Moses, Elijah and Enoch are the most likely candidates for Revelation's two witnesses, with most scholars believing the two witnesses are Moses and Elijah. In Matthew 17, when Jesus took Peter, James, and John to the mount and was transfigured in front of them, Moses and Elijah appeared with Him. Enoch was not there. The transfiguration can be seen as a picture of the coming of the two witnesses--Moses and Elijah.

Malachi 4:5 predicts that Elijah will come as one of the two witnesses: "See I will send you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord comes." Elijah was taken up into heaven by a whirlwind and chariot of fire (see 2 Kings 2:9-11); he did not physically die. Likewise, Moses, did not die a normal death. The Bible tells us that God preserved Moses' body (see Deuteronomy 34:5,6; Jude 9). The accounts of their deaths further corroborate the selection of Moses and Elijah as the two witnesses.

The powers given these two witnesses in Revelation 11:3-6, are the very same ones they were each given during their lifetime. The power to shut up the sky so it didn't rain was given to Elijah in 1 Kings 17:1. Moses was given the power to turn water into blood, in Exodus 7:17.

I find that to be a pretty solid argument.

I was wondering if it wouldn't be Elijah and Elias, like John the Baptist and Yahushua Christ. But I suppose that wouldn't make sense.

I hope to meet all of them, Enoch too.

I think I'm rambling. Good article! Especially the reference between Deuteronomy 34:5-6 and Jude 1:9.

Moses died and was buried.

Deu 34:7 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

Deu 34:8 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

Rom 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

Yes, Moses died and was buried. He also appeared at Jesus transfiguration of Jesus coming into His kingdom in Mt.17:1-3. In addition to the powers given to Him in Rev. 11 being the very same ones he had when he was alive.

Old and New Testement during the French revolution.

Rev 11
11:7-10 At the end of the 1,260 years when the “two witnesses” “have finished” prophesying “clothed in sackcloth” the beast comes out of the “bottomless pit” to “make war against them,” “and kill them.” The excesses and corruption of the Papal Church System and the church-supported aristocracy got so bad that their firmest supporter, France, because their worst enemy. This nation not only rejected Catholicism but God Himself; they cast out all morals and everything Christian and set up a new religion glorifying man, reason, and intellect of gods.

During “The Reign of Terror” in France, the Bible was not only openly rejected but was also forbidden and publicly burned. For “three days and a half” (symbolizing 3.5 literal years) the Bible would appear to be “dead.” For three and a half years the Revolutionaries of France did all in their power to oppose and destroy the Bible.

France embraced an atheistic philosophy/religion and became part of the “great city” of false religions. Its characteristics are symbolized by “Sodom and Egypt where also our lord was crucified.” “Sodom” is a notorious Biblical symbol for sexual perversion. Genesis 19:4-11; Jude 7. “Egypt” symbolizes atheism: “Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice to let Israel go?” Exodus 5:2. “Where also our Lord was crucified” represents Christ, crucified in the person of His faithful followers when they are persecuted. John 13:20; Matthew 25:40, 45. In Hebrews 6:4-6 those who once loved Christ and are guilty of willful apostasy are said to “crucify… the Son of God afresh.” France during the French Revolution embraced sexual licentiousness and atheism, rejected the Bible, and persecuted all Christians, both the true and the false together.

The case for Elijah isn't bad, as the Bible specifically names him as an end-times prophet. Moses, however, is pure speculation, and the fact that Revelation had the witnesses getting killed at the end would mean that Moses would have to die a second time, and be resurrected again, which seems a little excessive.

John the Baptist came in the spirit and power of Elijah but was not actually Elijah , which is why he denied it when he was asked. The same thing will happen when two fellas show up in the near future , they won't actually be Elijah and Moses , they will simply be fulfilling the role of Elijah and Moses. There ya go!...that was too easy wasn't it.

The same thing will happen when two fellas show up in the near future ,

Two fellas show up in everyone's neighborhood all around the world.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!

"After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.

He sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where He himself was about to go.

Two olive trees, two lampstands.

Two of one kind of thing, two of another kind.

The Bible, and the Holy Spirit.

Empowering two pairs of 144,000 sealed servants of God.

Moses, however, is pure speculation, and the fact that Revelation had the witnesses getting killed at the end would mean that Moses would have to die a second time, and be resurrected again, which seems a little excessive.

I think it was HMfJ that was just talking about this.

"And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,

Follow the Lamb
Wherever He goes.

Anybody that God chooses. Why worry about who it will be?
There is no reason to "worry about it". One of the two witnesses is most likely Elijah, since Elijah comes before the Day of the Lord.

On a similar, but separate, major isssue, the false prophet will likely claim to be Elijah reincarnated - as Judaism believes in reincarnation. And Jews expect Elijah to precede the messianic age.

The second of the two witnesses is - I don't know.

Enoch & Elijah the only two prophets that never saw physical death, Hebrews 9:27 "It's appointed unto man once to die", this will be fulfilled when they lay physically dead in the street of Jerusalem for 3 1/2 days.

The two anointed witnesses/olive branches can be seen in Zechariah 4:11-14

The "Golden Oil" that is poured out of themselves, are the future plagues upon the earth as seen in the book of revelation.

"It's appointed unto man once to die"

1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

When the Lord returns, there will be a whole generation of Christians whose bodies will not endure physical death.

Moses and Elijah were both clearly seen by Peter, James and John and obviously had to be in the flesh.

Quasar92

Ok lets ask ourselves a question here , how did Peter James and John know it was Elijah and Moses ?...Did Jesus tell them ? , or were they waring t shirts with their names written on the front. Or did Peter James and John have photographs of them so they could recognise them ?

The Bible makes it clear who they are. Where then is your question? Jesus introduced them.

They did not know because the two witnesses are not Moses and Elijah, they are the Old and New Testements. The reason that people say it is Moses and Elijah is to fit thier misinterpertation of scripture aboout the prophecies of the Bible. See post #6

FYI, the Scriptures refute you. Review the following:

Mt.17:1 "After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

4Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

That says nothing about them being the two witnesses of Revelation
Revelation 11:3
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

That is 2300 years
