I'll try to explain. Fear keeps one on the straight and narrow...hence the threat of hell..or, we are by design made to fear, that is unless we follow a popular easy/unrealistic take on the Bible...see? Fear...something God chose to do, not me. If one is keeping the commandments and such as we have talked about here we can certainly be less fearful, but stop fearing...no, not me.

That's for those who have turned the scripture into something unreal, the ones that claim they are saved by basically saying they are saved, "I accepted it and I have faith" and technically that's all they need to do to get to heaven. Those need not do the works Christ clearly said we must do or else, or not do what we are clearly told not to, or else... no need to prove their faith, hence nothing for them to fear.

"Work out our own salvation with trembling and fear". Meaning, always fear, always be aware, always question ourselves, our motives. It ain't over till it's over, and until then, be fearful/careful always. And that's the type fear that means "fear" not something else as someone mentioned earlier, like "reverence" type fear and what have you. Not sure if it was you who mentioned that or not. To be more precise, in order to prove what I say, fear type fear will make us tremble.

Just a few Psalms on the subject...I had to stop copying because there were so many verses on it. :)

Psalm 31:19
Verse Concepts
How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You, Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of men!

Psalm 67:4
Verse Concepts
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy; For You will judge the peoples with uprightness And guide the nations on the earth. Selah.

Psalm 112:1
Verse Concepts
Praise the LORD! How blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who greatly delights in His commandments.

Psalm 115:13
Verse Concepts
He will bless those who fear the LORD, The small together with the great.

Psalm 128:1-4
How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, You will be happy and it will be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine Within your house, Your children like olive plants Around your table. read more.

Proverbs 10:27
Verse Concepts
The fear of the LORD prolongs life, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.

Proverbs 19:23
Verse Concepts
The fear of the LORD leads to life, So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.

Proverbs 22:4
Verse Concepts
The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches, honor and life.

Proverbs 28:14
Verse Concepts
How blessed is the man who fears always, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

Except again, "fear" of God does not mean being terrified of him. You may need to go back to the Hebrew to see it because English does not do justice to the meaning of God's awesomeness.

A relationship based on modern English usage of "fear" and terror is not the type of relationship he wants with us. There would be no point, and would be in opposition to God's character.

In fact, it's more in line with Satan's desire to deceive us into believing that God is a vengeful, evil being who wishes to do us harm, and controls us through terror and force.

Nope, that's not God.

Would you value a relationship with a person who was only with you because they were terrified to leave, a person who obeyed you solely because they were scared of what you might do to them if they didn't?

Terrified? you just upped things a notch...I never used that term, why would you do that? See, that would make all I said sound unreasonable/unbiblical if one were to see I'm saying be terrified of God. Seems a little tricky what you tried to accomplish there.

I was very clear in my post the whys to my claims, do with them as you will.
