Does 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 teach that we are not saved by faith?

#3 forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. What is this, asking for forgiveness?
#4 Isa 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Deut 6 Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is One
# 5Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
#6 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. :amen:

Yes your scriptures are true. But they speak of the real Jesus. Because Jesus is clear at Matt 7:21-23--Any worker of iniquity( practice of sin or willfull sin) will hear these words at judgement--yet they believe( Matt 7:22-23)--thus Matt 7:21 goes along with all of the scriptures you posted to make a truth. The only ones on earth who do powerful works, excorcisms, and the such, do all of the things you have shown, but they practice a sin. ( 1Corinthians 10:21) Hebrews 10:26-- No sacrifice left for any who practice a sin.

Denying the different tenses of salvation is hardcore Eternal Security. A person should prayerfully read about 10-15 articles that are in favor of the subject before folding their arms and shaking their head “no” to it.
I don't know. I believe the Bible and your the only one I know who uses this verbage, so I'm going with myself.

Pride can be a downfall.

The positive statement in Matt 7:21 is the highlighted words; “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. One must become a new creation in Christ I agree with, but it is a growing process to be fruitful. No one enters the kingdom of God full grown in their walk. Fact is as Paul said, we all are pressing on toward the high call of God in Christ Jesus, no one has arrived! I agree with most of the verses of those that believe in a perfect sinless state, but do not believe in any of their conclusions that saints are perfect in their walk as a Christian. We are perfect in Jesus, not perfect in our actions or obedience. Even you posted the Lord's model prayer and in it, it say forgive us our trespasses, what are trespasses but sins, unintentional actions, and offenses according to Strong's concordance. So Jesus was mistaken or what when He told the disciples this model prayer, were they saved?

Different Tenses of Salvation:

Past tense:
Titus 3:5
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
Present Tense:
Philippians 2:12
"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."
2 Peter 1:10
"be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure..."
Future Tense:
"Our salvation is now nearer than when we first believed" (Romans 13:11).

Greek word meaning from Thayer's Greek Lexicon: sōzō 1-to save, keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction 1a) one (from injury or peril)1b1) to preserve one who is in danger of destruction, to save or rescue 1b) to save in the technical biblical sense
1b1) negatively 1b1a) to deliver from the penalties of the Messianic judgment 1b1b) to save from the evils which obstruct the reception of the Messianic deliverance Part of Speech: verb

Looking at the meaning of being saved, keep safe and sound, rescue from danger or destruction; to save in the technical biblical sense, to deliver from the penalties of the Messianic judgment. does this sound like the meaning you would use from this well known and accepted author? Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit. :amen: sure makes me want to shout praises  and clap

It would have been great had you answered the question, which verse you posted, that I asked from 1 John 1:9 if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It surely is showing there are going to be some sin to confess, is that not true or what? Please answer, no answer no reply needed. Thanks

I didn't catch your question before because I was busy and I was quickly replying. So I am not honestly trying to avoid it or anything. But to be fair, you did not address Matthew 19:17. Jesus says, "...if you will enter into life, keep the commandments" (Matthew 19:17). What do you think Jesus meant by those words?

As for your question in regards to 1 John 1:9:
Well, to answer: Nowhere does 1 John 1:9 says that you sin every five seconds and then you confess anymore than you do so every hour or every day. There is no time frame attached to 1 John 1:9. But 1 John 1:7 (the context) does give us a clue that we should not sin every five seconds or every hour or every day because it says if we walk in the light as he is in the light, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 2:4 says if we say we know Him [Christ] and do not keep His commandments, we are a liar and the truth is not in us. So obviously we cannot be sinning day in and day out. Proverbs 28:13 says that he that confesses and forsakes sin shall have mercy. In Matthew 12:41, Jesus says that the Ninevites will rise up in judgment against this generation because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. If you were to turn to Jonah chapter 3, you would see in verses 6-10 that the King of the Ninevites had told his people to:

(a) Cry out unto God (i.e. Repentance).
(b) Forsake their evil ways (i.e. The Natural Fruits of Repentance).

When God had seen that the Ninevites had forsaken their wickedness, THAT is when God decided to not bring judgment or wrath upon them (Jonah 3:6-10).

Also, 2 Corinthians 7:1 says that we are to cleanse ourselves from ALL filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God. So obviously 1 John 1:9 is not a .... "I can sin today and then confess it next week" type concept. 1 Peter 4:2 says we are to not live the rest of our time here (on this Earth) to the lusts of the flesh (sin) but to the will of God.

