• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Start your day by praying to the Lord. Also, if you aren't already, close your day with a prayer to the Lord. The Lord will take away the things that are weighing on you. The verse "don't let the sun go down on your anger" is quite relevant here, as it teaches us to resolve things each day and not let them fester. Also, when thinking of the future, "sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof", refers to taking things a day at a time. You're probably either carrying things over from the past few days, weeks, or even years, and awake each day with that stuff weighing on you. Or you're anticipating things in advance that may or may not happen. There's no need to look so far in advance. As Jesus tells us, "take no thought on what we shall eat, or what we shall drink wherewithal shall we be clothed, for the Father knows you have need of these things. Does he not feed the sparrows, or clothe the grass of the field? You are more than sparrows." *This isn't exact quoting I don't think, just off the top of my head.

CF members,
Any advice on managing high morning anxiety (?) I've been reading about cortisol spikes in the morning, and believe I'm experiencing something of that nature. Looking for advisement.. Thanks, peace.

You can first start off by eliminating potential triggers and stimulants for the anxiety, so remove distractions, start with the Word and prayer, prepare for the morning the night before, declutter, change diet etc. If you still feel some sort of reaction or if you find its not subsiding, I would go see a doctor and let them know so that they can do a check-up.

change diet..

MsKrisKris (et al), Hi..any insights in to this.. I haven't had any alcohol, caffeine, or chocolate for 6 weeks because I've read that they can contribute to anxiety.. My diet was already pretty healthy prior to their elimination.. Any experience(s) with calming breakfast foods (?) My morning anxiety (specifically) is getting bad..

(Incidentally, saw a doc last month & my blood work was ok.. including thyroid.)

I don't eat breakfast, I just drink teas because for me personally, eating solid food right when waking up has put a-lot of stress to the body. So if your body is stress, your mind will be stressed. Especially bad carbs. Proteins, vegs, and fats puts less stress so like omelets with spinach are a typical go-to food.Herbal teas ( boiled) are good too. I usually like boiling cinnamon tea, since cinnamon have calming factors.Keep yourself hydrated as well.

Diet can be a factor in so many ways, both good and bad. I recommend some internet research on the Mayo Clinic or Cleveland Clinic or WebMD websites. Sometimes they talk about certain foods or supplements that some have claimed help with various conditions. Many experts say that deep breathing exercises helps to calm us down. I have tried that once in a while. Sometimes it helps. You could also go to Youtube and start the day by watching a few of your favorite hymns that have beautiful nature scenes in the background. That might help, though I like to do such at night, but if could work just as well in the morning.
