of wedlock. Shame not only on the Catholic church but also on the secular authorities who were aware of what was happening but did nothing.

As a pedophile is someone with a sexual attraction to children (pedophilia), who may or may not have harmed a child, this would be unethical because you are proposing killing people who have not harmed a child.

See also statistic 5, 6, and 9 in the OP. Even if you did mean "Death sentence for sexual abusers," it would not make much impact, because most perpetrators are not those who have already been caught.

I'm sure he meant those who are found guilty of pedophilia.

You think paedophilia is a hoot?

Some of the responses are.

They way we deal with it is pretty humorous in a way, as are the ways we deal with most problems. "It's to laugh".

Pedophilia is the sexual attraction to children, and it is separate from sexual abuse:

Roy Moore is not a pedophile -- why it matters | Practical Ethics

Opinion | Roy Moore is not a pedophile

A pedophile is someone with that attraction, and the fact is, most abuse is not perpetrated by those with an attraction to children (see OP, or here). To use the improper terminology spreads myths, and pushes pedophiles away from help and towards the risk factors that can lead to a child being harmed. If you disagree, then come up with some reasoning for why you disagree, rather than sticking to the wrong terminology and calling it right.

This is disgusting reasoning. Do you realize that how we deal with it means more children are raped? Do you think rape is funny? I was abused, and this kind of garbage reasoning is why it continues. You think this is funny.

I stand corrected, but I think we could have an interesting semantic argument here.

Some of the responses were funny, but I understand if you don't think so. "It's to laugh" means the solutions to this and other problems are quite absurd. Child abuse isn't viewed so much as a problem but as an opportunity to create yet another costly and ineffective social program (imo of course). Child abuse is a criminal act regardless of the mental state of the perp.

No, people really do care what happens to their kids. It's a libertarian fantasy that anyone wants to waste government money for no reason.

Also, social spending in general isn't nearly as wasteful as you think. The two biggest social programs, by far, are also the two most popular programs in the country: Social Security and Medicare.

Sure, it is criminal. But here is the thing: Treating it as if it is exclusively a criminal problem is a surefire way to enabling it. We would do better treating it as a preventable public health issue, like smoking. The research we have shows we need to come up with preventative solutions, not reactive ones.

I would disagree.

Sexual attraction to innocent, vulnerable children IS harmful to children. It's predatory and preys on the innocent and vulnerable.

In regards to the title of this thread, ending the preying on of innocent, vulnerable children, starts with protecting the most vulnerable from the predatory appetites of those who "prey" on these little ones.

These innocent, vulnerable children and their well being and safety has priority over anything regarding those who prey on these innocent ones. THAT is where "ethics" begins:

Protecting the innocent.

Everything else is secondary.

I would disagree.

Sexual attraction to innocent, vulnerable children IS harmful to children. It's predatory and preys on the innocent and vulnerable.
Let me introduce you to my chart:
venn%20diagram.jpg

Sexual attraction falls clearly in that blue area, where you are talking about the orange area.

In other words, if it is attraction in the same way that heterosexual men are attracted to women, it is not predatory at all, and brings up a fairly large crisis for those with that attraction. Mainly, they want to be emotionally/romantically/sexually connected with a child, but doing so would be unethical and harmful, so they are essentially stuck with a sexual attraction they can never act upon. Plenty of research shows there exist many non-offending pedophiles, people who have a sexual attraction and have never harmed a child. It is quite logical to assume that sexual abuse is not even the result of attraction when two-thirds of abusers are heterosexual.

So, could you explain how exactly having an unchosen attraction to children makes someone a risk to children? Are you a therapist? Have you read research? Do you know there is a causative link between attraction an abuse? Where is that link demonstrated?

Do you disagree based on how you feel, or do you disagree with the facts that I provided? I can cite multiple sources for all of this:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/299657027_Non-Offending_Pedophiles

http://http//www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/19317611.2013.795921

http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/13552600.2015.1056263

http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/ncjrl/pdf/I C A C/2012 - October 15-16/A - Child inappropriate contentography Offenses Are a Valid Diagnostic Indicator of Pedophilia.PDF

Do you want me to dig up some other articles, or is that sufficient to support my claims?

In regards to the title of this thread, ending the preying on of innocent, vulnerable children, starts with protecting the most vulnerable from the predatory appetites of those who "prey" on these little ones.
And that begs the question: Who are the people that abuse children? Are they strangers? No, 93% are those we know and trust. Are they pedophilic? Mostly no, two-thirds are not. Are they all middle-age adults? No, half are juveniles themselves. I could swear I addressed all of those facts in the OP, but just in case, you can drop by my site where I explain - with full references - how sexual abuse happens:

How Abuse Happens

No, there are not ads. No, I do not ask for donations. I am here to discuss, and frankly, re-posting the same content over and over is part of why I wrote that site in the first place.

These innocent, vulnerable children and their well being and safety has priority over anything regarding those who prey on these innocent ones. THAT is where "ethics" begins:

Protecting the innocent.

Everything else is secondary.
Great, so how do we do that? Do we protect children when we ignore the facts of how abuse happens? Do we protect children by focusing the bulk of our money and attention on 5-10% of the problem and ignore prevention? Do we protect children by stigmatizing a sexual attraction people did not choose and can never act on?