Think man! Washing and regeneration of the Holy Ghost is what happens when you first come to the Lord by admitting that your a sinner and asking Him to forgive you (believing that He died and was risen on your behalf). This is the beginning of your salvation! It says, "...according to his mercy he saved us." SAVED. Past Tense! It is not talking about salvation in the present tense. Paul speaks of salvation in the present tense when he says work out your salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). Washing and regeneration is what happens when you first are saved. The regeneration does not keep happening.

Rom 4:1-4 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. Simply put salvation by grace through faith alone, without faith it is impossible to please God, Heb 11:6

This is talking about "Initial Salvation" (Justification) again! Keep reading... it then talks about "Continued Salvation" (Sanctification)!

21 "And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness." (Romans 4:21-22).

So belief and then comes action.
I never said that it was any other way.
God's grace and then comes performance because God lives within a person.
No works, means no God living inside a person.
No God, means no salvation.
Because God is holy and He desires to do His holy will through His people.
That is why one needs works to be saved. It is confirmation that they have God living in them (Who is the source of their salvation). 1 John 5:12 confirms this.
Do you not see it?

What is the condition of having the seal of God?

Scripture says, God the Father has set his seal upon those who labor for the meat that endures unto everlasting life.

"Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed." (John 6:27).

Are you laboring for the meat that endures unto everlasting life?
What was the meat that Christ had in John 4?

Anyways, what is a guarantee?

Guarantee receipts normally have conditions which you can normally read in the ”fine print”. If you get a guarantee receipt for a certain product and you would like to make a claim, the store might request that you bring both the product and the receipt with you before they are willing to look at your claim. They might also request that you do this within a certain time frame and that you state what’s wrong with the product. Another example could be if someone buys you a bus ticket which guarantees you to get to a certain city PROVIDED that 1) you don’t throw away your ticket, 2) that you embark the right bus on the right time, and 3) that you STAY ON the bus until it arrives at the city. The BUS will arrive at the city as promised, but the question is if YOU will choose to be among the bus passengers.

1 Samuel 16:14
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

Psalms 5:11
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me

Again, circumcision was a ”seal” for those under the old covenant.

Romans 4:11
And he received the sign of circumcision, a SEAL of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also.

This seal WAS broken and guaranteed nothing when those who were circumcised broke the covenant and were cut off from the people of God.

Romans 2:25-27
25 For circumcision verily profiteth, IF thou keep the law: but IF thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. 26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? 27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

As you can see, this seal was conditioned on continued faith and obedience. The Holy Spirit marks us as God’s children of the new covenant but if we abandon the faith, and/or live in disobedience then the Spirit of God no longer remains in us and we are no longer sealed. Circumcised (sealed) jews were broken off through unbelief.

Acts 5:32
And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

John 14:15-16
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever

Romans 8:9-10
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, IF so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And IF Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

God speaks of the Israelites who ”grieved” His Holy Spirit in their rebellion. These Jews were cut off from the promise of entering God’s rest and they became God’s enemies.

Isaiah 63:10
But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: THEREFORE he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. —

Isaiah 63:14
As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD caused him to rest: so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

In the NT the ”rest” is the eternal rest that all believers will attain. The book of Hebrews continually speak of the promise of eternal rest, in combination with WARNINGS to believers not to miss out on this promised rest through hardening their hearts in unbelief, just as the Israelites did who rebelled against God during the Exodus (Read Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 10).

1) Matt 6:33-- Therefore, keep on seeking- FIRST- the kingdom and his( YHVH(Jehovah) righteousness and all these other things will be added to you( sustenance, covering, spirituality)
2) Matt 5:5--Happy are the meek for they will inherit the EARTH( land)-- even the psalmist knew that truth-Psalm 37:9-11,29)
3) The Lords prayer-- Hallowed be thy( Father) name-YHVH(Jehovah)
4) Jesus teaches--he has a God, his Father--so does Paul-2Cor 1:3, 1Cor 8:6, 1Cor 15:24-28)--Peter at 1Peter 1:3-- John at Rev 1:6
5) John 17_1-6,26-- Jesus clearly teaches here--The one who sent him= Father( John 5:30) is THE ONLY TRUE GOD--verse 6= YHVH(Jehovah) 26= YHVH(Jehovah)
6) making this the bottom line reality of a true followers day= John 4:22-24

No. Jesus is God; And the Trinity is true.

For the Bible teaches that there is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4) (1 Timothy 2:5) (Isaiah 45:5).

Yet, the Bible also teaches that there are distinctions within the Godhead or that there is a plural nature to God.

