Will Pope Benedict be Pope again?

I was searching for some quotes by pope benedict xvi today for another topic when i came across this cryptic quote on an entirely different subject that i dont quite get....it comes in the form of a interview between a Mr Seewald and Pope Benedict

"SEEWALD: Do you see yourself as the last Pope of the old world or the first of the new?

BENEDICT: I would say both.

SEEWALD: As a bridge, a kind of connecting element between the two worlds?

BENEDICT: I don’t belong to the old world anymore, but the new one in reality hasn’t yet begun."

What the heck is this all about?

What an odd question to ask and an even stranger answer???



But it does raise some questions of my own

What is this new world?

If pope benedict is the last pope of this old world and the first pope of the new world that has not yet begun... where is pope francis in all of this

And when the interviewer asks where the francis pontificate fits in perhaps as merely the outward sign of a epoch turning point things get even more strange as he talks about earthly divisons and the abandoning of christian tradition in the church and the decline of christianity in europe but is carefull to avoid answering the question

For some reason i get the image of our lords words

So what is going on here? Would anyone like to hazard a guess or a theory

Sounds like he is speaking about the world to come. The one we all aspire to. I don't see how this makes a lot of sense in earthly terms. But this was from 2016 and I feel Pope Benedict has been slowly withdrawing from the world as we know it for quite some time. ( I know. Offbeat post. Just my thoughts).

I don't recommend the book. I bought it, and it was a big disappointment. In my opinion, his answers paint an overly rosy picture of the current state of the world and the current state of the Church, which is uncharacteristic of the writings of Pope Benedict XVI.

But for the quote in the blog, Fr. Z said it was his "on the fly translation from the Italian (not from the German original)." But here's how the same part of the interview appears in the book:

Hmm i can see how "both" can be read as between the times in english... i wonder which is closer to the original german as between the times can be interperated differently to and the same as "both" i guess.

I'm only speculating, but perhaps "the new world isn't really here yet" means Francis hadn't yet revealed or accomplished his agenda fully at that time.

Ok so if pope benedict is both or the pope that is inbetween the two worlds..i.e the last pope of the old world of which he no longer is pope no longer part of and the first of the new that has not yet begun...where does that place francis who is pope in this world that has not ended yet but of which benedict says he is the last pope... i am confused

Maybe pope francis is a sort of stop gap papal member of the extended papacy of benedict as bishop ganswein said as the old world passes away.

I am not calling into question the actual papacy of francis. What i dont understand is where it fits in with pope beneditcs answers in the book last testiment

Now i have been mulling over this in my mind for a good while now and came up with maybe a 2+2=5 scenario but hey sometimes 2+2 does = 5 right

If you read it and remember i mentioned the jesuit oath and how maybe pope francis was going to war with secular society liberalism protestantism and everything anticatholic.. now what if francis is pope but only as part of the benedict papacy as archbishop ganswein stated an extended papacy commissioned by benedict to have a jesuit who took the oath to be to a protestant a fellow protestant to a liberal a fellow liberal to a modernist a fellow modernist to a muslim a fellow muslim to a jew a fellow jew etc in order to destroy them

If pope benedict is the last pope of this world and the first of the next... but he is no longer part of this world then the church needs an interim pope an administrative pope and if the church has to follow benedict into the next world it would make sense that she needs to be purified as part of the harvest at the end of this world

I think we have to stop putting so much credence in the supposed prophecy of St. Malachy. It's almost like we believe that as Scripture or something. And we think, because of that, the end is neigh and we just have to have an antipope now. Give it up folks.

While i do give it some creedence... i never had it in mind, there are plenty other more profound prophecies out there that talk of a restoration and a holy pope... no i never thought of the malachy prophecy when i was writing any of my posts

While i do give it some creedence... i never had it in mind, there are plenty other more profound prophecies out there that talk of a restoration and a holy pope... no i never thought of the malachy prophecy when i was writing any of my posts

I was not being critical of you, just mildly critical of the collective 'us'. I sometimes find myself running with apocalyptic thinking. I have to tell myself to get real. Maranatha.