Here are a couple of quick points:

#1. The word Elohim (אֱלֹהִ֔ים) is both a singular and a plural noun.
#2. God refers to Himself in plural form (Genesis 1:26) (Genesis 3:22) (Genesis 11:7) (Isaiah 6:8).
#3. Plurality of God in New Testament (Matthew 28:19) (2 Corinthians 13:14) (John 14:16-20).
#4. Introductions to both the Son & Holy Spirit (Daniel 7:9,10,13,14) (John 14:16)
#5. Different persons of Godhead appear at one time (Luke 3:21-22)
#6. Distinctions of Wills (Luke 22:42).
#7. Conversations Between the Godhead (Psalm 2:1-12) (Psalm 45:6-7) (Psalm 110:1) (Matthew 11:27) (John 17:24).

However, if anyone here is in doubt that Jesus is God Almighty, here is some Scripture that declares that Jesus is God and that He is the Almighty.

Here is a great article on a list of verses that tell us this.
(See #45 and other numbers below).

I must say after reading your post #126 I had to go back and find your first post on this topic and having read several of your first few responses to other post I now have a better understanding where you are coming from and what our differences are on this topic of faith alone and eternal security which to me go hand in hand. I see that the main issue on this topic is that you believe a person is saved by grace through faith for what you call "Initial Salvation" (Justification). And as many believe and I also, salvation if a one time eternal state, and justification, the legal aspect so to speak is what declares one righteous in Jesus by faith whereby the person is born again, born from above, regenerated. There cannot be but one regeneration per person, no one can or could get lost and then regenerated again, because that is what Hebrews 6 says it would be impossible to renew that person again who tramples under foot the blood of Jesus Christ. Impossible does mean impossible. And Paul would not have said in Phil 1:6 he was fully persuaded that He who began a good work in Him would perform unto the day of redemption. He said that because he wrote Eph 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. So either this passage is a lie or having trusted after hearing the word of truth the believer is sealed with the Holy Spirit as the guarantee of their inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession. And we both know the scriptures do not lie. And no where does one scripture nullify the truth taught somewhere else in the word of God. There are exceptions but no contradictions. Kings were given the spirit of administration in the OT such as Saul and that gift was taken away, but that was not losing salvation that he never had nor does it say that. The Lord spoke through a donkey once but the donkey wasn't saved was it? Explained this passage in Ephesian's how one can be sealed with eternal life and lose it if it is unto the day of redemption and how can eternal life be temporary. One could never know they were eternally saved if that was the case. Eternal means eternal, I and many people do not have trouble believing that the author or our salvation who started our salvation is able to keep it to the end, Heb 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen Heb 11:1. Some people keep saying that those who believe we are saved by faith alone do not believe in putting of the deeds of the flesh and walking in the Spirit, which I have always stated, but surely do not believe that salvation is received by grace through faith, and then is kept by any act or acts of my own, nor that one can habitually live in the flesh could have ever been saved to begin with, 1John2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. I believe you quoted these verses in a post John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Look in an interlinear study bible and see that Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him is in the perfect tense, and here is the illustration for that tense; Jesus said on the cross it is finished, it never has to be repeated. Just as if you knew someone from childhood and saw them 50 years later you would still know them, the same perfect tense in English, an action happening in the past that never has to be repeated. That is saving faith and it will abide in the sealed believer, they will never fall away because they are sealed and there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. But I am not going to keep repeated the same things over and over, at some point we will have to agree to disagree, each tub sits on its own bottom is my favorite saying about this.

I recently made a topic about how we are saved by faith and this was brought up in another thread and I thought that it would be interesting to discuss in a separate thread. 1 Cor 6:9-10 reads:

"Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Now does this teach that we are not saved by our faith? Or that there are conditions to our faith? We must not be sexually immoral, commit idolatry, adultry (Which is a difficult one Jesus said that to even look at a woman in lust is adultery), Homosexual, a thief, a drunk, or swindlers? Not to disagree with Paul but, I thought that the law was covered by love in the NC? Or is these verses teaching that a true faith would not exude these kinds of things? Just like a true faith would show works and a love for God and others? I also notice in the next verse it says

"And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

Does that mean that people who were washed and baptized by the Holy Spirit that 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 doesn't even apply to them?

Discuss.
Jesus is the way to the Father and no one enters the kingdom of God except by Him. Jesus is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Is that Spirit received by following the law or by faith in Jesus? A change of heart or repentance is part of the salvation process as was with Zacchaeus a chief tax collector in whom Jesus stated was a sign of true salvation. It takes Gods Holy Spirit to convict and change a person or lead a person to Jesus. As no one comes to the Son unless the Father enables them. I believe anyone who continue to sins has never known the Lord. By their fruit you will recognize them. A good tree does bare bad fruit. So the sexual immoral will not enter the kingdom of God. Don't get me wrong I am free will. Those that are willing to listen and learn from the Father go to the Son. Jesus forgave the women caught in adultery and informed her to sin no more or leave her life of sin. The forgiveness was by the grace and mercy and LOVE of God not by following rules and regulations and infact she broke the law that would have condemned her. Jesus offered the woman at the well living water even though He knew she had five husbands and the man she was living with at that time wasn't her husband. SO Gods grace is greater than mans sinful nature. It is written the Spirt given helps us in are weaknesses. As Jesus stated anyone who sins is a slave to sin unless the Son sets them free and if the Son sets them free they shall be free indeed. No slave has a permanent place in a family but a Son remains forever.

The love of God is greater than the sin of mankind.

I don't know if this is your understanding too, but I believe that Jason believes that we are justified in a moment by Christ but it doesn't stick because the first time we sin, that justification is gone, out the window and we have to earn our salvation after loosing that initial justification.

I think that's how he puts the works aspect into it.

I must say that he and I would surely disagree on the topic of this original post. Saved by grace alone by faith and perfection in our walk. But I do believe this, we may have a difference in our understanding, and after applying Rom 10:8-10 and believing on the essentials of salvation, I believe one may not fully have come to knowledge of all the truths and applications of the scriptures, but they are still saved and hopefully we will all come to a more complete understanding of the word of God. I do like his passion, and as I said to him in one of my post, he will make a wonderful witness when he comes to a better understanding of the topic. I imagine he would hope that I would come to a better knowledge of the topic. Most people cannot defend their beliefs, that is easier changed in one who has convictions than in one who can take either path because they can't defend their position. Have a great day.

I wish he would attend a Bible church and get under the teaching of a good pastor, not be self taught. That's where I think he errors and stays in error rather than learning and growing.

Yes repented sin is forgiven( acts 3:19) Certain teachers tell ones that Jesus covered all their sins--that is not truth if they do not repent( stop doing the sin)--1Cor 6:9-11 is clear on what real repentence is= That is what some of you were( past tense--not present tense)--though one could slip, but then its important to stand back up and NEVER practice a sin.
Paul was clear--Jesus sacrifice does not cover any who practice sin ( Heb 10:26)--or willfull sin.

If what you say is true, tell me if this is the true God in Ex 3:6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God. And in the Strong's word meaning #0430 its says it is in the plural on each time God is used in the verse, and the same word is used too many times for me to count in the OT.

While most of what you say I agree with, but not that His blood was not sufficient enough to cover all our sins and the sins of the world. His sacrifice took the punishment for all our sins, Heb 10:14 for by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit at thej new birth, once for all time unto the day of redemption. Just because one does not believe that does not make it void. And Rom 8:28 through the rest of that chapter states that nothing shall separated us from the love of God. And nothing means nothing, even though that is not a license to sin and many will say to Him Lord, Lord and you know the rest will not be heaven not because they gave up, or lost their salvation, its because like He said, I never knew you, Matt 7:21-23

100% fact of the Hebrew language=
Elohim= NEVER plural when used for the true living God. Only for false gods.
I am that I am = error in trinity translations--I will be what I will be is correct in the Hebrew language translated.

the trinity scholars know these 2 facts, yet will do 0 about truth vs mistranslating.

Truth from Jesus, the Messiah= John 20:17, Rev 3:12--- How does God have a God?

"Jesus saith unto her,
"Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.""
(John 20:17).

Is Jesus (Who is God) really saying He has a God?
In other words, does God have a God?

Well, in the beginning of the gospel of John, it says this...

John 1:1-2 KJV - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH God, and the Word WAS God. The same was in the beginning with God."

In other words, John 20:17 is speaking in a similar way as John 1:1. The Word (Jesus - who is God) was with God the Father.

So when Jesus says... "I ascend unto... my God..." He is acknowledging that He is ascending to the Father who is God in essence in being (as a part of the plurality of the Godhead).

Yet, how can God have a God? Doesn't that imply a possession?
Yes, but Jesus says elsewhere, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30).
Also, when Jesus uses the word "my" in the words "my God" He is also referring to whom He always obeys, too (Sort of like how a loyal servant always obeys His ruling King).

For Jesus says elsewhere, "... for I do always those things that please him." (John 8:29).
Also, when Jesus claimed to be God, and the Pharisees wanted to kill him for it, Jesus quoted Old Testament Scripture that says, "ye are gods." (i.e. gods = kings) as a way of protecting His mission in going to the cross (John 10:34).
